Chapter 1

When the thought of reincarnation crosses your mind you imagine it would be something extraordinary, bizarre, remarkable or particularly dramatic. Mine was to put it mildly... utterly boring. Boring and completely unexpected. Track-kun was not keen on waiting for me on the street and dropped in directly after I moved to Rome for university. Translated, a truck took a wrong turn and quickly collided with a building, or more precisely a flat, breaking through the ground floor exactly as I was about to open the front door. Lucky me, right? except I'm pretty sure I was crushed, heck I think parts of my stomach even squeezed into my lungs but I digress.

And now I find myself in a blank space facing a figure which could presumably be God or some deity ready to give me the final judgement of my life. I can't deny being a little frightened but also upset at the way things have turned out.

"So…are you God?" I decide to ask the question which has been rattling around in my head.

"Eh, so I have been called everywhere" replies the old man, placing a hand in his beard in contemplation before turning his gaze to me with a mixture of humour and pity "And you're dead…"

"Wow that's really insightful of you. Is it really so obvious because I am standing here in front of you? Or was it particularly funny to watch my death on air?

"Oh? Sarcastic now are we? Then again I can't hardly fault you since you have lost your life and it is normal to have such a reaction" He replies musing his thoughts. I snort at his comment. "but to answer your question, I never find joy in the death of people, nevertheless your death by some twist of fate had an almost comical touch considering how luck fluctuates."

"Well they say luck is blind but I guess it purposely wanted to avoid me at all costs" I sit cross legged trying to ponder his answer. Given that there is no furniture to sit on I have to make do with this, seriously how can God keep up with this?

It is blank and spacious as far as the eye can see and it seems to go on forever. I still can't believe it ended up like this. After years full of setbacks and obstacles, I had finally managed to get the money I needed to live decently and enjoy a university degree...it was no use breaking my back on books just to fit in and this is the price I get?

"So... what happens now?" I ask resigned and without a lot of expectations. Because honestly no one has ever come back to life to tell how reincarnation works so...

"Have you ever heard of RPGs?"

"Yes why do you ask?" I inquire and yet something seems to be off with the question. Also RPG? How does he even know about it?

A rather familiar sign of a faintly astral shaped shield suddenly appears on the ground.

"Oh no... you're not going to send me into the nasuverse, are you?" I ask with a slight sense of dread... after all, anything could happen in that universe with my already low level of luck.

"Maybe. Usually most deities like me send people randomly to other worlds to solve problems, it's been like that for thousands of years now, and you're the most recent death to show up before me, so turn the wheel ~"

"..." I'm not sure whether this god is attempting to mock me or downplay the situation, but I decide to ignore it in favour of turning the spheres on the circle which spin so fast they almost look like a ring. After a while they come together forming a flash of light and more letters unknown to me.

"Ah..." states the deity and I turn to look at him expectantly.

"I can't read any of these letters" I add in realisation and begin to sweat. I literally have no idea what I've gotten myself into.

"Those are universal letters, so you mortals can't read...". The god replies but stops himself, confusing me.

"So?" I urge him to continue but the deity gives me a strained look.

"The system we have created determines which world and initial power the reincarnated person will enter on their journey and you... well you are going to the world of Highschool DxD."

I nod in understanding, but seeing no hint of continuation, I glance again puzzled. The god seems to hesitate but why exactly?

"How can I put this ..."

"You'll be human again" he finally replies almost cautiously.

"Alright and?"

"Uh...that's all ..."

"What?!" I inquire unbelievably, feeling my panic rise "You're telling me I'll be human..."

"Yes."

"-Without powers-"

"Yes..."

" -No sacred equipment or abilities of any kind..."

"Yes?"

"Against forces involving all sorts of supernatural things, like gods and dragons, who seek to cause the demise of the world?"

"Eh..."

"Son of a bitch!" I reached out to strangle him but my body merely ended up passing him by... damn the fact of having a soul without physical contact... really sucks.

"...May I give you my blessing?" he asks apologetically.

