Chapter 25 Kissed

"Has she regained her consciousness after a minute?"

"Obviously not. That's why I called you here." Alister growled back at the doctor's comment.

The doctor nervously looked at the unconscious girl laying in the barely affordable silk bed. He had never met the Don personally before, but like everyone else in the world he had heard plenty of the stories.

Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think he would get to see him up close. Not that he wanted to.

Even though he worked for the estate,Alister never needed a doctor before.

In fact, as soon as he got the call, he was already quivering was in fear. Alister was a cold blooded killer and an trained on at that. If someone had managed to get even a scratch on him, it was not good news.

But instead of seeing Alister's bloody form aching with agony as he expected to , an unconscious girl was laying in one of his beds.

"Her breathing seems to be normal and I see no prior damages caused by the fainting." The doctor answered anxiously, hoping he didn't sound too unprofessional or frightened at the presence of the most feared man in the world.

Even though no injuries occurred because of the fainting, the doctor instantly spotted the severe bruises on the girl's almost starved body.

His thoughts immediately went to abuse and he couldn't help but feel sympathy for her. The most obvious answer to the scars would be Alister, but he knew better than to question him. He just hoped the girl didn't pass out from the pain.

"Sir?" He asked nervously while Alister gently placed a stray strand of the girl's hair behind her ear.

"W-what exactly caused her to faint?"

"Panic attack."He answered candidly never once taking his eyes off of Kamala.

" Fainting from panic attacks is very unlikely and only appears in the worst conditions. Are you s-sure it was a panic attack?" The doctor replied quietly, scared to think that he would be the one question the Don.

"Isn't it your job to know that?" Alister's menacing tone took over the conversation and the doctor visibly gulped.

"R-right sir. I apologize. W-we can run some tests to see if any internal damage was caused. If it i-is a p-panic attack, we can organize a counseling session if that is what you w-want. T-that way we can know if we have to p-put her on some medication."

Alister lightly nodded.

"When will she wake up?"

"In a few minutes, I presume."

"What was so important?" Alister's threatening voice made every man in the room fearfully snap their gaze in his direction.

Alister's power spoke for itself as the danger wreaked from his very presence.

Everyone in the meeting room respectfully lowered their heads. They wouldn't want to test Alister on a normal day, much less this one where he looked like he would most happily snap all their necks.

And Alister would happily do that. He wanted to stay by Kamala's side until she woke up but his wishes were interrupted by Drakul calling and claiming an urgent matter was on their hands.

Furiously, he left the room but not before threatening the poor doctor from keeping her from harm and leaving him there, making him wonder how exactly he got stuck playing the nanny to an unknown girl who seemed to be more than important to the man who supposedly didn't care about anyone.

"We're so sorry to bother you boss, but we have gotten intel that the Siberian mafia was planning an attack." Drakul explained.

Alister's eyes suddenly grew with excitement and for a second he forgot about Kamala.

But only for a second.

His rage quickly rushed back, however this time playing to his benefit as he seemed even more keen to destroy his enemies.

"When are we expecting them?"

"We had sent a rat into their whereabouts. He informed us that it is planned to take place in about a month." Drakul said worriedly, knowing that no one could stop Alister when it came to killing or blood lust.

It was no secret that everyone in his inner circle and the world thought that he was a monster. Maybe he was, but Alister couldn't care less. There was a time in his life when he did feel guilty for enjoying their torment but all those thoughts seemed to vanish over time.

"How are we doing in numbers?"

"From what we know, the odds are definitely in our favor, but the rat had warned us that they have been discussing a secret strategy." Lord Tate, a scrawny man in charge of the warriors replied. As one of Alister's most trusted informants, he held a certain feeling of pride whenever he stood in his presence, but even he wanted to dash out as soon as possible when Alister was in one of his moods.

"Is that all he knows?" Alister asked impatiently, wanting to get back to Kamala as soon as possible.

"He says he overheard Sergei's underboss telling one of the Capos that they had gathered new information on how to get to you." Drakul explained, carefully analyzing every detail on Alister's seemingly calm face.

Alister nodded and looked back at his Consigliere.

"Tell him to dig deeper. Whatever he thinks he has on me is the only thing standing in the way of them being absolutely massacred in the war."

"What do you think they found out?" One of the few men spoke from the back of the room.

"I don't know but one thing is certain. We have a mole in the house."

As soon as Kamala opened her eyes, she noticed that she had once again not awoken in her room.

The memories hit her back as a sledgehammer and she quickly got up to check if Cullen was back.

Fortunately, the only eyes that had greeted her were the warm grey ones of the doctor.

"You're awake!" He blurted out in a panicky state and ran to her side to help her get up properly.

He lifted her by the lower part of her back until she casually sat upright.

It didn't take long for Kamala to recognize the room she was being held at.

After all, she had to sweep through every little detail at this very place.

She looked around dazed, trying to figure out how she got from the cold floor to the cozy bed.

"W-what's going on?"

"Before I answer do you feel any internal or external pain?" The doctor rushed knowing if he would not get this right Alister would kill him on the spot.

"W-what? I d-don't-" Kamala mumbled, her mind still not entirely awake and trying to process the information.

"Do you remember your name?" The doctor pressured further.

"I-yes. Uh, Kamala." She answered timidly.

"Good, and do you-"

"You're awake." An intimidating voice called out from the edge of the door.

Alister took a few steps forward, not stopping until he was face to face with the alarmed girl.

A moment had passed as they silently stared into the other's eyes. His to hers, both reminiscing about the last time they saw each other.

"I-Im going to step outside." The doctor awkwardly shuffled away to another room to not interrupt what seemed like a very private moment.

"How are you?" Alister asked breaking the tension. His face may have held his usual calm and cold expression, but his eyes wore certain specks of worry.

Kamala looked down on her lap trying to escape the intense blue gems that seemed targeted her way.

"I-I'm fine." She mumbled averting her gaze.

Another moment had passed with both people being met with silence as neither of them knew what to say.

"I-Im sorry." Kamala admitted, this time breaking the silence herself.

Alister's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, not knowing what in the world Kamala would be apologizing for.

"I-I didn't mean to faint again and I k-know I said I wouldn't d-do that again a-and I-"

"You have nothing to apologize for." He cut her off, not understanding how she even felt the need to ask for forgiveness.

"It wasn't your fault."

Kamala gently nodded but Alister could still see the shame in her eyes.

Without thinking, he placed a hand over hers.

She instantly bolted up but strangely didn't pull away. Instead she looked up at Alister, who was still slowly comprehending what he had just done, and got lost in his eyes.

The moment seemed to last forever, yet it wasn't awkward like the other time. For the first time in a very long time, Kamala felt peaceful. In that moment, she didn't think about Cullen or Warwick or even her maid status. Right there, she was just a normal girl and Alister was just a normal guy. She was getting more and more enhanced in his deep ocean eyes.

She wasn't the only one. Alister looked at the confused and alarmed girl who was staring at him with her wide eyes. He couldn't understand what she has been doing to him. He couldn't shut her out like he did with everyone else. Somehow she kept coming back and he couldn't help but want her to. Like a diamond in the rough, she was the light in his darkness. He didn't even know her that long and he already knew that she was unlike anyone in his life. In that moment, all he knew was that he wanted a taste. A taste of her.

And then before she even knew it, his lips locked against hers.
