Evans walked briskly towards Claire's office and thought for a while before lifting his hands to knock on the door.

He slowly let himself into the room and upon seeing him, Claire smiled.

" I hope you have a little time to spare," Evans asked and Claire closed the files she was working on and smiled at Evans as she said, " I'm all ears,"

"I feel haunted," Evans said in a low voice and Claire looked at him with compassion, waiting for him to say more.

"I wasn't at work yesterday," Evans said and Claire nodded, remembering too well she had passed by his office and not seen him there. She had resisted the urge to call him.

"We had a court hearing about my case, which I'm sure you know everything about," Evans went on, his pitch reducing with each word he said. Claire nodded in response and looked at him hopefully, waiting for him to talk.
