The Winner

The silver car zoomed past the intersection, closely followed by the blue car. A triumphant and proud smile sat on Lucian's face, knowing he had leading. On the contrary, Valerie wore on apathetic expression, appearing unfazed.

Compared to Lucian's careless and reckless driving, Valerie drove in a rather calm and calculated manner.

Lucian had to admit that Valerie had the skills, but when compared to him, she was indeed lacking. The finish line was only few meters away, and at the easy victory, he took his head out of the car's window.

Winking at Valerie, he waved his free hand and voiced out, "Then, I will be going off first."

However, that joy hardly lasted. The very next second Valerie sped up, and before he could react, he felt a violent hit being delivered to his car. Although that was not enough to injure him, that did distract him and cause him to lose control.

There was only one person who could do this. Before he could give Valerie a piece of his mind, she attacked his car again. It was precise to the extent he barely received any hurt yet it made him fall back.

Holding back the curses that were threatening to spill put from his lips, he hurriedly attempted to catch up with her. His jaws clenched tightly.

Valerie was too good at this! She made it so that he would lower his guard before making her moves. And she even cheated. He felt baffled and aggravated.

The cars stopped once they reached the finish line. Opening the car's door, Valerie was about to step out when Lucian rushed towards her and grabbed her arm, pinning her against the car. Surprise crossed through Valerie's eyes for split of a second.

"Ms. Valerie, you are truly impressive. Who would have thought you will have these tricks up your sleeve?" He voiced out sarcastically through his gritted teeth.

He wasted his precious time for no absolutely no reason!

"There were no rules," Valerie expressed.

"What?"

"There were no rules that I couldn't attack your car, and aren't you uninjured?"

"I am uninjured? How are you so sure about it? Could it be that Ms. Valerie is used to resorting to such dirty and pathetic methods for winning?" He sneered.

Valerie ignored the stab that her heart felt.

"That's because I would never harm you," Valerie honestly said. At least she would try to never.

Lucian stared at Valerie silently for a second before bursting out into laughter. Derision was present in his eyes as he voiced out, "Never harm me? Are you so sure about it, Ms. Valerie? Can't you see that it's your mere presence that is harmful to me?"

Regardless of what was stirred up inside her chest from his cruel words, Valerie didn't let that show on her face and stated, "Don't back away like a coward."

Joseph and Ethan arrived at the scene. Upon noticing how tense the situation was between them, they didn't dare to interfere.

Running his hand through his hair, Lucian said, "Say, what did you need so badly that you set me up like this?"

Valerie then enunciated, "Let me follow you."

He raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to clarify.

"As your assistant for a day," She added.

"My what?"

°°°

Lucian stared at Valerie skeptically, trying to figure out what her intention was behind this. As a serious person, Valerie never wasted her time, and having a sense of superiority, it sounded crazy for her to take orders from someone she considered so lowly.

The corner of his lips twitched when he saw Valerie stand out of his apartment early in the morning. He had to admit that he was given quite a shock. Starting the day by seeing Valerie first did sound dread to her.

"I am going to misunderstand if you are going to show up here so early in the morning," he commented, leaning his hand against the door frame and resting his hand on it. The corner of his lips were slightly curved up.

Valerie's heart wasn't ready for the temptation standing before her. Because of just waking up, his voice was hoarse and those hair of his were messy. The top few buttons of the shirt he wore was undone, revealing his chest somewhat. The languidness, along with that teasing expression, made him appear sensual in Valerie's eyes.

Although her face was calm, her red ears betrayed her. Fortunately for her, her hair covered them.

"It's seven in the morning. Not early. You should've woken up earlier for exercising. How unhealthy."
