In this world, there were many different races. Spirit beasts that could take human form, elves, dragons, demons and humans were among the most prominent. They lived in relative harmony, though there would always be some discrimination amongst all of them. They didn't fight at least.
There were also gods who ruled above the Nine Heavens and were worshipped. People gained strength by cultivating and fighting. Alex was no exception, it's just that he did so at an insane rate. he had quickly advanced through the 1st Heaven so that it could not hold him anymore. Normally, one wouldn't be able to ascend until they reached 9th level GM, but Alex was talented enough to do so at 8th. This was almost unheard of, especially for humans as the weakest race.
Alex stood in the middle of a forest. Rather than being disheartened that he had ascended only to face dangers, he knew this would be a good opportunity to gain strength. He didn't complain.
He still had to be careful. There were beasts he could not handle in this forest. For the record, there were spirit beasts who could take humanoid form and demonic beasts who lacked intelligence, but had a lot of strength. The beasts he would be facing were all demonic nature unless stated otherwise.
Alex remained calm. He was sure somebody had noticed the flash of light that emanated from his ascension. By somebody he meant a beast. He could only hope that his sword skills would be enough to defeat it and that it wouldn't be too strong.
Thankfully, his prayers were answered. A 9th level beast that resembled a giant boar came charging through the forest. Alex was close to reaching 9th level himself and could use this to propel himself forward. He needed to reach the next major realm because that is where most people would be and the difference between major realms was a lot more than minor realms.
Alex swung his sword, cutting along the boars flank while simultaneously jumping and dodging the boar's tusks. The boar wasn't insanely difficult as it's lack intelligence and reckless tendencies brought it down a level.
Sure enough, despite the difference in minor realms, Alex came out victorious. It was still a long, tiring battle and Alex, who was already fatigued from his escape and ascension, needed a safe place to sleep. That would be his first priority.
