By the time they got home, it was already eleven o'clock at night. The vast living room was still brightly lit, with everyone seated on the sofa waiting for the two of them.

Even Doggy was lying on the carpeted floor, lazily wagging its tail, as if it were either relishing the warmth of the house or worried about its owners who had not yet returned.

Caroline and Joan Edwin walked into the hall one after the other. Hearing the commotion, Gordon Edwin put down the financial newspaper in his hand.

His face stern, his tone serious, "Coming back so late, where have you been fooling around?"

Virginia Daniel was about to echo her husband's words when she glanced over and noticed the bandage on her son's wrist, springing up from the sofa with a start.

"You little rascal, how did you get hurt? Did you lose a fight?"

Her eyes misted with a thin film of water; her mouth complained, but she was worriedly checking for other wounds on his body.
