Chapter 62

Jessica's POV

I got into my jet as soon as we've arrived at the airport. Throughout the flight, I couldn't help my legs from bobbing up and down from nervousness. Xavier told me that it's most likely an attack from American mafia as the security in France was pretty hard to get through and the only ones, they could attack were Damon and the ones staying in Italy.

I got so infuriated to the point that I isolated myself from everyone in the jet and started writing down the painful ways to make WIlliam regret his choice. Damon was the only blood-related relative I've left and I just can't bring it to myself to lose him.

After all these years of living a life full of lies, I can't lose him just yet. He has to live on. When we've safely landed in Italy, the paper infront of me was a total mess from my scribbles. I burned the paper after asking Xavier for a lighter.

As soon as we got off, we took our ride to the hospital where Damon was hospitalized. As soon as I entered a building which was bustling with people, I had to part my ways to get to the reception and ask for the room Damon was staying in.

I was about to take the elevator but it was full of people who were waiting in a queue. I decided to take the stairs and ran up the stairs till I reached the seventh floor. I slammed the door open and went to reception yet again and asked for directions.

I easily noticed all too familiar figures crouching infront of a room, hugging each other as they sobbed in each other's arms. It was Kate and Fiona.

When I approached them, I could hear a commotion from the room infront of us where nurses and doctors were going crazy inside to save the person inside.

The heart monitor was beeping from an abnormal heart rate and sometimes, the all too annoying sound stopped, indicating Damon's heart stopped beating.

I just stood there, unmoving as I stared inside the room in chaos. I then turned to Kate and Fiona who were on their feet and hugged me.

"My-dad-inside-dying" Fiona tried to speak through her tear- strained voice and I wiped her tears.

Kate was a crying mess too and she didn't even say a word. It was so heartbreaking to see them like this as they always laughed around, cracking jokes.

I looked inside the room and the heart monitor was beeping with faint heartbeats which was a huge relief as he'd survived a cardiac arrest.

I stood there with Kate and Fiona for half an hour till the doctors and nurses piled out of the room and went on their separate ways.

The last one to come out told us that he isn't ready to meet any visitors for now so we better give him some break. I nodded as I sat on a nearby bench with Kate and Fiona who were still crying their eyes out.

"Hey guys. I don't think we will be allowed to get inside for now. Why don't you go home, get some shower, prepare some clothes and necessities you will need for a week or two to accompany Damon?" I suggested it but they seemed unconvinced.

"Don't worry about him. I will be here to look after him. You guys aren't helping anyone by sitting here and crying. Damon won't want to see you guys cry too. Go home, calm yourselves and come here after taking a rest." I helped them to their feet and escorted them out of the floor.

Xavier helped them to the elevator and I went to the reception to ask the nurse a question.

"Hello. I was just wondering if I could go inside, please? The outside is pretty cold and I promise that I won't disturb the patient. After all, I am too tired to say anything. I won't make a noise." I said and the nurse looked a bit troubled.

"I am sorry miss but you aren't allowed. The patient in the ward needs to take a rest and I can't allow any visitors till 12 hours. Please don't make it difficult for any of us." And with that, the nurse turned her back to me as she walked out of the reception and walked the opposite way.

With a sigh, I went back to the bench and sat on the cold-metal bench. With my elbow on my knees, I took a deep breath as I was lost in my thoughts.

"Jessica!" I raised my head in a familiar voice and Luke was standing infront of me.

"Why, how are you here?" I asked, surprised, as he stood infront of my eyes, in real life.

"Are you ok?" He approached me with a gentle and concerned look on his face and I smiled, nodding my head.

"I am fine. What are you doing here?" I asked him again.

"I heard Damon was in trouble after you left. I thought I could give you some company. Am I not allowed?" I let out a light laugh and shook my head.

"Of course, you're allowed. What are you talking about?" I sat with a forced smile lingering on my lips.

Before I could take a seat, he grabbed my elbows and I looked up at him in question.

"Would you like to take a walk with me?" He offered and I couldn't bring it to myself to reject him.

After all, the bodyguards were already in their positions, outside the ward and some inspecting the situation inside ever since Damon was brought to this hospital.

I sighed and stood up as I took Luke's hand and followed him out of the hospital through the same stairs, I took up here.

"For me, taking a walk helps alot to get my mind off stuff. I don't know if it will work on you too but I just wanted you to give it a try." He said as we got out of the hospital and walked towards the hospital garden a few feet away.

"Not gonna lie but walking really helps when you're stressed or have so many thoughts running through your head." I agreed as I recalled the times, I used to take a walk alone to empty my mind.

