Chapter 39

I sat behind the counter next to Darin as I observed him interact with the customers, he helped them with a smile on his face, contrary to most convenience store clerks. He addressed and talked to them all like it was his job, and he was enthusiastic about it. My interest was piqued, when I saw a girl dressed in shabby clothing walk in. She looked like she was about the same age as Darin. Her clothes were old and filled with dirt, she looked like she hadn’t had a good shower in a long time. Her eyes looked puffy and she had black rings around them as well , her hair looked like it hadn’t seen a brush in a while. She held a baby in her arms in a dirty old tattered blanket , the baby began to wail loudly.
