As he made his way to the backyard he was practicaly virbrating in excitment. After all this would be his first real step to becoming strong! Sure learning psychic powers was awesome but it wasn't immediatly useful and the gravity room would take a while to show any quantifiable results. Plus even if his future was a mage, he was a warrior at heart!
In his past life he always wanted to participate in bloody melee combat, but knew their wouldn't really be a point in the end. His desire to fight was so serious, that the way he wished to die was a bloody battle against an equally skilled foe, were they both kill each other in the end.
Insane? Almost certainly, but it seemed that wish never got the chance to come to fruition in his last life. It shouldn't in this life either because Sabrina had said that as long as his psychic energy was sufficently strong it would extend his life. Of course if he could avoid his death he would want to, and to him, that just sounded like another reason to become the best.
As all of this was running through his head as he finally arrived at the backyard that connected to the woods. And standing in the middle of the field was a scyther, in all its green glory. He had seen a few pokemon since his mother's ninetales, she would take him on walks throughout the city every once in a while and he could often see pidove with a rare pidgey every once in a while. He even saw a meowth scavenging in a trash can once. The cities seemed remarkebly wild pokemon free, but he had a feeling that could partly be because his mother was taking him through the nice parts of the town.
Scyther though was incomparble to those few wild pokemon, even his mother's partner couldn't compare. It stood tall, around 7 feet tall he would say, with his sharp blades giving off an aura he could almost feel. Actually he could feel it not just from the blades but from the whole pokemon. It gave off an oppressive aura that almost seemed to press down on him. But as quickly as it was there it was gone.
He didn't really know what to do at this point. Dad had said it would want to test him but he hoped the scyther didn't want him to fight it. As he stood there waiting the scyther finally made its move. It stood there, held its arm up, and swung it down, releasing a "Scy!" along the way.
As he stood there in confusion scyther made the motion once more while pointing to the big scythe that he had brought a long with him. He soon got the point and held the scythe up and brought it down, trying his best to replicate scyther's motion. He seemed to be satisfied, nodding, than walking back off into the woods?
In his confusion it was Sabrina who spoke next, for the first time at any of his birthday parties.
"The scyther was testing your passion for the scythe. Had you not truly wished to learn the scythe he would not have accepted you."
"Sabrina is right. The reason that scyther is still a scyther at all is because he did not wish to lose his scythes by evolving into a scizzor or kleavor. Part of the reason he went off to isolate in the woods was he felt partially responsible for my friend, his partners death, due to not evolving. Anyway, scyther will be meeting you here every day from one to two. Even if you do light exercise with scyther for now that should be all your body can handle."
And so in the next couple of weeks he meet with scyther every day. They didn't do a whole lot at first, due to his young body. It was mostly scyther showing off, and also guiding him in the footwork he would need to do in the future. He woukd also have me move my arms in katas of sorts but without the weapons, to reduce strain, just to get used to the motions.
Allthough in his last life scythes may have been impractical weapons, in this life scyther sure made them look like killing machines. When scyther would gift him with a set of full speed motions he could already imagine the horror scyther would have on a battlefield, and seeing it all, his eyes couldn't but sparkle in glee.
Scyther also seemed to enjoy that he was a fast study even with the limited training he did. And why wouldn't he be, after all he hadn't stopped his psychic training at all and had even already broken through to the solid core stage.
Flashback
One Year, Six Months Ago
It was finally time. It had been two years since he had first turned his gas into a liquid, and it was finally time to turn his liquid into a solid. Sabrina was here this time just to make sure nothing went wrong.
As he flicked that mental switch the same thing happened as last time. Compression into a small solid grain then explosion into what seemed like a rolling sand dune throughout his core. He had suspected it to end up a solid block, but it seemed like the movement was essential to psychic energy, and in that case plenty of small sand grains made sense.
"Very good. Cycle one solid stage is a realm that normal people only achieve late in their life when they are elderly. When you next break into cycle two you shall truly step into the realms of supernatural. You shall continue to condense enrrgy until you are seven years old, at that point you will be able to break through."
"Why seven?"
"That is the alliance stipulated age that you are allowed to get a pokemon, and to enter cycle two you have to break your psychic core and let your psychic energy fill up your mind. To do this you will need a psychic partner pokemon."
"Can I not get one sooner?"
"No, in fact you are lucky that you are getting a pokemon so early at all. The age civilians are allowed to first recieve pokemon at is 16. I myself only received my partner by 12. The only reason you can recieve yours so early is that the alliance stipulates you as a major supporting family."
"You have a pokemon! Can I see it!"
"No."
And with that disapointment she teleported away. She certainly gave him a lot to think about, but the most exciting thing was of course recieving his own pokemon! Even if it felt so far into the future he knew it would pass by in the blink of an eye.
End Flashback
And pass by quick it did. He continued learning from scyther, with the exercises getting slightly more strenous every so often. He continued condensing his psychic energy, and Sabrina continued teaching him. One of the major events of this time happened once again on his birthday. Although this time it wasn't as big as the last. He simply asked for access to the internet.
This may not seem like a big deal but his parents had forbidden him from going onto the internet in the past. Undestandble considering all the things on their that young kids shouldn't see. It seemed as though that his magical birthday powers struck once again as they finally relented and let him browse the internet.
And so from five onwards when he wasn't meditating or training with scyther, he was in his room under the increased gravity, searching the world wide web. On what you may be asking. Why on pokemon of course! He searched all manner of things. What was best to feed pokemon, how to care for them, all the best tips and tricks out there by high level trainers. He also learned a couple of important pieces of info.
