He could not see the red on the face of the man before him. The darkness of the night was a foreign concept to him. Unlike the creature who could clearly see every detail on his face, he could hardly see.
"Really? Then I shall await your attendance." The vampire king commented. Truthfully if he had a tail it would be wagging even if he held in his happiness.
A human was talking to him. A human who didn't know what he had done. The human believed him. The human wasn't scared and he could feel it.
The ravennette didn't question him on his request, however. Was this simply his nature to be too trusting? Believing in people too much could lead to misfortune, he knew by heart and experience.
But this made him happy still, nonetheless. "Why do you desire to learn about nature?" He tried to ask in a none threatening way.
He could see the little way the boy laughed and tried to cover it with a hand. An oddly satisfying gesture. "I wanted to learn horticulture." He claimed.
Leaning on the railing, he began to explain. "My village grows many plants, and needs to observe." He started.
"Humans test if things are poisonous through letting it touch the skin to see for rash. However getting knowledge ahead of time would be the best just in case to prevent disasters."
"Gardening is key for survival. We hunt fish, birds, and grow crops." He finished as the vampire hummed in response.
Humanity had devolved. He remembered watching humans try to thrive. He had always admired their desire to survive and their cute little habits.
The way the boy talked brought back memories. How many centuries since his last genuine talk? No, not false lies and sweet words, a real conversation.
Feeling cold he shivered ever so slightly, but Rael was curious. "And you? Do vampires like plants?" He had asked.
He unexpectedly found himself opening up, to a cold vampire, no less. The man before him was quite a curiosity.
"Plants are quite beautiful. Their thorns are something I admire." He replied while the boy pondered in response.
He looked up to the moon. "Perhaps they are beautiful for their thorns… But I think they're beautiful because they're resilient. Put in the hard work of raising them too, and they'll greet you with a sweet surprise."
He referenced harvest time. Hard work to raise but delicious in a soup or a snack. The king however interpreted it differently.
The thorns of a flower shielded them, a protection and way of saying stay away. They at least put up a fight instead of being beautiful and plucked. However, hard with… raising a flower was something he did not consider.
Perhaps if he were a flower of thorns life would be different. He'd always thought that. But maybe if a flower thrived with just a single bit of interaction and were cared for, he would be different.
A soiled flower, or a beautiful bloom. He would be the former and the small boy the latter. "Ah, they are also pretty as decoration. I love daffodils."
He had always found the pure white flowers pretty. Raphaēl then felt an incredible shiver down his spine. "Daffodils?" The vampire asked before turning away and walking off.
He thought he did something wrong, but he heard a small voice saying to go to bed before morning came and he was overly sleepy. As he left, the other roommate had an extremely flustered face.
"Is he trying to kill me?" He murmured to himself before getting into his coffin. A daffodil.. perhaps the future really was changing and this was a sign to be more forgiving.
More forgiving not on others but rather himself. How many centuries past? Shaking his head he calmed his heart going to sleep, taking into deep sleep.
Or so he thought deep sleep. "Bitch." A voice rang out as his door burst open. "You realise this is no time to fucking sleep? There's a monster amongst us." He growled.
The person he least expected. The one who always ruined his mood the last century and for who knows how long more.
With a glare he ripped open the lid and growled. "Ever uncomfortable. Lich king has awakened, no, this is far worse." He punched the wall nearly breaking a painting.
Ah, so he noticed? "If the human looks him in the eye, he would likely crumble." He sighed crossing his legs and taking a seat on a nightstand.
A barren room. Completely white that would make anyone crazy. One small place to sleep, a nightstand, and a table with two chairs and spider lilies.
Everything was dizzying. A normal person would be miserable. Actually, this room annoyed the taller male so much from the fact the blue eyed man probably believed he should be miserable.
Annoying. No more complaining he thought as he focused, "The human might submit." He huffed. A human with monsters in practice sounded harmless until you realised the sheer power they welt.
There was a reason other beings stayed in hiding, an extremely good reason. "Is it as I feared?" The elegant man asked, haste fully.
So the king did notice. "Frinz. You understand you shouldn't get attached because he likely will pass, right?"
He didn't need to be told. Everything which made him happy would eventually disappear, but maybe just this once, "Callistus. Do me a favour and stop rubbing your mouth." He spat.
He didn't want to admit defeat. "The human knows to call on me when things go rogue."
The being he feared. Not for himself but the human. The veil symbolised a very special kind of boy, one lost to records most likely even amongst the zombies and of undeads.
"Hide your children, hide your men. The throne will fall under his gaze as his liquid tears creates a haze. See beyond the mirror, afraid he draws nearer. For this place is a no man's land, one not even a monster may withstand." The children would quote.
With a roll of his eyes the blue haired man stretched. "You know that was an understatement. That creature physically kidnaps children and forces them into friendships of a lich." He hissed annoyed. Callistus wondered whether Frinz was toying with him.
A monster who had the ability to mimic a loved one. As he cries liquid tears he draws people near. The darker the liquid the more powerful.
A nearly extinct species. No. An extinct species. The headmaster would not miss the chance but they were eliminated for the good. One of the reasons humans had decreased were due to them sucking away their sanity and hope due to their weak and frail mindset.
"Vampires do not worry about being drained." Frinz replied as they both knew he should know that well. They couldn't physically do anything unless there was an attack.
This was worse. "No is your answer." Callistus had replied without hearing him out.
"Please. Keep an eye on him, and I will kill you. So long as you fulfill your role and live out the rest of your days until your ring saps, you may rest assured my hands will finish you." The king said turning around.
That was not a threat. Nor was that jest. That was the truth. Something the boy had always want. "Promise?" He replied, hoping that this time he really would say the truth.
The king created him and would destroy him. No. He would destroy his species. Almost gone, regardless, without him they would suffer, and he knew that but lost desire.
Feeding off humans and many, stealing their vitality. His fangs felt overwhelming thirst each time he sunk into the necks of others, stealing their future.
"This was your fault for my birth.", the boy said lifting his head as the moonlight capture his pained expression perfectly. "You may not die like a coward before my species falls, and you will eliminate us, and you will outlive me for all of my guilt."
