Chapter 2 - Dalton Corporation

"Oh god, I can't believe myself!"

The same old thing. Just a new day.

Lia starts the day with being mad at herself and it's not anything Lia has grown used to by the way. She's pretty known with it and that being said, she looks around herself trying to find a better way of organizing herself because you know what if she bags the job today? She'll have to shift the entire schedule she had been living on for like a year and it's certainly going to be hard but not anything Lia doesn't want to happen. She wants the change and wants to welcome it wholeheartedly. It makes her happy that finally it's coming to her.

But right now, there are bigger problems on her way and she needs to focus on them instead because without those being resolved Lia can't really move forward with her day.

Anyway, so the problem is, Lia can't decide on what to wear.

Okay Lia maybe be over exaggerating the issue but still, whether it's a small one or not it's bothering Lia and she's set on making it work in the best way because forgive Lia but she has always been someone who loves to dress up which perfectly explains the unending number of piles of clothes in her wardrobe. This is the only work that's pending on her side so let's go with that because Lia had been so tired last night completing setting everything up that she just had to get into bed and sleep. No energy was there for her to try and set up her clothes as well at the end of a tiring, long day.

It has always been a thing for Lia, her clothes deciding her stature and the entire demeanor she would carry with herself. So it was indeed very important to choose what exactly should be wearing on the most important day of her life and Lia badly wants it to end in a way she has the image of it as. Lia wants it all to be in his favor and she is going to try all that she could in that direction.

The most needed thing today would be confidence and she has to pick out something that will go on to make her feel exactly like that. Something that will make her look dapper because why not?

So with that being said, there's so many suits lying on the bed that Lia can't really seem to pick anything because there's just so many options in front of her right now.

Lia leans to the side, shifting her weight on one leg, folding her arms over her chest as she scans through the clothes to think of something or just about anything that would lead to being the best outfit. Or maybe, Lia just has to stop overthinking at every occasion and every little thing? She can work on that later, right now there's better things to do and think of, she believes so.

The white suit catches her eyes and Delilah bends over to reach it, its burgundy in color and Lia quite likes it. She doesn't remember wearing it last and that being the fact that she doesn't usually wear suits. There's a collection in her closet just because she loves them and simply because it's what she has always imagined to be wearing to work.

Lia tries and finds the best of the best she can in every little situation and if it could provide her happiness because life hadn't been the best to remember as a form of having a past so there is that.

Keeping all of those thoughts aside because they don't matter, Lia slips out of her nightwear to take a shower and the shower thoughts has to be suppressed because Lia is not going to do anything that could potentially make her more anxious on the day she has an interview, one with her dream company.

Lia has definitely heard of Dalton Corporations just as much as everyone and like every other person, she wants to be working there too. Has been wanting to since last year, the very time she had been done with her degree and now that she is finally being given a chance means so much to Lia that it doesn't even appear to be possible for her to fathom correct words for how she is and has been feeling ever since she had heard of the news. It's pretty sick, for sure.

And once Lia steps out of the shower, ready to slip on the pants that aren't wide by fits her legs just right and slips on the sleeveless, button up vest completing the entire thing by the suit after she had done the bare minimum of makeup.

Also, a fact that Lia loves makeup but is too lazy to put on a full face of it every morning and she's the same even so right now. Finishing it off by tying her long hair in a low ponytail, she looks at herself in the mirror and it looks good, appropriate and Lia feels confident.

Glancing at her wrist watch, Lia still has time and well, yeah, she had woken up at seven in the morning. Had happened without an intention because the level of excitement was actually really skyrocketing and it hasn't changed even in the moment.

It reads at eight thirty am and Lia thinks she should probably leave because she is sort of new to the city, doesn't have an idea of how this busy city where everyone looks dripped up and wealthy everyday works and so she doesn't want to pull up the old excuse of getting stuck, that is not even on the list of things she is going to allow to happen.

So Lia looks for an appropriate footwear and settles with a pair of heels, not so much though, just enough because heels aren't Lia's favorite thing to wear. They make her uncomfortable in the long run, especially if they're too high. She doesn't even own any over the top ones.

Stepping out of the apartment building, Lia takes in a deep breath and stops for a second to look around. It's important because she feels the need to absorb it all slowly and steadily. Even though she has been in the city for about four days and has been out to buy a bunch of stuff too, it still feels new every time and like Lia is so unfamiliar to the place. Probably so because Lia has not ever really moved out.

Lia shifted to New York four days back and this has been her dream city to move to, the dream company being established here felt like her dreams were aligning to be full filled.

New York and Massachusetts aren't even that far away but New York just feels so different. It's culture and what it carries with itself in its very name is different and can often bring the peer pressure of living in a city like this but it's so beautiful and breathtaking that Lia doesn't even really think of all these things a lot. Not actively for sure. It has happened before she had even shifted and even in the days of living there but nothing too bad.

Walking down the streets of New York and seeing people dripped down with just so much sense of everything, the top most being fashion is so satisfying to her because it almost encourages her to dress better every time she steps out which is good. It's healing because Lia likes dressing up and the atmosphere around just adds on a reason to the entire thing, often enough, it forces her to look better which changes her entire composure.

