In the Sub-Dimensional space where everything was white as far as eyes can see, there was a very large round table with twelve seats in the middle of the space. The twelve Elder Gods sat on the respective seats and Ryuji was one of those Elder Gods.

He attained his godhood and his title due to his deed saving the mother Earth from complete destruction when The Calamity occurred. Therefore, The Sovereign of the Darkness was bestowed upon Ryuji. He got his title after defeating former The Sovereign of the Darkness, Lord of the Mist, Abaddon.

Ryuji sat on his seat with Kuryu and Saphyro who obediently stood behind him, acting as Ryuji's subjects.

Hence, the Twelve Elder Gods entitled themselves by The Council.
