Chapter 3 Restless Night (1)

Fang stood still in his place absent-minded while reminiscing on the spectacular scene that just took place in front of his very own eyes 'why did a giant bear that was radiating unparalleled strength and a dominating aura suddenly flee with its tail between its legs all of a sudden without even putting up a fight against that strange wolf?' Fang pounded hard about the answer in his head to the point of knocking his forehead against the gigantic tree that he was using as his hiding spot trying desperately to find that one missing piece that seemed to be just out of his reach. After knocking his forehead against the extremely thick tree that radiated an enormous amount of vitality that rivalled even that of giants with roots pulsated once every few breaths giving the illusion that they weren't just roots but instead thick vanes that drug deep into the ground he thought about the events that transpired before and after the silver bear escaped.

Even though Fang was not the sharpest tool in the shed he was still not the dullest, after a brief moment of pondering Fang concluded that everything that happened including the reason why he's still alive was because of that ear-deafening howl that scared the life out of the silver bear 'but what I don't get is why was the silver bear so afraid of the snow-white wolf even though it was several times bigger and probably stronger than it, so why would it desperately run away' the more he tried to find an answer he only ended up with more questions so he just decided to give up on trying to find the answers he was looking for and find a place to sleep cause the sun has already set and many untold dangers roam the forest at night.

Fang looked up at the gigantic tree next to him and decided to spend the night on one of its numerous branches, Fang utilized the potholes to climb up to the second branch which was several meters in the air. Fang sat down on the branch and laid against the tree stem before slowly raising his head to gaze at tonight's night sky only to be disappointed by the large gathering of clouds that blocked the very of the stars 'what am I doing with my life, am I gonna die here, what did I do to deserve this' negative thoughts flooded his mind like a tsunami causing him to almost crying his heart out 'calm down Fang I know you can survive this so be strong and be cautious that's all you need' after a round of self-encouragement Fang closed his eyes and drifted to the land of dreams even though it wasn't as late as his usual sleeping time but because of the day's events he was more exhausted than he's ever been in his life.

Clouds came and gone revealing the jewel-like shining stars for all to marvel at their beauty, although it was impossible to measure accurately what time it was one could tell by the cold night breeze and darkness that shrouded the world with only the red moon reflecting a bit of light upon the earth that the time should be past midnight. Fang was currently sleeping to recover his energy and mental health when a giant looming figure appeared in the dark with its body wrapped around the tree to prevent it from falling off as it stealthily approached the sleeping Fang with malicious intent.

The 10 meters long and 3 meters wide red serpent was originally resting on the higher breaches when sensed an intruder stepping on its territory which greatly alarmed the slumbering serpent directly knocking it out of its dream and instinctively readying itself for a life and death battle with the intruder but when it caught sight of the intruder it was pleasantly surprising. Who would've thought that someone would be kind enough to bring it a midnight snack so to show its gratefulness to the figure that lay before it it would give it a quick and painless death? The serpent expertly slid down the tree barely making any noise at all, the serpent was in such a great mood that it realised a soft hiss that was almost inaudible but what happened afterwards left the red serpent highly dumbfounded.

Fang was still sleeping on the branch his senses not picking up even the slightest bit of danger allowing him to have a peaceful sleep, but when his ears picked up the faint sound of hissing nearby his causing eyes instantly open wide and raise to his feet and dashed towards another tree that was near his current tree then jumped from the second branch over a wide area of open space and raised his hands in the air to grab the branches on the other tree. Fang made a leap of faith and grabbed the second branch of the tree but his momentum was still strong causing him to slam against the tree stem causing his arms to lose balance and fall back first into the first branch he coughed up a mouthful of blood and suffered damage to his spine but thanks to the adrenaline rushing through his blood he hardly felt the pain. Fang stood back up and jumped to another branch that was barely at arm's reach for him even though he was considered to be pretty tall when he was back on earth but in this world, he was incredibly short which made his life highly miserable, he grabbed the branch and used it to swing towards another the branch before jumping onto another tree making his swift getaway.

The red serpent was dumbfounded unable to reach as it watched its prey making its escape wonder 'why'd my meal sudden wake up and escape when I approached it' the red serpent saw Fang's silhouette disappear into the vast number of trees before finally making its move but unlike Fang who struggled to travel from branch to branch because of his height and the darkness that shrouded the entire forest it didn't have any problem with getting from one tree to another because of it's the large body making it's speed several times faster than Fang's. Before the time it took to burn a piece of instance the originally disappeared silhouette appeared with the red serpent's vision once more making the red serpent incredibly excited and promptly increasing its speed.

Fang who was breathing a sigh of relief at having avoided and dangerous situation and was about to thank his irrational fear of snakes when he heard the sound of slithering and breaking twigs made his hairs stand up as his heart once again sank to the deepest depths of his stomach 'f*ck it's chasing me!!! what's wrong with these beasts why must they be so vicious!' Fang complained in his heart and increased his pace even though unlike the red serpent who was an expert at travelling on trees if he made even a single mistake when jumping from tree branch to tree branch it may very well cost him his life.

Fang tried desperately to escape but the distance between them didn't increase instead it was decreasing at a frightening pace causing cold sweat to appear on Fang's face, as he jumped from branch to branch he eventually caught sight of a dark cave on his left-hand side that had a narrow entrance but seemed to be just enough for him to squeeze through. Without much contemplating Fang directly changed directions and jumped to the second branch of the tree that was in the middle of his tree and the tree that was next to the cave. The tree that was next to the cave had one branch that was only 5 meters from the ground with its second branch being higher than the branch he was currently standing on so jumping on it was pointless since the red serpent that was chasing him wouldn't let him climb down so he had no choice but to jump down several meters and hope that he can grab the branch or else he was gonna fall to his death. After taking a deep breath and steeling his heart Fang made yet another leap of faith but this time it was even more dangerous than before, he fell for about 6 meters before the branch entered grabbing distance.

This fall perfectly showcased exactly how gigantic the trees were with each branch being separated by several meters and if one looked up they would see tons of branches sprouting around every tree, when Fang saw the branch was within grabbing distance he calmed nerves, pushed his senses and reflexes to the limit then time seemed to slow down drastically as he utilized every single muscle in his body to their absolute limit and reaching his peak state. A large amount of blood rushed into Fang's eyes causing them to turn bloodshot red, all these changes that occurred in Fang's body only took a fraction of a second as he skilful grabbed the branch with both hands and used it to swing his body into the air then perform a triple flip and smash landed on the ground with a superhero landing causing dust clouds all over the area.

Immediately after landing Fang dashed towards the narrow cave entrance and squeezed himself through before breathing a sigh of relief but as he was just about to relax the adrenaline in his body disappeared completely causing intense pain to emitted from his body and he immediately lost consciousness and collapsed on the ground like a corpse but what Fang didn't know was that the red serpent gave up chasing him and retreated the moment it saw him heading towards the cave almost as if it was a bit afraid of what resided within.

After Fang lost consciousness hundreds if not thousands of red eyes revealed themselves within the darkness of the cave and in the very centre were eight large eyes that seemed to be not only the biggest but also the brightest within the dark cave. All of the red eyes stared at Fang and strange shrieking sounds filled the cave. just as the saying goes out of the pan and into the flame.
