Chapter 18: Test 1 Rewards (1)

In front of Deryn lay 6 chests, each glowing with a blue glow. These were the 4 gold and 2 elite kobold chests he got from the test.

Holding off his excitement over opening them for a moment, he decided to look at the other three items next to him.

————————————————————————————————————————————

< KOBOLD BLOODLINE ENHANCEMENT POTION (BASIC) x2 >

DESCRIPTION: A basic bloodline potion that can give the user a kobold bloodline. It also works on kobolds that an individual owns, to improve their own bloodline, allowing for evolution.

RARITY: Rare (Light Blue)

INSPECT SKILL: A mysterious potion that grants bloodline powers to whoever drinks it. Whilst weak due to the basic nature of the potion, it sets a stable foundation for future evolutions. A basic potion is only effective once per user.

SYSTEM NOTE: RECOMMENDED FOR HOST TO GIVE TO HIS KOBOLDS, BY CONSUMING IT PERSONALITY YOUR RACE WILL CHANGE TO A HYBRID KOBOLD/HUMAN >

————————————————————————————————————————————

Dery shivered at the idea of not being fully human. Imagining having a tail and so much hair you couldn't see his tan skin made him shudder once more.

He gave a mental order for Kev to come over to him from the corner of the room it was sitting.

The kobold rushed over with its typical excited expression. Deryn uncorked the potion bottle and a moment later Kev's eyes turned red as it attempted to snatch the bottle from him.

Realising its mistake it stopped itself in time. This didn't stop it from staring at the bottle like it was the only thing that mattered on this planet other than Deryn.

Shocked at its reaction he simply waved the bottle in front of the kobold. Its eyes followed the bottle like it was a pendulum and it soon became dizzy.

Deryn laughed. Deciding to stop teasing Kev, he gave it the potion.

Without an ounce of hesitation, it put the whole bottle in its mouth.

Deryn panicked and wrestled the bottle out of Kev's mouth.

"KEV NO, YOU CAN'T EAT GLASS" Deryn shouted at the Kobold who was chewing the bottle.

Deryn was shocked once more. Upon opening the Kobolds mouth there was nothing there.

< THE POTION BOTTLE IS JUST A CONTAINER HOST. IF YOU USED INSPECT ON IT YOU WOULD SEE IT ALSO A CONSUMABLE AS THE CONTAINER ITSELF WOULD ALSO CARRY SOME OF THE POTIONS EFFECTS >

Deryn relieved didn't notice the system had given him a piece of information of its own will. Normally he would ask and 90% of the time get rejected due to not having the info already unlocked.

This all went over Deryn's head at the moment as Kev was overcome with tiredness and slumped to the floor unexpectedly. A piercing red glow appeared around him and the Kobold started to change shape.

Deryn used inspect on the kobold and lost his worried expression.

————————————————————————————————————————————

INSPECT: The kobold is undergoing a bloodline evolution. The process will take 60 minutes. This will consume a lot of the body's stored nutrients.

————————————————————————————————————————————

Deryn had enough meat in his inventory to give it to Kev as soon as it woke up so wasn't worried about the last line from inspecting. He was a bit surprised by the physical changes Kev was experiencing but was no longer worried as the inspect skill hadn't said anything about any danger.

He called over the mage he nicknamed mummy. Deryn wanted to go along with naming them according to their class, but whenever he looked at the mage kobold he had tied up all he could think was that it looked like a mummy. Hence the name stuck.

Telling mummy it was allowed the potion, it eagerly grabbed it before devouring it like Kev. A moment later it was passed out on the floor next to a snoring Kev.

Next Deryn grabbed the two stones next to him. They were about the size of a baby's balled fist and glowed with a purple shimmer.

————————————————————————————————————————————

< Area conquest stone >

DESCRIPTION: A stone that allows a 50m long x 50m wide x 25m deep in the ground x 25m high from the ground up, to be recognised by the world as the user's land. The land must be the area where the user's shelter is built upon. Alien races must be purged from the chosen area before use.

RARITY: Epic (Purple)

INSPECT A stone that is rarely seen in the beginning stages of the tutorial worlds. The stone will give the same jurisdiction over claimed land as the user has over their own shelter.