Lia looks at her phone to see the location of where she is supposed to be and she still wonders if this is actually going to be happening or if life is about to play just about another joke on her because it's too good to be true.

Maybe Lia needs to stop underestimating what she deserves and what she doesn't because everything happens for a reason and she's really trying to live by that. Everything she'll face will have a reason and that makes her feel better about so many things on a bigger scale that it's nice to think about and makes it easier to go through.

Lia sits in the taxi as she looks around, the weather was sunny but not that hot. It's a pretty good day, the start is good at least and Lia is pretty satisfied with that. More than that honestly speaking but Lia decides to keep it low until she actually gets there.

And when she does, Lia can feel her limbs slightly shaking and it isn't because she's under prepared or anything of that sort because Lia is qualified and has never been in a better position to be assigned with a job like this and that makes her really happy and content. But then comes the fears, the usual and common ones everyone else would have in a position like hers right now but Lia shrugs it all off and straightens her back as she walks inside the building.

It's huge. The building has multiple floors and obviously so but Lia can't even really look at how it is. There are people walking in and she does so too, making her way directly to the reception area.

"What can I help you with, ma'am?" The lady asks politely, giving Lia a soft smile.

"I have an interview at Dalton Corporations." Lia answers back just as politely as she observes the receptionist. She has big eyes, looks very friendly and that solely makes Lia feel more comfortable.

"What would your name be? So, I can get it verified, along with an ID proof of your ma'am."

"I'm Lia White." Lia says as she takes out her proof from the handbag, she has with herself before slipping it on the receptionist's desk and she glances at her before handing it back to Lia. Next, she picks up the phone to dial a number and talks about Lia's presence and Lia is so taken aback by the procedure of letting anyone into the office. It is nothing less than she expected but it just catches her attention because it is very interesting for sure.

The lady keeps the phone down and brings her eyes back to look at Lia. "The floors above 7th to 15th are all Dalton Corporation, Miss Lia. You're to talk to the receptionist on the seventh floor." Lia's mind is spinning right now because she cannot even seem to fathom how huge this entire business was. For it to be spread through eight floors in just one building in a city like New York was absolutely mind boggling and Lia doesn't think she will be able to comprehend it truly. This just makes her think about how the CEO of this company must have started their journey with. It intrigues her interest but maybe that's a topic to search on for some other days. Lia murmurs a thank you to the lady in front and walks to where the elevator is.

There's not a lot of people in it with her, just two men and a lady, all of them pressing the button for ninth floor and Lia immediately thinks of them working in Dalton Corporations which is just so cool to her but right now, Lia needs to focus on herself and keep herself composed, heads up and shoulders raised. Confident and reliable for the job. She is going to score this life changing moment in her life, that's one hundred percent sure. Lia has all that she needs and she's always made sure of that being put across well and nicely so she was going to do so now as well. Lia won't step out of here with the job and she's certain about that of all things.

Walking out on the seventh floor, Lia turns to her right only to see the reception area and Lia takes a peek at her wrist watch.

Nine thirty. She is thirty minutes and that's good, it's way better than being late. And Lia hates people who don't value time anyway, she's a very punctual woman.

"Hello, I'm Lia White." Lia says as she rests her forearms on the table and the reception looks up at her. She looks like a middle-aged woman who also just seems extremely friendly, someone Lia can't resist smiling at. It's returned as well.

The lady peeps through her glasses before saying, "Good morning, Miss Lia. You've an interview at ten, you have to wait for some time." Lia nods her head at that and tracks back to sit at the couch.

Lia just watches and observes how everything happens. There is not a lot of movement in the area she's sitting but then again, there's eight goddamn floors in this office, she's sure there's a lot of movement in the rest of them. Each floor in itself was so beyond big that Lia really can't do this, can't begin to process any of this.

Lia doesn't really have an idea of what to do to kill time because she doesn't want to take out her phone. So she just sits and looks all around, trying to absorb the situation around and the sole thought of this being her workplace gives her butterflies because oh. Wow. It would definitely be a dream come true and so Lia is looking forward to that interview a lot.

She had expected herself to be a lot more nervous especially with the extra time given to do nothing but sit but instead, all her nerves have rather gone down and oh how Lia loves how everything is happening till now. She believes it'll only get better from here, prays for that.

Lia watches as the receptionist gets a call and she's just mildly watching to keep herself busy but when the lady diverts her eyes back to Lia, she gets up and walks over to her.

"You can go inside in five." The lady says and Lia is excited. She's so looking forward to it, glancing at the clock, she waits. For exactly five minutes because that's how Lia is with time. Very punctual and accurate. She's always been like this because growing up, it had been the major thing she was taught by her father. To value time or it won't value you and Lia doesn't know how much truth that statement holds but Lia does value it because it's precious. Either it's hers or anyone else's. Lia gives the reception a look as five-minute pass by and walks over to the room she is directed to then.

The nerves are coming back, just a little. Nothing too bad.

And then Lia steps inside, taking a seat in front of the man behind the desk.

"Good morning, Miss Lia."
