BACK TO ALICE

My head snaps to Brent. He is still staring the man down.

I look at the man more intently this time. The features are there. The eyes, the thin line of the mouth. He picked up a lot of weight but it is most definitely him.

I wish I could remember everything I have forgotten. I would like to say something but I am unsure of what the consequences may be. I wish these men would quit their staring contest and start talking.

As if he is able to hear me Brent shifts in his chair.

"You have picked a fine time to surface." Brent tells the man. His voice is cold and without emotion.

"I did what I needed to do." The man states in a matter-of-fact tone.

"You made selfish decisions." Brent counters in the same tone.

"I saved myself" The man states again.

"You were protected. You didn't need to save yourself." Brent states again. There is a hint of anger simmering into his voice.