SYSTEM NOTE: ...

————————————————————————————————————————————

Deryn laughed out loud for a long while. He had finally done it. The system which always left him speechless from its replies now had nothing to say. It was a small victory, but the first of many Deryn thought evilly.

< SYSTEM SUGGESTS HOST PURGES THOSE THOUGHTS... OR ADVENT POINTS MAY SPONTANEOUSLY DISAPPEAR >

Deryn was dumbfounded once again. It wasn't from what the system had said, although that did make his heart skip for a moment. The issue that shocked him was the almost human way it responded this time, leading to a multitude of thoughts flashing through his mind.

As he was about to open his mouth to ask the system, the system had already read his mind and spoke to him first.

< SYSTEM STRONGLY SUGGESTS HOST DOES NOT OVERTHINK IT >

Deryn felt a slight grave tone from this. Whilst he was still confused he didn't dare continue with his previous train of thought and decided to forget about the matter altogether for the moment.

Deryn sent a thought into the two stones and both disappeared with a purple flash.

Deryn felt his consciousness lurch as he was thrown high in the sky. Panicked he awaited the feeling of falling before hitting the ground but it never came.

Instead knowledge on how to use the stones appeared in his mind. An area of 10km2 around his shelter was shown as he looked down.

Deryn used the knowledge which came to him upon using the stones to choose ownership of the land which surrounded his shelter. The valley he was in was able to be chosen entirely along with a few metres surrounding it, whilst the large hills had their tops cut off.

Deryn frowned as he wanted to keep the valley and the hills surrounding it in their entirety. Going through the information in his mind he realised the verticle level of 100m from the two stones could be adjusted at his leisure.

After a few minutes, the land ownership was completed. Deryn had covered the hills for his valley, which had been cut off on the map sharply making for a sheer wall, as he had wanted ownership over the space near the wall of the shelter.

Overall he was happy with the chosen area. Whilst he only owned 25m underground his entire area, that was sufficient. Deryn frowned once more as he realised he still had a lot of ownership left to claim.

He once more pictured the stone, before reading its description. He sighed at his own stupidity.

The stone used his shelter as a middle point. If he just went 50m in each direction from the middle ground of his shelter, he would have all the land he wanted with room for expansion with only a slight minor adjustment.

A few more minutes passed before it was all finished. Deryn had a huge smile on his face as he mentally accepted that he was done.

Opening his eyes once more, he was back in his body. Before he could even move his body a notification went off in his mind.

< DING >

< WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT: A SURVIVOR HAS BECOME THE FIRST INDIVIDUAL TO OWN THE PHYSICAL LAND IN THE TUTORIAL WORLD >

Deryn grinned to himself. In the past few hours, there were two world announcements about his achievements. Whilst he felt it was a shame that no one knew it was him, he recognised the importance of not being named, as to not paint a target on his back.

He received another notification, only to him this time from the tutorial world alerting him that he had earned a unique reward and it was now in his inventory.

Curious Deryn pulled the item out of his inventory before dropping it to the ground. It was too heavy to hold.

————————————————————————————————————————————

< Territory flag >

DESCRIPTION: A unique flag that is given to the first owner of territory in a doomsday advent tutorial world. The flag comes with effects that permanently affects the territory it is placed within.

EFFECT 1: Natural Disaster resistance (LVL Max). The territory has 50% immunity to natural disasters of all types e.g. storms, floods and droughts.

EFFECT 2: Territory Defence(LVL Max): The defences of the territory have doubled effectiveness.

EFFECT 3: Intimidation (LVL MAX): When the territory is being attacked, the attackers are weakened by 10% whilst residents of the territory are strengthened by 10%.

Unique effect: Guardian beast (LVL 1): Allows for the owner of the territory to subdue any lifeform upon beating them and appoint it as a guardian beast of a territory. 0/1 currently.

RARITY: Unkown (Rainbow)

INSPECT: < Cannot gather information >

————————————————————————————————————————————

This was too strong. Whilst others would get the three effects, their flag would start at level 1 and there was no telling what it would take/cost to level the effects up. Not only this but Deryn's flag had a unique skill attached to it which would always give him an edge over the others. Unless they also got a unique skill of course.