"Why the hell didn't you do that before?" i yell trying to pull my hair out in frustration... while the god tries to reassure me but failing miserably.

"Tradition? See...it's usually given after the gacha...and I didn't expect you to have such bad luck?"

I was already ready to invoke any of the deities who brought me here but a pillar of light dazzled me and then my vision went dark.

"Hmm this could be a problem..."

Unknown location...

Fire. That's all I see when I open my eyes. Surprisingly, despite being near flames, they do not burn my body. They are bizarre and yet familiar. In a way it seems to be almost relaxing but one thought lingers in my head.

Is this what hell looks like?

[So you've woken up, unexpected guest] a powerful voice rumbles out and I'm nearly stunned. I turn my gaze and see a dra- never mind maybe I'm hallucinating [Tsk I assure you brat I'm anything but a hallucination]

The creature's annoyed reply catches me off guard. The creature is an immense dragon. It stands tall, but I can't measure it exactly because part of its body is covered in flames, but it is still enormous. I note its features carefully...a western red dragon, with gold and red spikes sprouting on various parts of its body, the visible ones at least. His green eyes gaze intently into mine and I notice he exudes a mixture of distrust and annoyance.

I try to add something in order to soothe his irritation and not piss him off. And I swear only I can end up in a situation like this *sigh*.

"So..."...yet I find myself hesitating for a moment. I mean how would you feel having a pissed off gecko in front of you at the muzzle as soon as its eyes open? "Where are we?"

[In the depths of Boosted Gear, minor annoyance.] He replies annoyed and I'm a little puzzled by his wariness. If he's here, maybe...

"I'm not the new Sekiryuutei, right? Then why are you so hostile towards me Ddraig?" I inquire.

[No, you and my host are connected on a metaphysical level, probably due to the fact you are twins] The thunderous voice of the dragon leaves me stunned. [Your soul for some reason is already developed and you are certainly not an homunculus, otherwise I would have noticed, so an anomaly in the reincarnation system? Possible, but odd for you to be conscious like that, and there has been no magical activity around my host's mother for nine months, then how is this possible? Very intriguing...]

"..."

[Oh right I got lost in my pondering. Anyway, yes, apparently you're going to be my host's twin brother, but I warn you I don't trust you, so I'll keep an eye on you] he states with a snort, leaving the unwelcome guest with an irritated look

Alright if you want to act like this two can play this game. I look at him again but this time with an amused grin almost feeling sympathy for him. Oh boy he really doesn't know what's coming.

The latter doesn't stay behind and tries to get an answer.

[Uh... what's with that smile?]

"Oh, nothing" I add mischievously "I'll enjoy seeing your misery if my brother is who I think he is".

After all, I'm not entirely convinced if everything will remain the same with my birth. If I remember correctly, the god-not-parasite had sent me here with an objective. Yet that clueless idiot didn't even explain to me what kind of problems I'd be facing, so I'll have to be on my guard for the future.

[Hmpf, wait and hope brat, as if a mere human could bend a dragon like me] replies the amused creature not buying my words before continuing [Good birth anyway].

"Wait what?!"

And everything turns dark again...

Four years have passed since I was born again, but if I had to be honest it felt like an eternity for me. The experience was awful, especially because I was aware of everything that was happening. After turning 4 I finally had a little more space for myself and I must admit that I missed being able to move freely around the house since a lot of things changed for me with my rebirth.

As predicted, I was born in Japan to the Hyodou family and took the name Haru Hyodou, although the name should be spelled backwards in this country.

The first two years were quite excruciating and if someone would ask me 'and why?' I would reply with 'childbirth'. Learning and realising I could no longer move or speak for myself was a nightmare.

I was unable to do anything and it was absolutely humiliating to be breastfed by a complete stranger and wear a nappy again. Yet I do believe it was bearable the moment I attached myself to my new parents. In spite of their encitrity and protective nature, I slowly began to appreciate this family, which I would describe in a nutshell as simple but beautiful. This sentiment grew further as I came to know more about their life.

I also have a twin brother now, Hyodou Issei, who is like any other child his age, cute and obnoxious.

