Open Your Eyes

Krenen rushed through the woods for two days straight, without stopping, hoping to catch up with the monster that took Irimena with it. There was no trace of blood along the trail, which gave little and cruel hope to him. Even if the poor girl was alive at the end of this pursuit, what chance did Krenen have of saving her? It was likely that the monster would eat him with, of after her. But that was fine. Krenen owed it to Irimena. Or he felt like he did.

The track left by the lorsul was easy to follow. It was a huge beast that flattened or broke anything it came across. Following its trail was practically an unconscious endeavor that allowed Krenen to concentrate on speed, and to push forward as quickly as the snow and forest allowed. His only source of heat was a torch, and he could produce berries and nuts from his pockets to eat without stopping.
