It was the start of a new college week, and Lizzie and I were starving. We usually skipped breakfast because we weren't on good terms, but there was no reason to do so now. We walked into the cafeteria and realized that we were categorized into two groups, each of which despised the other.
I spotted Howie giving me the WTF look and tried to avoid her eyes.
"I suppose we'll see each other later," I said to Lizzie as we ordered our breakfast and parted ways. I sat down with Howie and the others in my normal seat, lowering my head.
Howie didn't say anything to me or raise her eyes like she always does when she sees me, and Elina didn't even look me in the eyes, you know, the usual expression her twin gives, and that's when I realized she and Kil actually looked identical, she was just the female version of him.
Toby gave me a disappointed frown before continuing to eat. Kil gave me a sidelong glance and simpered at me, telling me to believe he despised me, and it was then that I saw Iago and Jake were not present, as they had been the day before.
"Howie, where are the others?" I asked quietly, clearing my throat.
In anger, she jabbed her steak with her fork and moved her eyes to me, saying, "I should be asking you that. I don't want to talk to you today, so please leave me alone."
I was taken aback by what she said, and I was confused since nothing she said made sense to me.
"Is everything okay?" I questioned again, feigning a smile, "You all seem upset with me today, what's the matter?"
"Do you really want to know why we're like this to you?" yelled Elina. She hissed at me, "It's because you betrayed us by hanging out with Lizzie and her clique."
"I didn't ditch you, I wasn't even planning to drink alcohol, but she was sober and she needed someone to get her through it," I tried to explain.
"Wow, so you had to left us to do that? "Even if what you claimed was true, why did all this bullshit happen?" snarled Howie.
At the time, I was baffled because I didn't really know what they were saying. "What are you talking about?" I asked, but they didn't respond and stood up to leave.
"I really want to believe you, Jess, but I guess we were never meant to be friends," Howie remarked, leaving me alone at the table.
I couldn't force myself to eat my breakfast, even though I was hungry. I got up and left for Psychology class as well. And now I'm back to being the crazy Jessie, as I've lost the new friends I thought would stick by my side forever.
"Iago Rodriguez, Alan Wolfe, Jessica Hills, report to the Associate dean office for misconduct right now?" shrieked a feminine voice over the campus's miniature speakers.
My heart pounded as I pondered what had happened during the Saturday party to make things so awful.
I've gotten myself into a huge problem that I have no memory of having caused. Everyone's attention was drawn to me, including the lecturer. I shoved my books into my backpack, and rose up to leave, my face hidden in my combed lengthy blonde hair. I gave Howie a brief glance, and she turned her face away from me, and I left the classroom and proceeded towards the dean's office, ignoring all the eyes fixated on me.
Another hand had already touched the door's handle as I was going to open it. I stared at the hand bearer and saw Iago opening the dean's office with a bandage on the left side of his brow. I was baffled when I saw his injured brow and wondered if it was related to the incident on Saturday. Or did I injure him on the brow!?
IAGO'S POV
“Mr. Iago Rodriguez, what was the taunt you pulled off on Saturday. You are here on scholarship, and you should treat it as such. Any little mistake you make will ruin it all, your mum has done a lot for you and is getting into a fight a way of returning all her hard work on you?...", Dean William yelled, his fists pounding on his desk.
"I'm sorry, sir," I murmured, lowering my head and wrinkled my brows.
"You're sorry?" he huffed and yelled once again, "I don't think you're sorry Iago, I don't know what to do with you anymore."
"You are new here and you thought of getting into a fight with them, what were you thinking?" he gasped loudly as he moved his eyes to Jess, who appeared to be completely clueless as she sat next to me.
"I don't recall what occurred at the party," Jess, whose face was hidden in her blonde hair, eventually glanced up. "I'm deeply sorry if I caused anyone any harm; I didn't mean it. It's all my fault, so any penalty you wish to inflict on them should be inflicted on me instead, and I'll gladly accept it."
Why does she think it's all her fault? I've never met somebody so naive and clueless, which may be why I dislike her. This mess was entirely Alan Wolfe's fault, and he isn't even present to face the dean.
"I'm very busy right now, so I'll refer you to the counseling panel; they'll be the ones to decide your punishment, and just keep in mind that once they refer you to the disciplinary team, you're done for." So get your butts off my chairs and over to their office right now," he roared as we exited his office.
As we walked out of his office, she paused and turned to face me, saying, "Iago, I don't remember anything, but all I can say is that I'm extremely sorry. I'm not sure why I'm apologizing, but I feel obligated to do it to you."
I scowled at her because I didn't know what to say and walked away; I wasn't in the mood to talk to anybody at time.