"Mhm." And just like that, both of us strolled around the garden in silence, not an uncomfortable one but a really comforting one instead.

We've come to a fountain in the middle of the garden after strolling around for a while and both of us just stood there, in our own world, understanding each other even though we hadn't uttered a word.

"Is he your only relative left?" He broke the silence and I replied with a nod.

"I heard from Xavier that Damon had 12 hours of surgery to get three bullets out from his shoulder, abdomen and waist. Thankfully the bullets didn't pierce through the vital organs but he's in constant danger and risk from huge blood loss during surgery." Luke explained and it only added more to my worry.

She didn't even realize she was crying until she was turned around and hugged by Luke. Her face was hidden from everyone in Luke's large and broad chest.

She could feel his muscles underneath but that was the least of her concern as she broke down and burst out crying from holding in for too long.

She might be a donna and a member of mafia but she's a human being nonetheless. Also, the fact that the only relative she's left might leave her soon didn't help at all.

Just like that, she cried her eyes out, in the arms of the man she fell in love with. Luke on the other hand, rubbed her back and whispered sweet nothings to her, which did a great job in calming Jess down.

After a few minutes, Jess raised her head from Luke's chest and wiped her tears from the tissue Luke offered her.

"I guess you need to take some rest too. I told Xaiver to make sure Fiona and Kate get some sleep too. Don't worry too much about it. I am sure Damon is strong enough to pull through this. He's been the don of a mafia for years after all." His sentence calmed my racing thoughts a bit but it wasn't convincing enough for me to stop worrying about him completely.

"Fine. Let's go." I walked upstairs to talk to Xaiver who was guarding the room. I told him that I would be leaving and call me when Damon wakes up.

I walked towards the reception again and the nurse was flipping through the page of files.

"Hello, I was just wondering when the patient in VIP room 3 will wake up." I asked and the nurse asked me to wait a minute as she was looking around to find the right booklet.

"The patient has passed a major crisis and he's under recuperation. The patient will wake up in a week maximum and the visitors are only allowed after 12 hours." She read out the lines written on the file and I thanked her before leaving.

While coming down, I decided to take the stairs again but Luke went against it and we were arguing about me going down on my own or taking the elevator when Luke hoisted me up in his arms and walked down the stairs with me in his arms.

It kinda felt good to be in his arms honestly because my legs were wobbly from all the things that happened today.

The car was already waiting for me and it led me to my own, secret mansion which wasn't very far from the headquarters.

I purchase the two-stories mansion a few days after reaching Italy after hard training in the forest.

I opened the gate of the mansion and walked inside with Luke who was carrying his suitcase. I left in a hurry that I didn't pack anything.

Thankfully, the mansion was clean and soon after, a couple maids came inside the room, most probably from the headquarters.

I showed Luke around and gave him a room he could sleep in. I was content when he liked the room and started unpacking his suitcase.

After showering and all, I opened my laptop to do my work but I failed to focus on the matter at hand. I had no choice but to go to sleep.

I lay on my bed in my comfortable PJ's but I still couldn't sleep even being under such soft and amazing pillows and blankets.

I was tossing and turning when a knock was heard. I gave permission for the person to enter and Luke went inside with a tray in his hand.

Soon, my room smelt like heaven and Luke offered to feed me but I refused and said I would eat myself. The food was amazingly delicious and I finished all of it in the blink of an eye.

"How's it?" Luke asked amused and I tried to reply through my stuffed mouth but failed.

"It's delicious!" I exclaimed after swallowing the food in my mouth.

"As it should." I looked at him with one of my eyebrows raised and he smirked.

"I made dinner for us." My spoon fell from my grip and my mouth opened when he said it.

Luke never seemed like a person who would lower his dignity and ego just to make dinner for the land lord. I was more than shocked that he made dinner for us and the food tasted like heaven.

"Now you better go to sleep. Good night." Luke said as he picked up the tray to walk out of the room.

"I can't sleep." I whispered and Luke didn't even lower himself to listen to me well.

"Do you like cuddles?" He asked with a small smile playing on his lips and I started to grin like crazy.

"Of course, I love cuddles!" I exclaimed and went inside the bed sheet.

Luke went out with the tray and walked inside soon later. He lifted the blanket and laid right beside me who just laid there, awkward.

"I will sleep with you. Don't worry. Good night sweety." He said as he got into the bed and cuddled me. I sighed in contention when he started to massage my head and I didn't even realize I fell asleep in his arms until the very next day.
