Deryn arrived back at the entrance of the shelter before opening the door. The kobold followed him in wide-eyed amazement, staring at the door. Giving it a mental shove the kobold closed the door and followed Deryn.
Deryn chuckled at the kobold's gaping stare upon reaching the training room. Its tail wagging a mile a minute. It started to run in circles and Deryn smiled to himself enjoying the sight of the carefree creature for a minute before he stopped.
"I'm going to call you Kevin or Kev for short" Deryn told Kev mentally.
The kobold, now Kevin, looked up at Deryn before bowing to him as if thanking him for the name. "System is it possible Kev will be able to reply eventually?".
< YES, HOST. THE HOST JUST LACKS THE REQUIRED INFORMATION TO DO SO >
12:29 pm.
It took Deryn a little over 25 minutes to get back, 10 minutes more than it took him to get to the encampment this morning. It was to be expected though, his injuries made him want to walk slower as to not aggravate them even more. They should be fully healed in another 5 hours or so, as the system let him know that upon hp regenerating injuries slowly heal before disappearing completely at max hp.
The system did warn him though that the loss of limbs wouldn't be regenerated with his current vitality. This made him think that when his vitality is perhaps high enough, even regenerating limbs wouldn't be a problem, but as usual, the system kept silent about it, saying he needed more information.
He decided it was time to clean himself up and open up the rest of the loot. Before that, he gave a piece of raw meat to Kev. While he was eating it Deryn ordered him to go outside and bring resources back to the shelter, handing it the axe and the shovel whilst Deryn was getting sorted. He made sure to tell Kev not to wander too far and to come back if it got into any trouble.
Kevin nodded at Deryn, putting its spear on its back before running out with an axe in hand, well in Kevin's case, a paw.
Deryn went to the bathroom with a set of the basic combat outfit. Having a 5-minute shower was a luxury, but he needed it after the battle he went through. It was a shame though. The water was so cold that he gave up after 3 minutes, but on the bright side, it saved him around a litre of water.
Putting on the new basic combat outfit, he found it was a perfect fit. Loose enough that it didn't restrict his movements but tight enough where it wouldn't get in the way during combat and day to day activities.
He felt refreshed and started to eat his daily mid-day rations. His mind started to wander back to the battles that he went through. The first two kobolds he killed was easy enough thanks to his plan of luring them with meat and the first archer was killed partly due to luck but a testament to his skill.
His biggest mistake he found was relaxing too early after a battle. If he just kept his wits about him he could have found there was another kobold archer and dealt with the situation in a much better way. He kicked himself mentally, it was such a basic mistake but at the time it slipped his mind completely.
< HOST. THIS IS A VALUABLE LESSON THAT YOU WON'T SOON FORGET >
"Yeah... I don't ever want to experience pain like that again. I didn't feel in control of my body at all, it was only when that other arrow came whizzing by that I recognised the danger and reacted accordingly. Still, it made me feel weak". he admitted to the system.
< THAT'S BECAUSE THE HOST IS WEAK. BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. SURVIVING DANGERS WILL ALLOW THE HOST TO GROW PAST OLD LIMITATIONS AND SET NEW LIMITS WHICH MUST BE OVERCOME ONCE MORE. THAT IS THE CYCLE OF SURVIVAL >
Insulted at first Deryn was about to snap at the system before he heard the second part of what it said. He contemplated the words it said, choosing to ignore the first bit. The more he thought about it the more his blood began to boil and he understood that he had begun to like the thrill of battle, although he had his fair share of weaknesses to face.
"Thank you system" was all that needed to be said.
Deryn walked towards the training hall ready to open the 12 chests he had on him, a visible spring in his step as he wondered what exactly will he get. Sitting on the bench he decided to open all but the kobold chests in his inventory before leaving the two rare chests till last.

Deryn was still shocked. He opened up his inventory and saw the two Dark blue items sitting there. Dragging his mind onto the first one a box appeared in his mind.

He continued to rush until he was near the tree line of the forest before stopping after one last glance of his stats. He couldn't stop grinning, he had never felt so strong as he did right this very moment.
Raising his right hand he uttered "Fireball". His hand seemed to heat up as the mana points left his body, gathering towards the direction in front of his hand. A few seconds later a fireball was hovering in front of his hand. It was the size of an adult males fist burning fiercely while hovering in front of him.
With a thought it shot directly into the tree 10m away from Deryn position.
*BANG*
It sounded like a grenade had gone off and Deryn was momentarily dazed before looking at the carnage in front of him. Half of the tree had directly been blasted away while the remaining half was scorched black with embers beginning to gather before turning ablaze.
He rushed forwards casting the water ball spell, and a ball of water, the same size as his headshot forwards upon command and landed on the same place the fireball did. With a huge hiss and mist spraying from the point of contact, the fire began to subside. Deryn cast another water ball to completely douse the flames before sighing in relief.
The last thing he wanted to do was create a forest fire so near his home.
The tree was in a sorry state. Completely drenched and half of it gone, it looked like it was on its last legs. He cast the wind blade before shooting it at the tree. He noticed a pattern as the wind blade flew forward. So long as it was within his vision he could achieve 100% perfect accuracy and hit exactly where he wanted.
The wind blade sliced directly through the remaining half of the tree before hitting another tree a few metres behind it, leaving an inch-deep gash in that one. The original tree had fallen at this point which made it the perfect test for his earth wall spell.
He not only wanted to what it looked like, but also whether it could lift things along with itself as it rose to the air. As if this was the case Deryn could potentially use this in combat to vault over his foes when they least expect it and strike them from above.
That idea was completely scratched as the wall took a full 5 seconds to form. It was a mixture of stone with packed dirt in-between the stones holding them in place. It looked like a solid wall and it lifted the tree along with it. To see just how strong the wall was Deryn walked a few metres backwards and shot a fireball at it.
The wall disappeared by about a 3rd with the majority missing being the packed dirt whilst the stones were merely broken into pieces or dropped to the ground after losing the dirt which held them in place. He couldn't tell if the wall was strong in this test. Well, he knew it held up better than a 10m tall tree, so that made it seem pretty strong.
He couldn't get an accurate gauge as he didn't have anything to compare the fireball to. The closest thing Deryn could compare the fireball to was a grenade in his past life. Even then, he felt that it was a bit of a stretch to do so as he never used a grenade during his time on earth, rather only knows of them and the power they hold from videos online.
After casting a few more spells Deryns mana went down to 25/75 mp. He didn't want to be left with completely no mana just in case he had to fight so he concluded his practice there.
Turning around to walk back to the shelter Deryn saw Kev looking in his direction open-mouthed with materials and tools piled around him. It seemed in his rush Deryn completely walked past the little hard-working kobold to go play with his new ring.
Deryn mentally praised Kev before putting the materials into his inventory. As he was walking away he gave another piece of meat to Kev telling him good job. He nudged Kev to carry on for a few more hours while Deryn headed back to the shelter, ready to look at everything else he got that needed to be examined, especially the other very rare item.