My new parents are Gorou and Miki Hyodou, a normal Japanese couple, rather unlucky in the childbearing department given their low fertility which led them to bury two more unborn children. Although the near traumatic experience of rebirth, I vividly recall the couple's tears of joy and happiness when the doctor announced that both children were in perfect health.

After that I was named Haru, which means spring because I was born in that season (born again on Friday the 17th, just my luck), and paradoxically it is among the seasons I detest. Why? Well, in my previous life I was terribly allergic to many things.

Then there's that lazy-ass lizard Ddraig... over the years I haven't had a chance to get in touch with him since that one time. I faintly remember the details but haven't forgotten that asshole's laugh over my predicament. Tsk he'll pay for that of course.

However I have other plans currently. Like for instance finding a way to 'train' myself faster in this world. I don't have all the time available to me so the sooner I train the better for myself and my survival. With my brother Issei owning the Booster Gear and that bastard who sent me here there's no way I can live a normal life, sooner or later I'll end up in the mess of the supernatural side.

Putting my thoughts aside I focus on my surroundings. I am now with my family and their neighbours, the Shidou, in a park a few metres from our house. During these constant outings, I managed to find a secluded spot and it is here where I have moved while the parents talk and the two children play. It was simple: training. Unfortunately, I realised that having the aura of one of the celestial dragons around me and growing, it will be harder for me to disguise it. Hence I decided to train on a very useful skill: Chakra.

I noticed this peculiarity by chance while drawing a few days ago, as a pastime and by pure chance one of the pencils had stuck in my hand with a faint blue glow. I didn't stop there, although I was excited by the prospect of discovering something significant, I recalled the power source of an anime I was very fond of, Naruto. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but after several excruciating attempts and the use of my imagination where I stayed for a whole day, the fruit of my labour paid off! the fact of my body even being compatible to manifest Chakra in this world was like an epiphany. Yet people think anime is just a waste of time. Regardless I should have expected Naruto wouldn't exist in this world.

Which is why I am sitting here cross-legged in the ground in a meditative position. Before I begin, I take a leaf I have pulled out of a bush and place it on my forehead. What I am doing is one of the most basic Chakra control exercises. It is a mixture of physical and mental energy, and while the former is weak, since my rebirth I have practiced several meditations to ease my inner conflict. There is still a lot of anger bubbling up inside me, mainly because I have not yet come to terms with everything I was subjected to before I set foot in this world.

Having achieved inner calm I reached the point where I could feel the space between one thought and another, a good sign this. I exhale again in order to remove all unnecessary thoughts and press the leaf to my forehead. I shut my eyes and detach my mind from reality, picturing myself channeling up onto something like a pool of warm water at about stomach level. When I feel this warmth growing steadily, I don't hesitate twice and draw it closer to me and the result is a success. I sense the energy rise and reach my head, and then gently move into the area where the leaf rests. I remove my fingers from the leaf and it does not fall. Seeing the progress achieved, I gain an idea and decide to move the Chakra a little further to the right of the leaf.

And thus I continue my exercise for the rest of the day, adding more leaves when I manage to move the ones I had without effort. I didn't even realize how much time is passing.

The training lasts until I hear someone approaching and I am forced to stop the flow of energy and with it the leaves fall. I open my eyes again and notice the orange sky in the bushes. Had it really been that long? It was three o'clock in the afternoon if I'm not mistaken when we arrived at the park and spring had just started, so it should be six o'clock in the afternoon right?

I put my thoughts aside to get up but forget an important detail. Chakra can restrain the body. I ironically end up staggering and thanks to the tree next to me I manage to avoid falling. Shit, is this exercise really that consuming?

'I am so tired'

Exhaustion begins to pervade my body and I suddenly feel drowsy. I would have almost ended up asleep if it wasn't for Tou-san's voice.

"Haru, we have to go!" Gorou's voice shouts.

"I'm coming" I reply weakly and move at a slow pace towards my father who raises an eyebrow when he notices my state.

