Casandra gazed down in astonishment at the sudden appearance of a beautifully plumage bird of about two feet in height. It stood there on the ground and Casandra was amazed at the resemblance it held to the bird in the painting.
“Hello,” she whispered, stroking the small bird gently and it did not fly away. “What is your name?”
It looked back at her with piercing eyes and flew upwards and perched upon the stone of an outcropping of rock. It cocked its head to either side as if analyzing her and Lakis. The bird seemed to be concerned when it saw Lakis and quickly turned its eyes back to Casandra.
“None of the animals seem to like you very much!” Cassandra declared jokingly to Lakis, who only looked back at her in annoyance.
Suddenly, she caught her breath in her throat as she gasped. She looked up at the bird and then back over to Lakis and then back to the bird again.
