CH.23 Camping In The Wild

We camped in the woods and took some food from Medusa's house, although they didn't light a fire because they were scared of attracting monsters. We decided to sleep in shifts, and I tried to sleep but found that I couldn't, Annabeth was sleeping, well more like snoring but that wasn't what was keeping me up, no it was the conversation between Percy and Grover.

Grover was on a tree staring at the night sky and I could hear his shoes wings fluttering in the air.

"Go ahead and sleep, ill wake you up if there's trouble," Percy said looking up at Grover.

He nodded but still didn't close his eyes "it makes me sad Percy" he said with a somber tone.

"What does? The fact that you signed up for this stupid quest?" Percy said jokingly making me agree with him that this was a stupid quest.

"No, this makes me sad," he said and pointed at the garbage on the ground "and the sky you can't even see the stars, they've polluted the sky, this is a terrible time to be a satyr" Grover finished saying.

"Oh yeah I guess you'd be an environmentalist," Percy said.

Grover glared at Percy "only a human wouldn't be, your species is clogging up the world so … ah never mind it's useless to lecture a hum, at the rate things are going I'll never find pan"

"Pam? Like the cooking spray" Percy asked.

"Pan!" Grover yelled "P-A-N, the great god Pan! What do you think I want a searcher license for?" Grover said angrily.

After he said that I felt a breeze of power, it was filled with the power of nature too and overpower the smell of the garbage, then brought the smell of berries and wildflowers, the last thing is I thought I saw a satyr who winked at me.

"that's not a nice thing to say Percy you as well Grover," I said bringing attention to me.

"it's not nice to make fun of someone's interest even if you're just joking and Grover just because Percy is a human you should judge him for his race's actions, trust me that won't get you anywhere," I said.

"Now be good friends and apologize to each other," I said making them turn to each other.

"Sorry," Percy said scratching his head.

"it's fine and me too," Grover said.

"Tell me about the search," Percy asked after a while.

Grover looked at us cautiously then started speaking " the God of wild places disappeared two thousand years ago, a sailor off the coast of Ephesos hear a mysterious voice crying out from the shore, "Tell them that the great god Pan has died" when humans heard the news they believed it they've been pillaging pans kingdom ever since but for the satyrs, Pan was our lord and master he protected us and the wild places of the earth, we refused to believed he died, in every generation the bravest satyrs pledges to find Pan, they search the earth exploring the wildest places hoping to find where he is hidden and wake him from his slumber" Grover said

"And let me guess you want to search for him," I asked after he finished his story.

"it's my life's dream," he said, "my father was a searcher, and my uncle Ferdinand. the statue you saw back there- "

"Oh, right sorry," Percy said.

Grover shook his head "Uncle Ferdinand knew the risk. so did my dad. But I'll succeed I'll be the first searcher to return alive"

"Hang on- the first?" Percy said shocked.

"I'm guessing no searcher has made it back alive," I said.

"Yeah," Grover said and took out his reed pipes out of his pockets.

"Not once in a thousand years," Percy said again shocked.

"No," Grover said.

"And you still want to go!" Percy practically yelled.

"I have to believe Percy every searcher does it's the only thing that keeps us from despair when we look at what humans have done to the world, I have to believe that pan can be awakened," Grover said.

"I doubt that pan is sleeping," I said.

"What are you talking about," Grover said almost angrily.

"Even for a god no one sleeps for that long, he most likely dying like you said he the god of wild places and that is his divinity when a god's divinity is erased, he dies along with it, and so enough Pan going to die," I said.

"NO THAT'S NOT TRUE!" Grover yelled.

"I'm sort but it is, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to be found, his most likely looking for a person to pass his title to, and I got a feeling that it's going to be you," I said causing him to be quiet.

After a while, Percy spoke, "how are we going to get into the underworld?" Percy said.

"Oh, is that where we're going," I said.

"Oh!" Percy said and smacked his face.

"it's fine I already guessed where we were going, and also why you dint tell me, let me tell you know I'm not working for my dad, and neither did I steal the bolt," I said causing them to sigh in relief.

"About getting into the underworld don't worry I got that cover," I said blankly and went to sleep.

Percy and Grover kept talking about other things such as his first keeper job and Annabeth, but I had a more pressing thing to think about. The fact I need to be careful about what I choose as my divinity when I start my cult.

God's although powerful if you don't get a divinity that's going to last forever you die like what's most likely happening to pan right about now. I need to pick something that will be powerful and last forever, a concept that transcends death and time together.

When I fell asleep, I did not have pleasant dreams no, instead, I was in a place that I did not want to be, the bottomless pit, well at least this time I wasn't alone Percy was with me in this annoying dream.
