"Evacuating Nigerians is an impossible task. There must be another solution," Philip said in anger. "Now I can say for sure that God does not exist. Which God will sit back and watch his people suffer? The end of the church of God is near."
"Keep quiet Mr. Philip. Do not blemish God's name. You are misguided. There is more to a church than just mortar and stone. The Illuminati cannot simply erase thousand years of faith. You can never crush a person's faith simply by removing its earthly manifestations. The church of God will prevail, with or without Nigeria.
"A noble lie but still a lie all the same. You and I are aware of what the truth is. Churches will become bankrupt and even if they are not, they will not have access to food and water because the Illuminati now have right over it."
Faith, not food or water is the backbone of the church."
"More lies. Then why are Christians giving up their faith for food and water?"
"Simple, because they can't see the truth that lies in front of them. Jesus is the one true life, food and water are just physical steps to having life but when you have Jesus, even food or water won't satisfy you the way Jesus does."
"Although you will not admit it, the Christians are dying, consider this a chance to go out with a bang."
Catherine seemed less combative now, it was as though she just sensed the reality facing her. She looked like a woman searching for an out. Any out.
"I'm sure you must have heard of the saying if you can't beat them, you join them. In my own knowledge, it is if you can't beat them, they join you. Watch out Mr. Philip, at the end you will know who holds the key to your life."
"The end is now, we are never getting out of the Illuminati's church. We will die here," Philip said.
"I thought you said the scientists were all Illuminati, what happened to the statement? What didn't you accept to be an illuminates?"
Philip was silent for a long time. "It is because of my country. If I agreed to be an illuminates, then I would join the Illuminati in persecuting Christians."
"I believe it is because God really wants to use you to save your country."
Philip considered that. It actually made little sense to him. An escape way was the miracle he needed now.
"You know Mr. Philip. Think back to what you knew about the Illuminati. We might be lucky, we just can never tell," Catherine said.
Escape plan, Philip thought. Yes! But he wasn't ready for now.
"Hello," an illuminates said, coming into the room. "You have got a chance now, nail it with your might. Join Illuminati or loose your eyes?"
"My eyes," Philip thought. No way, I should join the Illuminati and get this done with. The illuminates walked in the dim lit. Philip and Catherine saw a knife in his hand. "Don't be stubborn, there is no God." Someone help me tell her, Philip said under his breath. There is no God.
"What is your ulterior motive for deceiving us?" Catherine asked.
"Deception are the church antics. As for us, we only bring the truth to everyone."
"But there is a Satan?" Catherine asked.
"I do not think so," the illuminate responded.
"We are all alive, all thanks to the evolution of mankind. All thanks to the bing bang theory, can't you see the bible underestimates science. Science claims everything is created from something but the bible claims that everything was created from nothing. Lies, look around you, everything in this world is all about matter __"
"If you have come here to change my faith, then you have come in vain because I will never become an illuminates."
"Philip___"
"How did you know my name?"
"Science is leading. You are the best scientist in Nigeria. Then comes along is she," he said pointing at Catherine.
"Now Philip, I know you know there's nothing like God. Join the Illuminati."
"Don't Philip. He's trying to hypnotize you. There's___"
One of the illuminates slapped her. Philip was startled. He immediately stood.
"Join the Illuminati or I will kill her."
"No Philip," Catherine cried.
"She means nothing to me. You can kill her."
"Hmm, what about yourself?" One of the Illuminati asked, while walking close to Philip. "Does your life mean nothing to you?"
Philip said nothing.
"At the count of five, if you do not join the Illuminati, you will lose both of your eyes."
"Do not waste your time counting, I am as ready as ever to lose my eyes."
The illuminate held his head.
Catherine pleaded.
Philip's eyes dread with battling fear and courage.
At once the illuminates dug a knife into his left eye.
Philip groaned.
"Stop," Catherine begged. "You are hurting him."
The illuminates dug out the knife. Philip's left eye was filled with blood. The illuminates left the room at once. Catherine walked to Philip. "I'm so sorry."
"It is just the eyes that is condemned not my spirit," Philip joked.
Catherine smiled. "Allow me to bandage your injured eye."
