Chapter 8

"Caramel please" I ordered, Becca and I were out for some Ice cream and to catch up since we didn't talk much these past days. It was Thursday so we skipped ASP. Becca ordered Dark Chocolate, we walked in the streets for some minutes in silence enjoying our ice cream.

We were going to her place to have some girls night. I wanted to stay at hers tonight, but it was a school night so we postponed it for the weekend. I really miss Becca.

We sure talk at lunch and when we have the same class but we haven't been together for an unlimited time, you know not for just 45 minutes or an hour. She was licking on her ice cream, looking at the front.

"You know, I'm really hurt you haven't told me first about this Ryan guy" she said, glancing sideways at me. " I'm sorry Bec, I just thought of him as a friend at first and didn't think it was important and you weren't very well at the time so I didn't want to talk about myself when you were at a hard time, I wanted to be there for you, you know. But I'm sorry" I said.

Becca stopped walking and stared at me, I knew she forgave me already, I could see it through her glassy eyes. She hugged me close and murmured "I love you Sky" she sniffed. My heart warmed at her words. " I love you too, bestie." I hugged her tighter.

Becca is really strong. She is nice and loves her family and friends a lot. She is the kind of person that you wouldn't want to be on the bad side of. If you do something bad to her or the person she cares for, she pays you back double the amount, sooner or later.

I always thought it was silly, people thinking and believing that there is a happily ever after. I always thought that there is always a point in your life, that hole that will always stay empty, that will keep pulling you down. That darkest part in your life that you will never escape from no matter how much you try to hide it, no matter how many times you lie about it every day.

But there is a happily ever after.Even though there might be points in your life where you might break down, fall apart, it will pass because there is a happily ever after. Because that's the beauty of life. Maybe your life is someone else's happily ever after.

Maybe you are waiting for your happily ever after when it's already there. And maybe it's not.

Happily ever after exists because not everything is perfect. There is always that point, that hole that is missing, waiting to be filled and sometimes it's supposed to stay empty because that's the beauty of life, plain is boring.

But if you keep on waiting for that hole to fill and not see the other holes that are fully occupied, then the filled once too will start to melt and you wouldn't be able to stop it because you're still staring at that hole that's empty.

That's what most people do, they work harder and harder even after they get what they want. We had money problems after dad died, we couldn't afford the house we stayed in, we sold his car as Heath had told me.

We moved to a much smaller apartment and lived there for 2 years and learned in public schools. Mom's a lawyer and it's been hard for her since we were kids at that time.

After that though mom got promoted when she won a pretty hard case. She was offered jobs by a number of companies to work as their private/company lawyer.

She is pretty good at convincing. She does what she has aimed for. A lot of times I wished I could be like her when I grow up, strong, independent and kind women. I still want to be like her.

It's hard to be your children's role model and I admire that she has achieved that task without even realizing it. My mom and I are close.

I tell her a lot of things, but not everything. She is the most understanding person and I take her advice Very seriously. Keeping in mind a book I once read says "Mother's Always Right" which is so true.

But not affording things we usually did for a couple of years isn't the hole inside me. I don't know where the hole is, I can't locate where it lives but I can feel it.

I can feel it tugging on my jeans begging for attention, for me to sink my head in, to look deeper, for it to drown me like those people who keep staring at that hole their whole life.

I don't know it's source, I don't know where it came from or when it occurred. I just feel it inside me like it was in my past, like it was a time I passed. And that scares me. It scares me because I don't remember but feel it. It scares me because I'm not sure it belongs to me.

My eyes scan the park I've been sitting in for almost an hour. Children were running and playing with their friends, a couple of families having a picnic under the trees on this bright sunny day.

A guy sitting on a bench, his face covered by the book he's reading. Two girls around my age walking around licking their ice cream. Life seems so simple as you see those people, I hope it was but then, perhaps it would have been boring.

I haven't brought my phone or anything with me, not even money. I just went out with me, my thoughts and my clothes. I wanted to be by myself, think about some things and spend some time with Skylar.

It was Saturday, and the weather was so exciting.

I woke up earlier than usual so I had the chance to catch breakfast with mom. We talked about school, work, friends and life for sometime till she had to go so I decided to take a walk.

I left Leslie a note so she wouldn't panic when she wakes up all alone in the house.

I was going to Becca's this afternoon for some girls' night. Our girls night is not painting each other's nails or talking about boys, well sometimes it is but mostly we just whine.

We complain about everything to each other, talk about all the gossip in our school, hot celebrities, we watch movies and eat a lot of junk. We sometimes just lay in the bed and whisper about the things that are bothering us this days or crack stupid jokes and burst into laughter about it when its not even that funny.

I got up from the bench and started walking home, promising to come back soon.

When I reach home, I start to pack some clothes I need before Becca comes to pick me up. She was in a Salon getting her hair and nails done. I decided to take a bath since I still had a couple of hours before she comes.

After a long hot shower, I went downstairs to eat. Leslie was in her room doing an assignment when I called her to have some lunch with me.

"Sky, can we make something? I'm tired of the same old Pizza" she says as she makes her way to the kitchen and takes a seat in the booth.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. Pasta?" I suggest.

"Yesss" she grins, getting up to get the vegetables from the refrigerator. I started to boil water for the noodles.
