Chapter 16: Bait and Hook

“What the f*ck was that?” Gwynfor asks, pinning Selmas against the wall.

The three of them had finally managed to leave Amira’s table, saying that they had already sought shelter elsewhere, and no, it was fine, they would be leaving early the next morning, and yes, they would pass on Amira’s thanks to Chieftain Izalia. They made it through the various pleasantries—which were only mildly pleasant; Hundyr in particular did not seem very inclined toward politeness, and his father still hadn’t spoken by the time they left—and then made it out into the night, which is when Gwynfor immediately punched Selmas in the gut and rammed his back up against the wall so that he would be able to feel all of her fury, which Selmas was having no trouble imagining.

“Hey,” Byrin protests, “Don’t—”

“Shut up, Rin-an,” Gwynfor growls. “You got me engaged? To Hundyr?”

“I thought you already were,” Selmas says innocently, and Gwnyfor gapes.
