Selmas is pretty sure that he’s forgotten how to form complete sentences. “You… what?”

Aisling closes her hand, and the fire goes out. “We—Jigen and I—never meant to get involved, really. Nutuk’s beliefs don’t allow for violence. “Who is Elyhandros?” Selmas asks.

“The king of Mordyn,” Aisling says. “He’s the one who approached each of the clans, convinced them to band together to fight. And Jigen and I… well, we’re not… we weren’t ready to becomes leaders yet. We still aren’t. We were desperate.”
