Lucas’s arms were tense and firm around me. He was still breathing heavily, his chest pressing against me with each inhale. He was trying to be calm for my sake, I knew it, but his emotions were finally showing.

I wrapped my arms around him and leaned my weight against him. My heart sank as I thought about the conversation I’d heard. It sounded like Xander wasn’t going to do anything at all.

I had thought Lucas wasn’t willing to act, but after seeing him throw the phone across the room, I knew he was just as upset as I was. He just didn’t want me to see it.

“I’m sorry, Sasha. I shouldn’t have lost my temper like that.”

“It’s okay, Lucas. You’re upset. That’s normal in a situation like this. I’m glad you finally let me see your emotions.” I tipped my head up and looked deeply into Lucas’s eyes.

I could see all his chaotic emotions there–anger, frustration, grief, upset. I put my hand against his cheek.
