Wedding cake

"I really haven't thought about it,"Lexi said, we haven't talked about how many children we would like to have, but I do know I would like more then one ."

A ping sound came over Alex's phone he peers over at his mother with a smirk "Mother would you like to help us get started having all these grandchildren?"

Taken aback by what he just said,her face flushed red ,little appearance she muttered."Alexander what are you talking about?"

"We need to pick flavors from our wedding cake mother, what were you thinking?" He grinned

"After all the things I have heard from you today Alexander, I'm not really sure what I was expecting from you next.But yes I would love to help you pick flavors for your wedding cake." She said placing her hand on her chest.

A maid wheeled in a cart with the cake samples on it. Beside each slice of cake the name of the flavors was printed on a card.

Being a bit overwhelmed Lexi sighed "Alex how are we going to pick just five flavors from all this cake "

"Sweetheart we have help mother and Jackson are here." He reminded

The Queen mother recognized the stressful situation she patted Lexi's shoulder "I have a wonderful Idea ,first you and Alexander pick the top layer together because that is the layer you will freeze for your first year anniversary."

"Mother what are we supposed to do with year old frozen cake?" Alex, scrunched his face at the thought of eating year old cake.

"Eat it with your anniversary dinner Alexander, what else would you do with it."

He shook his head, "We can just have another cake made."

"No you can't it's tradition to freeze the top layer of your cake for your first year anniversary. It symbolizes good luck and prosperity."She explained, patting Lexi's hand "Princess Alexis make him eat the cake on your anniversary."

Bringing his hand up to her lips she kissed the back of it letting her breath linger on his skin before bringing her head up gazing into his eyes ."we need to do anything that will bring us good luck." She said in a soft sweet voice.

Mother Sophia brought her hand together in front of her chest clapping them together. "Now that will only leave nineteen flavors . She chirped ."You are having a summer wedding so let's go through the flavors and eliminate the fall and winter flavors. Now Alexander you and Princess Alexis go ahead and pick your top layer ."

Alex didn't want to spend all night tasting cake , he looked at all the cards placed in front of the cake slices , his lips curled up. He reached for a slice on the right side of the cart . He cut off a small piece placing it in Lexi's mouth .

"Sweetheart this is going to be our top layer ,champagne cake with strawberry butter cream frosting. On our first Anniversary we should also celebrate our first date. Maybe if it's just cake you want get sick and pass out "

"Turning red , she hummed "it's really good, now we only have four layers left."

Taking the slice of champagne cake Alex set on the buffet table away from the rest of the cake.

"Princess Alexis let's start eliminating the fall and winter flavors. we can eliminate pumpkin spice ,cranberry, and spiced pear"

Mother Sophia suggested taking those slices and sitting them on the dining room table . Now Princess you pick some that typically reminds you of a crisp fall days or Christmas"

Tugging her brows together in though she reached over to the cart and pulled off ,rum cake, carrot cake, cranberry orange cake, spiced apple cake, and butter pecan cake. She handed those slices to Alex to sit on the dining room table.

Looking down at the cart with only a few slices of cake left ,she smiled. "That did help a lot now does anyone else have a good idea."

Now everyone is looking at the eleven cakes slices on the cart.

"Lexi I think the bottom layer should be something simple because a lot of different foods will be served and you don't want something flowery or fruity ,maybe the plan vanilla because that's what people are typically expecting from wedding cake. Jackson suggested

Lexi nodded "that's a great idea Jackson , I was thinking the same thing .." she agreed handing the vanilla cake with butter cream frosting to Jackson to set on the buffet table beside the champagne cake.

"Your Majesty pick a flavor you like "

"Princess Alexis I do wish you would call me Mother ,I have always wanted a daughter." She smiled ,as she reached out for Lexi's hand .

She grinned, "Only if you call me Lexi, that's what all my family calls me."

"I would love to call you Lexi." Mother Sophia said, Reaching over to the cart picking up one of the cake slices "we wouldn't want to neglect the chocolate lovers at the wedding so how about red velvet cake for your second layer."

Lexi nodded with a smile, Mother Sophia picked up the red velvet cake and moved it to the buffet table.

Lexi is now beaming most of the cake slices have been eliminated and they have chosen three layers for the cake.

"With everyone thinking together this is going smoothly."

Glaring at the cake left on the cart . She nibbled on her bottom lip a little reaching her hand out she pulled another slice of cake moving it to the buffet table .

