Kate stood up to take her leave, insisting that Mr. Fanny take the money, which she never wanted to take.

"Have a seat, daughter. We are not done yet," Mr. Fanny commanded and Kate sat down and rolled her eyes at him in such a way that showed that she was nagging inwardly.

"Oh dad. I don't need this money. I am not in dire need of money right now. I am contented with the little I have got. Besides, how did you make such money while in jail?"

His jaw sagged, as he grinned briefly. "Forget about how I made it and take it," he interrupted her, shooting an anxious stare into her face and wondering what she was up to; he could not recall the last time he gave her money for her welfare and he feared that Kate was making her money illegally now.
