Paying The Family A Visit

After the boys left the Dean's office, they strolled to the cafeteria to eat. While they were eating, a boy approached them and stood before Max, he had a disdainful look on his face as he stared at Max.

Max upon seeing him, sighed and dropped his spoon. "What do you want?" He coldly asked.

"Tsk! You are already too arrogant for your age, Max. Just because you defeated some monsters doesn't mean that you are wonderful, the fact remains that you are a waste to the family," the boy taunted as he smirked.

Max ignored the boy and didn't say a word. He picked up the spoon and continued to eat, this, of course, got the boy upset that he slapped his hand on the table causing the whole students to turn their attention on them.

"What do you take me for?" The boy asked angrily. "I'm talking to you! You dare not ignore me." Though he was angry, he could not help but get confused.

"Daniel, what the hell do you want? Your presence makes me want to puke," Max replied calmly. Daniel's face turned red in anger, he turned around and he could swear that the other students heard what Max said, loud and clear. Zheren on his part could not help but chuckle lightly while covering his mouth.

"Y—" Daniel tried to talk but just as he opened his mouth to speak, Max shot him a glare and at that instant, he felt a sudden wave of fear cloud him. He glared at Max intently as if trying to pry into his soul. After a while, he gritted his teeth and clenched his fist as he spoke. "Father wants to see you tonight!" With that being said, he walked away not wanting to spend a second there.

Max upon hearing what Daniel said dropped the spoon with a loud noise, he began to sweat and shake uncontrollably.

"Max, what's wrong with you? Why are you shaking?" Zheren who saw what was happening to his friend could not help but ask. He stood up and moved to Max, holding him as if trying to stop him from shaking but he didn't stop. "Can you stop shaking and tell me what is wrong with you? You don't expect to know what's wrong when you aren't saying anything."

Max clenched his fist for some time, soon he stopped sweating and then breathed in and out before finally, he was able to calm down. He turned to Zheren who had a worried look on his face and grinned lightly. "It's nothing, let's go back," he said and stood up as if nothing had happened.

"Bu—"

"No buts!" Max said, not allowing Zheren to talk further. He grabbed the boy's wrist and dragged him up. "Let's go, class is starting anytime soon."

The duo left the cafeteria and went back to their dorm after which they prepared and went to class. Luckily, they were a minute early the time or else they would have been locked outside the class till all the lectures are finished.

As they sat down, Max looked around and saw Lizzy who was also staring back at him. So many thoughts wandered through his mind as he stared at her.

'System, how many levels of demons are there?' He asked inwardly, then the screen appeared before his face.

'Of course, I know that I need to work hard' Max replied calmly. 'By the way, what level is Boone?'

"So much power for an apprentice level demon" He mumbled with a sigh.

"What apprentice-level demon?" Zheren who heard what Max said asked.

"You won't understand," Max said and looked away.

Zheren was about to say something when the teacher came in, he sighed and faced the man.

They spent hours listening to the man's usual rants and blabs which ended up in the evening. Everyone went back to their dorms except for three boys who were walking toward the school gate. No one spoke to each other until they got to the main road where they would board a taxi.

"Hey, when you get home, you better respect yourself and don't try to act arrogantly or else... Anyway, you should be aware of what will happen to you if you misbehave," Daniel said, sounding like a reminder.

Max ignored him and stopped a taxi, he told Zheren to enter after which he followed immediately. Daniel tried to enter the taxi but Max abruptly closed the door and told the driver to drive off.

"Bastard!" Daniel yelled as the car sped off, his fist clenched in anger while his chest kept rising and falling. "Just you wait! I'll deal with you," he said and waved for another cab.

Meanwhile, in the car Max and Zheren boarded, no one spoke a word for a long time before Zheren decided to say something. "Your father... how strict is he?" He asked.

"He's not my father," replied Max in a cold tone, he shot Zheren a glare before looking away. "I've long disowned that man who never took me as his child, same with his wife. So, you can call me an orphan, I'll gladly answer the name." There were pains in his heart as he spoke. Tears filled his eyes but none dared to drop, if he was to calculate, today will be one year he last saw them. The day he nearly died was the day he regretted ever becoming their child, to him, it was the biggest mistake heaven made concerning his life.

Throughout his childhood, he never felt the love of a family, he never had the love of a mother, worst of it all, they called him a waste, a mistake! All these months he had been in school suffering in the hands of students and teachers, where were they? What did they do for him? Nothing! It was their wish for him to die in the hands of strangers. Now, who knows why they want to see him, maybe to punish him or worst of it all kill him.

"Whatever happens, I'll be right behind you, Max," Zheren said. He placed his hand on Max's shoulder and patted him lightly, he knew nothing about what his family had done to him but by mere looking at his face, he was certain that tonight's visit wouldn't end well. He sighed and took away his hand, soon the car stopped before a black gate. Max stepped out of the car and stared at the gate, he was reluctant to go in but after Zheren gave him a signal, he breathed out and pushed open the gate.
