While men practiced with broader, heftier wooden swords, women did so with thinner, less heavy ones that they could really only use with one hand, and mostly for thrusting. The styles necessitated by each different kind of sword were very different, but similar in some aspects. Any kind of sword needed finesse to be handled effectively, but their build and weight allowed or prohibited different things.
The same principles applied to their users.
Rosel could not believe that everyone in town was allowed to practice swordsmanship. Not only that, but everyone was given a sword when they demonstrated their competency with it. A sword! The symbol of kings, even more than a crown. And any common man and woman was allowed to have one! It was required that they keep it inside their houses at all times, sure. But still.
A sword! In the hands of common folks!