"I don't think we should neglect the fruit lovers either I'm thinking white chocolate raspberry with the white chocolate butter cream frosting. Now Alex it's your turn again "

"Sweetheart you made this easy for me . This layer will sit right under the champagne cake and as you know that's my specialty pairing food with alcohol ."He chuckled ,"The lavender lemon cake with lemon butter cream frosting, two wonderful flavors with champagne."

Lexi pick up the cake slice and moved it to the buffet table.

"Now let's put them in my phone so I can send them to Pam she will take care of the rest now sweetheart tell me what we have decided."

Lexi walked to the buffet table reading the cards on the cake slices as Alex typed his text to Pam Green.

bottom layer vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream frosting.

Second layer red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

Third layer white chocolate raspberry cake with white chocolate butter cream frosting.

Forth layer lavender lemon cake with lemon butter cream frosting.

Top layer champagne cake with strawberry butter cream frosting."

With two dozen cupcakes from each flavor.

Mother Sophia glanced around the table noticing all the cake they had picked was for the wedding cake.

"Alexander you need a grooms cake."

"Pam text me this afternoon and ask me to pick a flavor for my grooms cake ."She frantically said ,thinking they had forgotten or perhaps didn't even know that they needed one.

"I have already spoken to chef Mark and he is making me that honey whiskey cake that I like .Alex explained , "Chef Mark told me he would put the coat of arms on it and make twenty four cupcakes."

" Have you planned your menu yet?" Mother Sophia ask.

"Pam is going to text me with three different sample menus so we can choose one. Mother we spent a couple of hours in Pam's office today making wedding plans , you know how efficient Pam is . That's the most time I've ever talked to Pam about planning an event. I'm sure everything will be perfect .So let's just relax and have some champagne to celebrate." Alex smiled as he picked up his phone scrolling to kitchen service and ordered a bottle of champagne.

Lexi peers up at him , begging "Alex can I have a cola?"

Leaning over and whispers i" sweetheart you can have a cola, but I want you to drink one glass of champagne too .We will be going to bed soon and it will help you relax."

Glancing over towards Mother Sophia he quickly changed the subject to gather more information about the creepy man that attacked Lexi ."Mother is Lady Elizabeth married?"

"She's a widow , her husband passed away about ten years ago."

Alex nodded understanding the reason an old widow woman from a aristocratic family might not want any one to recognize her in a strip joint . But he still couldn't rule out the possibility of a contract hit.

Before Alex could ask anyone questions the maid brought in the bottle of champagne and a big plate of strawberries.

Alex picked up a strawberry and put I front of Lexi's mouth she glared at the strawberry and glared him like he was trying to poison her.

" Just one sweetheart"

Opening her mouth she took a bite of the juicy bite strawberry chewing it grimly.

Alex leaned down whispering"that's all darling just one little bite , I can't have you afraid of strawberries and champagne now just sip your champagne, he coaxed her "that's only glass I want you to drink."

Turning his attention back to his mother ,he continued to ask questions about her friends "Mother about how long ago was it when you first saw Lady Elizabeth with that man?

" Alexander I believe it was last year at the spring fashion show ." She turns to look at Lexi smiling " next weekend is the fall fashion show maybe Alexander will be a doll and take us."

"Oh, Alex can we go?"

"Would you like that sweetheart?

"Oh yes! Please Alex let's go"

" Mother I guess we will be meeting you at the fashion show next weekend." Alex groaned.

Mother Sophia and Lexi chatted about the upcoming fashion show, while Alex and Jackson made plans for the camping trip.

After about a hour ,Alex stood up

reaching out for Lexi's hand "come with me sweetheart you need to get some rest. "He turned to Jackson, politely asking "can you see mother to her car ?"

Alex and Lexi said their good byes. they both hugged Mother Sophia and Walked out of the dining room . Alex wrapped his arm around her waist guiding her to the grand staircase.

Nothing she didn't stagger or stumble Alex leaned over and placed a tinder kiss on her cheek. He grinned "see sweetheart one glass of champagne is fine for you and we will have so much to celebrate in our life time. Each time I hold your hand I feel like celebrating."

The King of walk and talk slipped his hand down to her hip as they walked down the long hallway .

She peek through her long eyelashes teasing him "I'm so glad your mother worked so hard when you were a child making you the perfect little Princess Charming."

"Do you think I'm trying to charm you sweetheart?"

She twisting her hair around her finger and batted her eyes toying with him.

"I do"

"And you would be right ." He agreed as he opened the door and pulled her inside.
