Deryn tried to process the system remarks from his character sheet.

"So during the fight, I pushed myself beyond my normal limits which increased two of my attributes, is my understanding correct system".

< CORRECT HOST >

" The mana crystal I found unlocked the relevant knowledge of the previously locked intelligence description, right system? ".

< CORRECT AGAIN HOST >

" My initial thought was only by reading books or getting taught by others will I gather the necessary information to unlock the descriptions. It seems specific items I find can also do the same though".

< YES. HOST BE ADVISED, NOT EVERY ITEM FOUND WILL UNLOCK INFORMATION >

He nods before taking the skinning knife and the half bottle of water out of his inventory. Drinking the water in just a few gulps he walked towards the dead boar. Touching the boar with the skinning knife released motes of light once more before the familiar ding echoed in his mind.

————————————————————————————————————————————< HOST HAS GATHERED ALL REQUIRED MATERIALS TO BUILD BLUEPRINT: DOOMSDAY ADVENT SURVIVAL SHELTER, SUGGESTS HOST FINDS A GOOD LOCATION BEFORE BUILDING THE SHELTER >

He climbed to his feet and started walking back towards the grassland where the forest began to thin. Remembering that at the beginning of where he was teleported in there was a rather large cluster of hills, which looked like it could potentially be an ideal location for him to set up his shelter.

A little over 10 minutes later he could see it in the distance. Having a proper look at it now enabled him to realize that just like the oversized trees which made up the forest behind him, the cluster of hills in fact was more of a small mountain formation. Stretching up so far he had to crane his neck back, the 5 'hills' formed a sort of bowl shape valley.

The Valley wasn't large and was built like an oddly shaped pentagon. The walls of the hills are steeply inclined from the inside of the basin needing a climbing rope or a huge ladder to get to the top of the hill from inside the valley.

The valley was the perfect place to build a base, other than there didn't seem to be any large water sources around.

Walking directly through the grassy valley Deryn had an idea.

" System is it possible for me to build my shelter into the side of the hill? Like with one wall completely exposed but the rest of the shelter under the hill and if yes, how will that work with the underground floor?".

< SYSTEM SUGGESTS THE HOST BUILDS THE BLUEPRINT AND SEES FOR HIMSELF. ONCE THE BLUEPRINT IS BUILT HOLD THE SHELTER CORE IN HAND TO SEE AN OUTLINE OF THE BUILD >

"Build the doomsday advent survival shelter blueprint"

< CONSUMED 100 WOOD / 50 STONE / 8 IRON / 1 LEVEL 1 MANA CRYSTAL >

< BLUEPRINT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION… BLUEPRINT HAS BEEN COMPLETED >

Reaching into the 19th slot of his inventory he pulled out a green glowing spherical object. It looked like a glass ball that had a two-story building shown inside of it, with a green glow emulating from it.

< SHELTER CORE ( LEVEL 1), USING THIS WILL SHOW AN OUTLINE OF THE CONSTRUCTION, IF THE CONSTRUCTION TURNS GREEN IT MEANS THE LOCATION WILL ALLOW FOR IT TO BE BUILT, WILL YOU USE IT NOW: Y/N >

"Yes"

A hazy white mass escaped from the orb which quickly formed into a corporeal form of the doomsday advent survival shelter.

The floor above ground was 5m x 5m with a height of 3m. A door was located at the front of the house and another door at the back which led into a staircase to the underground floor. The underground floor was 3m x 3m with a height of 2m.

Besides the general outline of the building, there wasn't much else for him to see.

Deryn walked forward to the wall of the hills, still amazed at the fact that such a valley existed, such are the wonders of nature. He wondered briefly whether there were better places he could set up his base, like the mountains in the distance. Shaking his head he realised the location was already more than ideal and he lucked out getting it.

The corporeal form of the shelter followed him with a thought before going into the mountain. The system knows what he intended and moved the shelter to a perfect angle where the wooden walls were covered with a layer of natural stone. This meant although the shelter walls were made of only wood they had an additional stone layer surrounding them, perfect for defence should it be needed.

The white mist lit up green signalling that this was an alright location for the building to be placed.

< CONFIRM PLACEMENT: Y/N >

"Yes"

With a start the core unexpectedly rushed from his hands diving into the mountain, the natural rock parting ways like Moses and the sea. Expecting a lot of mess, Deryn was surprised that after a literal blink of an eye on his behalf it stopped. Instead there was now just a wooden door embedded into the side of the hill.

" Luckily the system pushed apart the terrain for the door or i would have no way to get through" he sighed in relief, realising he completely overlooked this point.

Waking up from this slight reverie he walked forwards in high spirits and grabbed the door handle before pushing the door.

< SYSTEM SUGGESTS HOST PULLS THE HANDLE… >

"I KNEW THAT… ahem… i knew that system I was just feeling the texture of the handle" Deryn said before his ears started to burn.

Pulling the handle this time the door swung open and Deryn walked inside. As he did so an easy on the eyes light appeared in the shelter.

" Ah, so this must be what the optional upgrade was about, the lighting for the shelter. "

< YES, HOST CAN MERELY THINK IT AND THE LIGHTING WILL TURN ON/OFF >

After trying it out a few times the light in the shelter flickered on and off before he ultimately left it on. Closing the door behind him he saw the 5m x 5m 3m high room in its plain glory.

Entirely wooden walls built with planks and a stone floor. Overhead was an iron looking pipe that led to the outside world with a glowing light hanging underneath of the iron poping in the middle of the room.