First of all was that in this world there was no magic talent improving or time saving fairy grass. Your pokemon was as talented as it was when it was born and that was that. Pokemon ranks were divided into, Newborn, novice, ordinary, intermediate, advanced, elite, profesional, master, quasi elite 4, elite 4, quasi champion, champion, quasi god, 3/2/1 god.
The last god levels were speculation, based off of the brief shows of strength some legenderies had shown. But based on this ranking humans had come up with a talent ranking for pokemon going white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Each color represented two ranks.
This didn't mean pokemon didn't get stuck inbetween ranks though. It was speculated that this happened due to insuffecient training and care in the early stages. There was a solution though. Certain materials existed to help break through a rank a pokemon was stuck at that it should normally be able to pass through. Their were a few quasi god pokemon around the world and Cynthia's Garchomp was one of them. Even though it was speculated to have the talent to become a third level god it seemed there simply wasn't enough resources.
The second important thing he learned was that every pokemon had three evolutions and it wasn't uncommon for pokemon to have a type that was different than the majority of its species, or have an ability that wouldn't be expected. For example in this universe scyther actually had a baby form named, preyid.
He of course wouldn't accept anything less than the most talented pokemon but it seemed that might be a harder find than he had thought. Of course he would say one of the main things he focused on was info about training. Sabrina had him covered about what psychic types liked but when it came to raising them she said he should figure it out himself. But while looking into it he noticed a few important things.
First was the fact that mastering moves seemed to have a big affect that a lot of people ignored. You see when certain moves were mastered some of its effects become permenant. For example protect. After mastery it grants a certain amount of physical and special damage reduction that is permenant. Isn't that insane!
Only problem was is that it is often ignored for a couple reasons. One was that it scaled off talent so a talented blue level pokemon would only give about a 1% increase. This may seem great, after all pokemon will eventually end up mastering a move if they use it for long enough right? Well yes, but the problem was that you had to master the move at every stage of your evolution, that you could learn it, for the bonus to take effect. This was a problem when people often fought in tournaments and one of the best ways for a turn around was evolution.
Because of these downsides move mastery was often ignored, not by everybody, but the vast majority of people for sure.
The other thing he noticed was that you could actualy resist harming stat changes. The affects of stat changes seemed to be greatly reduced compared to the games, with a third evolution pokemon only able to increase or decrease stats by around 10 percent for what was normally a whole 50 percent. But as pokemon trained they could also be trained to resist stat changes. Not by a whole lot but a third evolution pokemon was able to resist at most 16 percent of a stat change. This may seem impressive untill you realize thats just 16 percent of ten making the stat change still 8.4 percent.
16 percent may seem a weird number but it was because you could train to resist one percent of stat change in your first evolution, five in your second, and ten in your third.
Not only that but you could also train to resist ceartain energy types by up to 11% in a third evolution. This certainly gave him a lot to train in the future, but he would do it for perfection.
For his sixth birthday he had thought to ask for a hand to hand combat combat instructor but scyther seemed to some how sense it and managed to explain that he could use his arms as scythes and follow his footwork if he had to. It seemed ridiculous but he truly wanted to follow along with scythers teaching.
So, that is how his days continued, his training with scyther was slowly ramping up, Sabrina was being more demanding, and he was constantly studying on the internet. Before he knew it, he was six years and six months old, sitting in his gravity room set at 1.7X and he finally felt like he could no longer condense his core.
April Sylph POV
MC Six Months of Age
She had been worried about her son for a while now. He always seemd distant and somewhat detached. No matter how she tried to play with him he always seemed disintrested. When Sabrina first told her she should expect more changes it made her even sadder. She had heard the horror stories of parents being ignored and dispised by their children who were psychics and she was worried the same would happen to her. Some small condolences where at least that even after Sabrina's warning it seemed nothing changed. Still she could only hope her son would love her, as she loved him.
MC Two Years of Age
It was her son's birthday today and she hoped he enjoyed her gift. As Jasmine came out and he ran over to pet her, it brought a smile to her face seeing the true joy in his eyes. For the first time when he said "Love you, mom." she knew he meant it, even if he hadn't realized.
MC Three Years of Age
When she had brought him over to a friends house to meet with her friends son, she was hoping Daniel would be able to make a friend. She didn't know what she was thinking at the time. Her son put up with her, and played with her, and let her pamper him, because she was his mother, even if he could tell he had fun sometimes and tried to hide it. But here, at a strangers, with some random kid, her son didn't care at all. Her son sat there with his eyes closed as little Jamie babbled at him. When he had asked for no more playdates she couldn't bring it to herself to disagree.
MC Age Four Years
When her son had first denied going to school she was furious. After all school was where some of the most important formative years of your life happened. Just as she about to finalize the papers though, Sabrina had managed to talk some sense into her. Her son would most likely be astrocized in school due to his anti social behavior. It would most likely lead to him being bullied, and although he would probaly win any fights due to his natural psychic advantages, the winner of a fight always seemed the most suspicious. Plus he would be so far ahead due to his smarts he would either have to move up grades, where he might not be able to win the fights, or stay in the lower grades and waste time. Sabrina was once again correct.
Her sons fourth birthday was certainly a big afair, what with him wanting weapons training and everything, but she just assumed it was a boy thing. When he first saw his weapons though and ran over to give her and his father hugs, she could only think that this is what her family should be like.
MC Six Years Six Months
As she watched her son train with the scyther in the backyard she couldn't help but smile. Seeing him try to be so serious with his cute face was adorable. And as she watched him. she couldn't help but think that for all of the faults of herself and her son that she truly loved him.
