Chapter 34

Sam looked at Mara. They had discussed this multiple times. She knew how he felt, but he had been adamant that the final choice was hers. She looked at Sam and smiled, she bit her lip and her eyes got teary, "Yes, it is." Sam swallowed an invisible rock in his throat. Did she really say that? He had hoped, but he wasn't sure.

"Ok then folks then we're having a baby. Looks like you're due around the end of July. So Mara I'm going to send you for several blood tests, Dad you too, just some genetic panels. I will also write you a script for some Prenatal vitamins and we will see you back in three weeks. At that point we should be able to see the sex of the baby. Oh and Mara I want you to see a high Risk OB in between now and when I see you next. I'll send you that referral as well." Sam thanked the doctor and he walked out.

Sam jumped and pulled her on top of him. He was laughing, "Ha, did you hear that?!" He was so excited. "The little heart beat, that's insane. Mara I know that you were so unsure about ever having another kid, but I promise I will be the best dad. I'll do the feedings and diapers and baths," she just put her hand over his mouth and kissed him. " Sam I know you will. And I'm sorry that I kept you waiting.. I want this baby Sam and even more, I want you. I want to be your wife."

They kissed again, and Sam felt something wet on his shirt. He looked down and Mara laughed, "It's the gel." "Maybe I should change and we can get out of here. Actually, can we get a donut? I'm craving a Jelly Donut so bad." He laughed, "You don't have to ask me twice."

Sam took her to her favorite bakery. They were eating donuts and she was craving coffee. But Sam was on her about having caffeine. He convinced her to get a decaf iced coffee and went to the counter to grab it for her when they called his name. Walking back to the table he put the iced coffee in front of her. Mara had half a donut stuffed in her face, when she noticed something sparkling on the coffee. It was a beautiful diamond ring, placed around the straw of the cup.

Mara wiped her mouth, trying to swallow down the donut as fast as she could. "Sam!" she yelled out with the donut still in her mouth. "Oh my god!" What, When!" He got down on one knee, "Mara Sidney, I knew from the moment I met you, my life was never going to be the same. All I want is to wake up next to you every morning and go to bed beside you every night. I promise to always try to make you and our baby happy. Marry me? please say yes?"

Mara had tears streaming down her face, she could barely get the words out as she shook her head yes, "Yes, yes!" He took the ring off the straw and put it on her finger.

The following week…

It was Jillian's 21st birthday and she was coming home for the weekend to celebrate and help Mara pack the rest of her things up at the townhouse. Mara had decided to rent it out after she moved in with Sam. He had just come over after work and brought pizza and cherry pie of course, Jillian's favorite. Mara had told Jillian about the engagement, but they were going to surprise her about the baby. She was nervous all week worrying about how Jillian would react.

They put some candles in the pie and sang her Happy Birthday. Sam gave her a mixer for her famous cocktail creations. Mara spoiled her with several presents and she gave her one last small bag. "Hey Jilly, last one I promise," she laughed.

"Mom, oh my god, you guys are insane, you already got me too much!" Jilly took the small yellow bag and started looking through the tissue paper. She pulled out a small onesie, looking confused as she read the words, Big Sister. It took a couple seconds and then, "Whaaaa, mom what?!" She jumped up, "Mom are you, are you guys? Mara shook her head, "you're going to have a little sister." Mara was jumping up and down screaming.

"Oh my god, I can't believe this! I have to call Bryan!" "Well, do I at least get a hug." Mara yelled. "Yes, mom sorry, I'm so excited,'' she hugged her mom and Sam. "This is the best birthday present ever!" she yelled as she ran upstairs to call Bryan. "I'm going to have a baby sister!" They heard her yelling into the phone up the stairs.

"See babe I told you not to worry, she's so happy," Sam said rubbing her shoulders. She turned around to hug him. "I know, you're always right. I feel like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. I was so nervous she might be upset." "Baby the only thing you have to worry about is what sexy lingerie you're taking on our honeymoon next month. "Oh my god, let's get through the wedding first," she laughed.