Deryn found a limitation in his inspect skill as well. It didn't seem to be able to inspect things that were on the same rarity level as itself (Unkown). Deryn hoped that this would change as the skill itself levelled up but only time would tell.

Deryn went outside the shelter and placed the flag down in front of his shelter door. Before he had built up more defences surrounding the valley he wasn't content with it being any further away. He had wanted to put it up in his shelter but a notification appeared telling him it must be placed outside of the shelter.

This frustrated him but it couldn't be changed. Whilst it would be safer to leave it in his own inventory he wanted the effects of the flag active right away, there was no telling what the world would throw at him next.

Deryn also had the option to customise the flag from its pure black form but couldn't think of anything at the moment and the same went for the name of his territory.

As he was walking back to look at the rest of his loot he realised he hadn't checked the world leaderboard after he completed the test. He was sure he had gone up a ranking.

————————————————————————————————————————————

< WORLD LEADERBOARD >

1) Deryn Adams (95)

2) Keith Lichfield (75)

3) Sarah O'Neil (55)

4) Cheng Bo (50)

5) May Rose (45)

< NOTE >

The higher the leaderboard rank the better the rewards acquired. Rewards are available every week, available to be claimed every Tuesday at 8 am. Unless you move up in leaderboard rank then you can claim multiple rewards per week. First place receives a unique reward.

You have moved from rank 2 to rank 1 on the world leaderboards. You have received the equipment: Windwalker cape.

The longer you remain rank 1 the better the rewards will be.

————————————————————————————————————————————

Today's day was Thursday and Deryn had been in the tutorial world for 4 days today. He would be able to claim rewards for being ranked 1 again on Tuesday next week should he keep his place. Looking in his inventory he saw the Windwalker cape.

————————————————————————————————————————————

< WIND WALKER CAPE >

DESCRIPTION: A cape that is made up of smart fibre. Allowing the material to heal should there be enough mana in the environment.

STAT BOOST: +1 AGI, + 0.2 all other stats.

PASSIVE ABILITY: Wind sense. This allows the user to feel the mana flow of the wind. By interacting with the mana it can speed up the user's recovery; the rate of recovery is determined by the wind the user perceives.

SET BONUS: 2/9 pieces acquired: +0.5 AGI, +0.1 ALL OTHER STATS. Increases duration of Windwalker ability from 30 seconds to 1 minute with the same cooldown.

RARITY: Light blue (Rare)

INSPECT: A set of equipment focused upon the wind element. The more pieces acquired the better the bonuses.

————————————————————————————————————————————

Deryn jumped in glee. The set effect was amazing, as was the passive which increased his recovery speed. This would need more testing when he had free time. He put the cape on without any hesitation and upon buckling the clasp at the front he moaned in pleasure; his stats once more had increased.

As he was basking in the sensation he looked at his stats.

Deryn felt like he was on cloud 9. The increase in his battle strength had not been small. He was now 4.2 times faster than the average human. If before he could strike his spear twice in a second, he was confident he could do it three times now. If his strength had kept up with his agility, he was sure that this amount could be increased up to 5 times.

Deryn had a solution for his lacking strength which was the uncommon gym weights that he had built but left in the training room. If he used them for an hour a day, he could get up to 1 extra strength which was the limit allowed by using the uncommon weights. The only reason he hadn't used them yet was due to the lack of time he felt he had.

On a roll, Deryn decided it was time to look at the pet egg before he moved on to open the chests.

He grabbed it and was notified that it needed a drop of his blood before it hatched. Not hesitating Deryn poked his forearm with the makeshift skinning knife and smeared the blood from the blade on the egg.

The egg began to shake in his hands so he placed it on the ground so he didn't drop it. There was a flash of light and Deryn had to close his eyes.

*Plop*

*Plop*

Deryn opened them after hearing the plopping sound. Deryn's mouth dropped so wide it could have fit an entire basketball in there.

< HAHA... AHEM, CONGRATULATIONS HOST >

The light revealed a slime...
