Chapter 2. The birthday joke
In the study were I was most of the time, being an alpha of a pack comes with great responsibility and did I mention stress, yeah, lots and lots of stress. Meeting here and there sighing of contracts, visiting of sites, checking of the family account, pressure of getting a mate. It was all on me. Sometimes I wished I had an older brother who I could just push all this responsibilities to but sadly I am the older brother.
Sliver Moon pack was a big part of the Sherwood Forest. As werewolves we tend to keep ourselves hidden because of our second nature which could be violent and also for our own safety. Knowing humans we would become lab rats for their experiments. But that doesn't mean we don't go out to the outside world. Infact we have companies and organisation set up in the cities. To humans sliver moon pack Is just another community leaving together.
Silver Moon pack has a population of over three thousands wolves, every Wolf belongs to a section that is headed by a chief, who reports directly to the alpha.
For generations My family, the Silvers has served as the leader of the pack and I am about to take upon that role. Apart from humans, there are other creatures we keep our guards up for, witches, Vampires, elves and even our fellow wolves from different packs seeking dominance. Although we have learned to respect each other's race some just don't like the idea of peace.
My family has contributed to the growth of this forest for decades
These gorgeous woodlands aren't only home to magical legends, of course; they also happen to be perfect spots for lengthy strolls and all manner of adrenaline-pumping activities, and the best of the best manage to retain a unique atmosphere all the while. The Sherwood forests are magical no matter where you stand on misty walks and hobbits.
And, to be blunt, these are the best forests to be found in the United Kingdom. Everywhere from the wilds of Scotland down to woods hugging the outer edges of London and beyond is represented here. The emotional healing powers of a hearty stroll surrounded by trees have long been touted, and it doesn't get much more comforting than the finest forests the UK has to offer.
I checked my wrist watch and it was 3:45pm I guess the guest should be arriving soon. Rounding up with the files on my desk, I hear a knock on the door.
"Sweetie, our guest are here, they are in the living room" mum said with a small smile that looked rather sad, before I could react, it vanished, had I imagined it...?
"I'll be right out"
"It's been a while Sliver, I see you've gotten a lot more shabby" A six foot man, with get black hair, in a buttoned up grey shirt and black Pants, in his late forties said with a smile while shaking my father's hand
"Well you don't look too bad yourself, Patrick Rivers" My father says with a huge grin on his face.
Patrick Rivers, I have heard that name from my father's old stories, He is an old Friend of father, right from their youth days, I remember meeting him when I was about the age seven, I think he had a kid I'm not really sure if it was a boy or girl.
"It's Good to see you again Lad" He said coming towards me.
"It's been what....? 20 years?" He said in a small smile, while pulling out his hands out for a hand shake.
"Twenty-one actually" I said returning his smile and handshake. At that moment I could feel the intense, intimidating grip he had on my hands, I heard he was the third in command after the Alpha and Beta of the blue moon pack. But why was he trying to be intimidating with me? Business? Or maybe he thought I was still a kid when handling business matters. Smirking I equally show him dominance of my alpha blood.
"Ohh that's right, today makes it twenty-one years, happy birthday" he said.
"Thank you sir"
"Mercy you look beautiful as usual"
"As do you Ava" my mum and his wife exchange pleasantries.
"Ma'm" I say with a nod
"Hello Charles" she replies with a warm smile, She has straight blonde hair, blue eyes, and is an inch or maybe two inches taller than my mum.
"I don't think you have met my daughter" she says as she calls a young lady who happened to be conversing with my sister Amelia.
"Olivia" she calls.
And a lady in her early twenties probably the same age as Amelia, she has jet black wavy hair and really pretty blue eyes.
"Hello nice to meet you" she said, her eyes barely meeting my gaze.
She is nervous.
"Hello, you are welcome, please make yourself comfortable" I said sounding as hospitable as possible.
We were now having dinner,
I still didn't have a clue about this meeting, everyone just seemed to be wiredly quiet for some reason, well everyone except for Emma who just kept interrogating Olivia.
Watching everyone intensely, from my mum to my Sis Amelia and then to my father, non of them met my eyes, it was like they knew something I didn't because they were all acting strange including our guest, it was like there was something on everyone's mind waiting to explode.
"Ahem.... So Chris I hear you opened a new factory" Patrick said breaking the silence.
"Yes, but It was actually all Charles's idea, so he is running it and I must say he is doing a fantastic job" my father boosted
And I gave him an acknowledging smile.
"That's wonderful, well I expected nothing less from my future son-in-law" he said making me completely choke on my food, I had to gulp down a whole glass of water to subside the chocking.
Did he just say "son in-law"
Looking at my family to make sure I had heard wrongly. But the faces I saw were more like anticipating and pleading eyes. What was going on here!
I looked at Emma but she was just as shocked as I was.
"I'm sorry but I don't seem to understand what you mean, Sir Patrick" I said trying as much as possible to keep my tone calm.
"From what I've heard you haven't found your mate, and your pack needs a future female head" he said.
"Anyway Your father reach out to me and we agreed for you and my daughter Olivia to tie the knot seeing as she also doesn't have a mate" he said like he was discussing the weather.
For the first time today I felt my Wolf surface, he is never aggressive except when needed But since we hadn't found our mate he has been rather quiet. But loses it at the slightest provocation. He was like a wounded puppy.
And so hearing that his mate was going to be replaced was like hearing his territory was being attacked.
I jerked up from my seat trying as much as possible to keep my wolf under control, I'm sure my eyes were already blazing gold because everyone was looking agitated.
"Mum! Dad! Study Now!!!!" I bellowed and stormed out.
This was one hell of a birthday joke!