Walking towards the back door he opened it before walking downstairs. On his way down noticed the same iron pipe with a single light attached to it and the staircase and 3 walls were built of stone, while one was built of planks as it connected to the aboveground room.

Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs he pulled open the door to enter the 3m x 3m 2m high fully stone room. Paved in what seems like completely smooth stone with brick patterns.

Looking further around he was once again met with the sight of an empty room with the same light and iron pipe on the ceiling.

In this iron pipe, however, was a hole at the end of it near the back wall. Standing underneath to observe it he began to feel a gentle breeze flowing down onto his face, tickling the few day-old stubbles on his face.

" So the piping works for both the lighting and the ventilation system" Deryn realised.

< THAT IS CORRECT HOST, THE LIGHTING WORKS ON YOUR COMMAND WHILST THE VENTILATION SYSTEM IS AUTOMATIC >

" So the air travels in through here and gets pushed up the stairs into the top floor before going outside?"

"CORRECT HOST, THE LEVEL 1 VENTILATION SYSTEM IS VERY SIMPLE, UPGRADING LEVELS WILL INCREASE FUNCTIONALITY OF THIS >

" Right, thank you system".

< DING >

< HOST HAS UNLOCKED SHELTER CUSTOMISATION MENU >

Thinking of the shelter customisation menu, a blue box appeared in his vision.

There were numerous options such as a level 1 workbench which allowed him to craft basic furniture such as tables or storage shelves and layout remodelling which would allow for partitions to be built on both floors to split up the rooms into designated areas.

The one which caught his eye the most however was the level 2 shelter upgrade.

————————————————————————————————————————————

< DOOMSDAY ADVENT SURVIVAL SHELTER: LEVEL 2 UPGRADE >

DESCRIPTION: This upgrade will expand the space of the two available rooms (including any possible partitions). Above ground floor will increase to 9m x 9m (height remains unchanged at 3m), whilst the underground floor will increase to 6m x 6m with a 3m height.

MATERIALS NEEDED: wood x100 / stone x50 / iron x 10

ADDITIONAL OPTION MATERIALS NEEDED: 1x mana crystal level 1 / wood x 25 / stone x 30 / iron x 15

ADDITIONAL OPTION 1 DESCRIPTION: Water storage and plumbing level 1 (50l storage with basic plumbing throughout the base). Further upgrades will unlock bigger water storage capacity and increased plumbing areas with more pressure.

ADDITIONAL OPTION 2 DESCRIPTION: Level 1 shower unit and toilet (consumption 2.5l of water per 5 minute use / 250ml per flush). Wastewater will merely be piped outside of the base at level 1. Further upgrades will allow for the recycling of water and an increase in water usage efficiency.

RARITY: UNCOMMON (GREEN)

————————————————————————————————————————————

Deryn sat on the floor in the underground basement before collecting his thoughts. In his mind he set some short term goals for himself.

1) Set up the water collector and get it running right away.

2) Gather materials for customising his shelter and building them. The available options were a workbench and partitions/walls for the layout of inside the shelter.

3) Gather materials for building the items available in the workbench. These were storage shelves, table and chairs and a bed frame among a few others. (also while out gathering, kill more rabbits to gather fur)

"System what time is it"

< HOST, THE TIME IS 4:05 PM >

"Ok, i will start everything at half-past, system alert me when its half past 4 please".

< YES HOST >

"Open chat".

A familiar blue box appeared in his vision. It automatically opened the world chat where vast swaths of messages were being sent. Shaking his head with a sigh Deryn opened up the regional chat tab. After a few minutes of reading a particular message caught his eye".

Owlen Davids: There were 2500 people in the region chat 4 hours ago, now there is only 1932. I'm sorry to say it seems over 500 people have lost there lives in a little over 4 hours, can we get a moment of silence for our fellow humans.

With that message Deryn looked at the participant count next to the region chat window, 1931. In a little over 4 hours, 569 people have disappeared from existence. A sense of sadness overtook him. Another chat appeared after Owlen Davids.

Cerry Allen: 23% of us have died in just 4 hours. If all 7.9 billion people have been teleported over like us and an average of 23% died in these 4 hours, that means around 1.8 billion lives have been lost. After saying this i have a sudden urge to give up :'(.

Owlen Davids: Giving up wont accomplish anything.

For the first time Deryn typed in the chat.

Deryn Adams: I pay my respects for all the human lives lost. May they rest in peace.

A few seconds later and hundreds of messages came flying through each depicting there own condolences for the death toll recently discovered.

While he was reading the comments he set up the water collector he gained from the chests. He placed it in a corner on the aboveground floor.

The collector had a slot for fuel which would drop one wood in every hour. The wood would then burn and the heat from the flames would cause the moisture in the air to gather around the first bucket.

This had a hole cut out of the bottom where a stone pipe allowed for the water to drip down into the second collection bucket. At a rate of 250ml an hour, the collection bucket would become full after 10 hours of continuous use.

Almost finished he lit the first piece of wood on fire with a match.

Pleased with his work and checking off a short term goal so quickly Deryn continued to read the chat, besides the idle chatter and condolence messages he didn't find anything else of note that he should keep track of.

Immersed with reading the chat he got a small surprise when the system reminded him it was half past 4.

He emptied his inventory in the underground room beside the tools, basic resources, raw meat ( so it didn't decompose ) and some food/water.

After finishing the organisation he left the shelter keen to make progress on the two other short term goals he set for himself while there was still daylight available.

As he walked out of the shelter door he muttered "I must survive".
