With the shocked expressions on our faces and the complete silence in the room the doctor finally looks up from his little monitor. He shifts his gaze from me to Brent and then the realisation dawns on him.
"You didn't know there were twins?" he asks.
Brent and I shake our heads simultaneously.
"No Doctor, we didn't know." Brent tells him.
"Oh, well then. Congratulations!" he tells us. We both smile at him but the shock persists. He prints out a few of the shots of the babies and then hands the little string of photos to me. I hold them in my hands and stare at the images in front of me. It is really difficult to see a baby. All I see is straight lines or circles. At least there is one of the pictures that shows the babies' heartbeats. I can see that it is healthy heart beats and that makes me happy.
