Chapter 23: The North

The black hound stood a few feet from them and Lakis slowly approached it. It did not move, it just stood still as a statute gazing back at him. He slowly stretched out his hand to touch it, when the hound suddenly leapt upon him with a mighty growl and bark.

Lakis was pinned to the floor with the hound on top of him. Cassandra squealed and rushed over waving her hands. She pointed the scepter at the hound’s face and it immediately ceased its growls and barks and stood completely still.

“Get off him!” she yelled, and watched in amazement as the hound slowly crawled off of Lakis and bowed it’s head. Finally, when Lakis stood up, she pulled the scepter back and the hound raised its head once more. She wondered why the hound seemed to like her so much, and not Laskis.
