Chapter 7: Helping a Friend

The class suddenly turned silent as everyone turned to face the now dumbstruck Collin with a pitiful and mocking expression on their faces while thanking God silently that it wasn't them.
Collin's face was ashen at this point as he was beset by confusion and fear, he silently cursed his bad luck. He glanced at Daniel only to be met with an indifferent expression on his face as their eyes met.
"Just think of it as an opportunity to man some free marks." Daniel whispered before closing his eyes.
Collin's eyes suddenly brightened as he recalled the fact that unexpected questions from Mr. Blake usually netted some extra marks. With newfound vigor, he boldly rose from his seat.
"If my memory serves me right, we were focusing on the causes of tectonic shifts and their effects." Collin said with a confident expression, his usual clumsy self gone and replaced with an intelligent glint in his eyes. "You also mentioned that..." He continued.
Daniel lightly opened one eye as he gazed at the form of Collin that was enthusiastically spewing spit all over, nearly yelling. While most times Collin acted lousy and clumsy, beneath that visage was an unusual level of intelligence which he only ever displayed when he felt the need to and now apparently one of those times. He slowly closed his eyes once more as he fell into thought, recalling the scene underground.
"I seriously hope they're still there tonight, should be fun." He said internally with a smirk. He slowly opened his eyes after a while, just in time to see Collin taking his seat while panting hard, his face red from either excitement or exhaustion.
Mr. Blake slowly nodded his head, a hidden expression of satisfaction in his eyes.
" Very well put Mr. Collin." Mr. Blake said as he adjusted his glasses. "Well let's carry on with the new syllabus." he announced as he turned towards the board.
" Looks like I aced it." Collin whispered with a grin, his breathing even.
" Good for you I guess." Daniel said, his expression still indifferent.
" So wanna go check out the new theme park later tonight, you could use that as an excuse to bring Amy." Collin whispered while giving a mischievous wink.
"There are easier ways to die than pissing me off you know." Daniel said in a low voice, a blank expression on his face as he glanced at Collin.
A bead of sweat rolled down Collin's face as he felt the coldness in his voice, he slightly shivered before his expression returned to normal.
"I'm just trying to help you out here, why the threatening words." He mumbled. " You know if you keep on like this, you're just gonna be a third wheel when we start hanging out."
"If it means not hanging out with you, then it's fine by me." Daniel muttered.
"How could I let you suffer a life of loneliness and agony, I was once single so I understand the pain and I won't let you wallow in it for long." Collin said with a serious expression on his face, a seed of determination bloomed in him as he glanced at Amy.
Daniel glanced at Collin his eyebrows slightly raised, he slowly shook his head before turning his gaze to the straight back of the female figure a few seats in front of him.
The female in question looked completely absorbed in the lesson but her mind was elsewhere, though at this point of her life multitasking was simply second nature to her as hunters were never average people.
"The statistics show that the likely culprit must be a Wererat and they always move in numbers. The only problem is we have no info on the possible numbers, I just hope Ian isn't going way over his head on this." Amelia said internally with a light frown on her face. "This could be a simple, quick, and clean mission or it could turn troublesome."
Ian lightly glanced at Amelia, though her expression was plain but having lived with her all his life he could detect the slight hint of worry in her expression.
" Sheesh she's always worrying, it's just a bunch of dumb rats. We'll kill them all regardless of how many and if we are lucky there'll even be an Alpha." He said internally to himself, a smirk slowly forming on his face.
Three different people connected by a sick twist of fate in more ways than one were unaware of the thoughts of the other. But irrespective of their different views, one thing they all agreed on was they all saw the rats as prey and nothing else.
The rest of the classes were practically a blur, as certain people were distracted through it all and couldn't wait for nightfall.
"So Sara and I are planning to hang out tonight! wanna tag along, I could talk to Amy for ya if you're feeling shy and all." Collin said to Daniel, as they could both be seen leaving their last class of the day.
"Even if I wanted to I can't, I've got plans." Daniel said. "Not like I would want to suffer an entire evening with you anyway."
"Oh come on, you're just trying to chicken out of this." Collin countered with an exasperated expression. His eyes shone brightly as he spotted Amelia a few meters ahead. A daring thought took seed in his head and with a bold expression, he took a few paces forward.
" Hey, Amy!." He yelled, loud enough to catch the attention of nearly everyone in the hallway and Amelia herself. " Would you like to go on a double date with Daniel, me, and Sara?"
Everyone had a stunned expression on their face as it took a while to process and as if practiced everyone turned their heads towards the stunned Amelia.
The girl in question was visibly stunned as she was caught off guard, but she regained her composure in a few moments. She lightly glanced at Daniel's figure behind Collin only to see his expression a mirror of hers and more, confused and frozen which slowly morphed into something worse, Rage.
Hahaahahahahahahahahaaa.
The silence was broken by a burst of loud laughter that erupted from none other than Ian, his expression was a mixture of amusement and mockery.
The loud noise seemed to rouse everyone from their stunned state as they started whispering to themselves.
"I didn't know Daniel had a crush on Amelia."
"Or maybe she's the one with a crush on him."
"When did Collin and Sara start dating?"
"And here I was thinking Wayne was too cold to have a crush."
Daniel's eyebrow slowly twitched as he naturally heard the whispers, his gaze hardened as he roughly grabbed Collin by the collar and dragged him towards the exit.
"Oi let me go, I'm trying to help you out here." Collin yelled.
"I'm going to kill you, you piece of shit!." Daniel yelled as he roughly dragged him outside.
"Sorry about that, he loses a few screws every now and then." He softly said to Amelia as he passed by while shooting a glare at the chuckling Ian.
Their figures quickly disappeared towards the exit, Collin's yells slowly drifting away.
"Okay best second day of school ever." Ian yelled as he moved closer, rubbing the tears off his face.
Amelia glanced at the disappearing figure of David before she turned to Ian with a scowl.
"Shut your shit mouth Ian!." She yelled back as she walked away.
Ian glanced at the exit before he chuckled to himself again.
They both headed out a while later only to be welcomed by the sight of Collin hanging a few feet above the ground on a tree, held by his backpack. A low rumble was heard as Daniel drove off on his bike completely ignoring Collin's plea for help.
"Seriously! This is what I get for trying to help out a friend." Collin yelled exasperated, his body swaying slowly.
"Now that's funny." Ian chuckled.
