They drove quietly back to her house. Although doctor Frank was infuriated about Mary's decision not to meet with his family,, he would fain want to meet with Eva and get acquainted with her. He wouldn't want to bring Mary in the knowledge of what he planned doing because he knew Mary would want to object to it.

He stole a glance at Mary while they drove on, and he couldn't stop wondering why Mary countered his decision to introduce her to his family.
