Running into Metal Monster

"Bang!"

An unusually loud shot rang in the area as the fiery shell went past just a hairbreadth away from the head of Crey. The explosive projectile brushed past the few stray hairs of Crey, all the while scraping a burning laceration on his head.

He rolled away from the droid, the moment his feet touched the ground. He winced as he touched his head where a few of hair had been burned off but more than that seeing the size of the Droid that had targeted them. It was clearly a level A Droid which has rendered chances of their survival difficult.

'What the hell was it doing here? ' he thought.

"Oh god!...."

Muttered Eyas as he too emerged from the broken wall. As he hadn't imagined it even in the worst ever situation that they would have to face an A-level threat by themselves. Now, standing in between him and Crey was a real war machine that was obviously considered the vanguard of an army.

It was a giant made of steel in human shape, almost eight feet in height. The droid was laced with black mechanical and electrical pumping parts with one hand shaped like a giant blade and the other a fiery cannon. The diamond-shaped robotic head with blinking red camera eye has easy access to the most advanced tracking technology to identify its target which in this case was them.

Existing in a stalemate Suddenly, the droid rotated 180° on its axle fixed on his waist and looked towards the Eyas who stiffened as the Droid raised its cannon arm to aim at him. The sudden rotation took Eyas and Crey by surprise but it was not entirely incomprehensible since It was a mechanical Droid.

They were programmed to fight like a droid, not a human. Therefore such unconventional movements were often deliberately preferred by the makers to catch their humane targets off guard.

The moment the droid turned back to face Eyas. Crey had a perfect chance to run for his life, but instead of running away, he shouted while dashing towards the killer Robot. It was a purely reflex decision since he had no idea until then how to stop that Gun from firing.

"Don't go.. back!"

Eyas, who was just about to retreat inside the tower due to his emergency flight response, halted as he remembered that the tower in the back itself was on the verge of exploding.

Adrenaline pumped inside the arteries of Eyas, giving him immense energy to act in fight or flight response but the words of Crey were acting as a fine anchor stopping him from making a foolish decision at this dangerous moment. He could feel the threat from that muzzle of droid aimed at him, knowing at any second he would be pushed to death.

But despite the fear, he resisted his urge to run and the very next second, the cannon blazed from the droid and fired towards the stationary target.

"Damn!..."

Crey slipped past the legs of Droid and then used his arm as support to headstand and brought his leg with immense momentum to kick towards the firing shoulder of Droid to make him miss his aim. But curse escaped his mouth as he realized that droid had already shot before him able to reach it.

He was a step too late!

The hard kick landed on the shoulder of Droid, but ….

'Thump'

….But it didn't achieve anything. The force behind his kick, although several times more than the average human - capable of denting a steel plate, was nothing compared to this hefty steel machine. The heavy and robust droid didn't even tremble as Crey found his kick halted still like he had kicked a concrete wall. The intense pain shot in his foot upon kicking a robot weighing more than a ton, but at this moment this injury was very low on his priority list.

The droid looked down to focus on this target, While Crey was more focused on the fate of Eyas than himself who was directly in the line of fire of that explosive shell.

"Bang!"

An explosion sounded the next moment, as Crey had his eyes dilated while being upside down. He watched the hungry fire consuming the broken metal wall of the tower where Eyas was. The explosion soon engulfed everything in his sight.

The incendiary outbreak spread the moment the shell hit its target, swallowing the Eyas and the broken wall in the blaze of fire. Crey stared fixedly as the heat wave was blown up to him. But before he could even react to the explosion, the droid lifted his right arm to slash at this feeble human at his feet.

Crey, feeling the danger, quickly pushed against the ground as he dodged the slash of the several tons of metal blade. Just an instant he skittled back, the place where he was, the big heavy blade landed violently. Crey, who had trotted back timely to open a little distance, cringed dramatically watching the ground burst open in two shallow cracks under the slam of that heavy blade.

Crey quickly glanced back and was disappointed to see the whole metal wall being blasted towards the inside in an explosion with no signs of Eyas surviving. More than sorrow, it was guilt that hit him but he quickly buried it deep down watching the Droid walking towards him while waving that monster blade.

'*Sigh* Another good kid gone!

…..No, not now.

First focus on this monstrosity. If that thing even brushed me, instead of chopping, it would smash my bones into a million pieces just by its weight alone.'

At this moment, Crey shrugged both his hands but felt dissatisfied to feel no strength in them. Even if he was in his top condition to take down this monster, it would take considerable effort because a machine like this is much superior to an unarmed non-ability human. Therefore best response would be now,

".....to run away!"

Crey thought aloud while minutely observing the Mech Robot determine whether it was only a melee droid. If yes, then there would be a chance to run but if this is a non-specialized Droid (often made similar from outside to confuse enemies), then running away would be as meaningless as running out the bear.

"Boom.Boom!! Boom…"

But his thoughts were interrupted when the tower beside him began to crumble loudly. The self-destruct finally triggered as explosions rang inside the building, making the big metal casket collapse on its own. The whole building displayed the epitome of immediate demolition….reduced to the ruin slag tumbling down in just a few minutes.
