Chapter 8 Bravery Of The Weak (1)

Fang, who was taking a nice, warm and relaxing bath, felt so alive even though the river was really deep to the point he wasn't able to see the bottom even though the water was crystal clear without any hints of pollution.

Fang stayed in the water after cleaning himself up to wash his dirty clothes, because these were his only pair of clothing that he had, and that functioned as not only a bug bite protection gear but also his shield against the cold night breeze, so he had to be very careful on how he handled them. Fang entered the water at about noon and exited at sunset, and his wet clothes that had now regained their black lustre hung up on a nearby tree.

The clothes were mostly dried, so Fang dried himself up by using the cold breeze that was originally much warmer during the day. Fang didn't have any towels so he had to do things the old-fashioned *cough* I mean the traditional way to dry himself off, but he couldn't stay naked for too long or else he might catch a cold, or worse freeze his balls that were hanging around in plain sight, for all to gaze upon.

Fang pulled his almost dried clothes from the tree branch they were hung on, and wore them starting with his underwear then jacket, and finished off with his pants. After dressing himself Fang, who was feeling cold, climbed up the tree that he used to hang his clothes, so he can sleep with a peaceful mind knowing that he was safe from the wondering beast that lurked in the night.

.... Midnight

Fang heard loud splashing noises that kept disturbing his peaceful sleep, and cursed,' who the fuck keeps making so much noise in the middle of the night! go to sleep already you bastard!' Fang cursed at the thing that was causing all the commotion in the water, and decided to take a sneak peek at the annoying beast but what he saw completely shocked him straight to his core.

In the deep crystal clear flowing river 10 giant tentacles that were 10 meters tall and 5 metes wide were sprouting from underneath the large river, and tightly wrapping a giant 6 meters long, and 4 meters wide pale flue salamander in the air the water as it struggled with all it's might break free from the river beast's grip.

The tentacles of the river beast could individually be compared to the red serpent that he met a long time ago, but when they were grouped like this the red serpent was nowhere near their match. The river beast's tentacles were extremely pale to the extent that one could see its pulsating vanes, and contracted muscle tissues. The thousands of suckers that were attached to the tentacles each tore a small hole into the giant salamander's scaly hide fully displaying their incredible suction force, and sucking out its blood through its thousands of suckers.

"ROOOAAARRR!!!...ROOAAARRR!...roar!..."

The salamander roared its lungs out, but as time passed its roaring gradually died down as its gigantic body was rapidly sucked dry instantly turning it into a dried corpse. After the salamander's blood was sucked dry by the suckers air bubbles formed in the water as if something extremely large was headed towards the river Waters' surface, and a second later the water rose to form a small hill in the water. The small hill of water dispersed in different directions revealing a giant mouth with so many rows of sharp teeth that Fang couldn't even see where they ended even from high up on the tree.

The river beast's mouth was so wide to the point that it can swallow a large truck whole in one bite. The salamander corpse that was suspended in the air by the large terrifying tentacles was inevitably eaten by the river beast. Even though Fang could not see what was happening inside the river beast's mouth he could hear the loud sounds of bones shattering, flesh-tearing apart, and organs squishing like bubblegum as they're ground into tiny pieces.

After having its meal the river slowly sank back into the depts of the river along with its bloody tentacles, but Fang who witnessed the whole scene although not from the start but he did catch it midway and got the scare of his life as couldn't help but ask," What was that beast? it's on a whole other level than the sabre tooth tiger that I almost died fighting yesterday, so does this mean that there are no safe places to hide in, while I try to think of a way back home, or wait for an encounter with another human."

Fang immediately brushed off that though the instant it came out of his mouth, and continued," I have been in this place for such a long time, and I still haven't encountered any human beings, nor any human remains. The only humanoid beast I've seen since I got transported to this godforsaken world is the face eater, and I can't exactly imagine the vicious beast to agree in forming a partnership with me." Fang's face was as pale as a sheet of paper when he thought about his uncertain future.

When Fang thought about his future he saw his skeletal frame laying in a ditch completely devoid of flesh. The image shocked him and caused him to scream from the top of his lungs," NOOOOOOO!!!" Fang completely lost it for a second before covering his mouth with his hand as he remembered that a horrifying beast is lurking in the river, and if he somehow grabbed its attention he would die without a doubt.

Air bubbles formed on the surface of the water causing Fang's hair to stand on edge as he kept still not even daring to inhale or exhale. The air bubbles only lasted for a few seconds before disappearing completely as if they were never there to be with.

Fang who was panicking on the tree branch breathed a sigh of relief, and not dared to make another peep, or else the beast would locate him since he never dared to believe that the beast has left, so he sat down, leaned against the tree, and cleared his head to rest peacefully since he knew that every day was a struggle to survive, and travelling with a fatigued body was equal to committing suicide.

....Dawn

The bright yellow light of the golden sun peacefully shone upon his sleeping figure, warming up his flesh that had gone cold after being repeatedly assaulted by the cold night wind. Fang slowly opened his eyes but didn't move an inch, nor utter a single word as he enjoyed the golden sun's yellow rays that were tanning his smooth milky white skin.

Fang stayed under the sun's direct light for about an hour until his skin changed colour a bit from milky white to slight chocolate brown. The only reason Fang's skin never changed colour in the past was that he always stayed under the tree's shadows. After all, he didn't want to expose himself to any beast that might be nearby, so now that he got the chance he decided to gladly accept it.

Fang's slightly tanned skin made him look more manly, as he walked towards the river to take a bath since he figured that the river beast is a night hunter type of beast, and thankfully his guess was spot on since he finished his bath with his life still intact. After taking his bath Fang waited for the current to flow before cupping his hands in the shape of a bowl, and scooping up the river water with his cupped hands, opening his mouth, pouring the water inside, and swallowing it.

The crystal clear river water tasted really good not to mention very refreshingly as he couldn't help himself from drinking it a few more times before wiping his mouth when he was finished.

Fang felt very resentful at the fact that he couldn't take the water with him since he had no intention of sticking around lest he wants to get attacked by other beasts that wanted to drink from the river as well, and not to mention the river beast that resides in the depts of the river will make him it's a snack the instant it discovered him, so how could he keep staying in such a place since he didn't want to die at the hands of wild beasts. According to Fang's mentality, not even a dragon is qualified to take his precious life so how could he allow these savage forest beasts to kill him.

Fang stretched his stiff limbs and readied himself to hit the road with his spear tied to his back along with his two knives that resided within his pockets. Fang headed downstream randomly roaming the forest without a real destination as he didn't have any home, and he needed to hunt for some food since the last thing he ate was the spider leader's corpse that he saved for last after eating all its underlings. The spider leader tasted just as bad as the rest making Fang wonder if it was just that the spiders as a species just tasted horrible, but as Fang was continuing with his peaceful walk a tragic howl rang in his ears.

"AAWWWOOOO!!"

"Wait a minute that sounds like a wolf's howl"

Fang was heavily startled as he acted against his instincts and ran at his top speed towards the source of the ear-piercing howl as to see what was happening in that location since he has seen the wolves display of dominance in the past, and was curious as to what creature would dare to not only challenge them but can put them in such a tragic state.