I can't blame him, I look like someone who hasn't slept in a week now. Of course, in spite of my fatigue, I can feel the eyes mixed with concern and suspicion of Irina's parents, who if I remember correctly are members of the church and therefore knowledgeable about the supernatural.

"Nii-san what's wrong with you?" the childish voice calling me is Issei, my twin brother. He has short brown hair and brown eyes, chubby like a normal 4 year old boy, he asks worriedly.

"Yes! You look like crud!" Another excited voice, this time from Irina. Unlike the sexy angel that many remember, she is also a child, and as any other child, she has the usual tender features, with cheeks that you would like to pinch without end. Brown and rebellious hair, a short cut and purple eyes. She doesn't really act like a girl which is why she has been called several times a tomboy but she would never admit it.

'And Issei believes she's a boy …' I mutter without suppressing the slight upward movement of my lips at the thought "Tou-san I took a nap under that tree, but I rested too much so now I feel tired."

My reply, accompanied by a yawn, causes a big drop of sweat to fall on the adults' heads. If only they knew why.

"Eeeeh? Are you lazy nii-saaaan?" Issei's childish reply makes me grumble a little.

"Do you really like sleeping so much onii-chan?" Irina giggles as I rub my eyes to stay awake but slowly I feel myself collapsing from sleep.

Gorou picks me up and places me on his back. "Being too lazy is not healthy Haru! If you keep this up, you'll never find a girlfriend."

"Zzzz ..." My old man's words were ignored in favor of a nap.

After a long dinner and a hot shower to relax I was ready to have another dreamless night as usual... but that wasn't the case.

"Hello again little human" Ddraig's gruff voice jerks my eyes open in annoyance. Say why now of all times you overgrown lizard?

"..."

"What a speaker today! To what do I owe this cold treatment?" I ignore the dragon's amusement and look at him with discontent "Meh it doesn't matter, rather I'm curious about something, how did you use Chakra before? Usually only Yokai and a few other species can access it."

I raise an eyebrow at the statement.

"What do you mean? Chakra is achieved by merging the physical and mental energy of the user, anyone can do that if they have a network to channel and use it, unless the escape points are flawed or irreparable."

At this point it was Ddraig's turn to be confused.

"Brat, I've been living for a long time and I can assure you this is the first time I've heard of such a thing" now I'm the one who is confused "I've never dabbled in this particular subject, so I'm not filled in on everything, but if humans were really capable of accessing such a power then the war wouldn't have ended... or you're an exceptional case, I will have to investigate."

So Chakra works differently in this world? I thought it was close to Naruto's structure but apparently I have some research to do then.

My state of thought piques the dragon's curiosity but he doesn't manage to ask before I choose to voice out some doubt I have had for awhile "Rather, when I was... reborn you were awake, but how is that possible? Normally, one is still not conscious when the transfer from one host to another takes place."

His reply was not late in coming.

"I can't tell you exactly what happened, even I have no idea how exactly the sacred gear distribution system works, but what I can tell you is that I sensed a foreign force invading a space near my host and when I checked, I found you. The occurrence managed to stimulate my awakening, but you were just a shadow when I last saw you, now you are a 4 year old boy. This is quite unusual if you ask me."

"Even so how do you communicate with me? You shouldn't be here, not even with Issei sleeping next to me."

"Oh, regarding that you don't have to bother. I had heard about it from Albion but you see twins can achieve a strong enough connection to allow that" the dragon continued with a shrug (?).

"Is that so?" I have little to say before another idea comes to mind "and if I told you I was from another dimension and a reincarnation here, what would you do?"

I look up at Ddraig and smile with a bit of spite in his direction, making him shudder for some reason. I may have found a way to make him pay for last time.

"Prove it" is his sole reply and I concede to his request. After all, I have nothing else to do, so I might as well kill some time.

"Alright, so can you see my memories?"

"Yes?" He replies with a bit of hesitation in his tone. Well that doesn't surprise me.

Ddraig's instincts have always been one of his best traits, befitting a creature at the top of the food chain. His instincts are probably warning him now that what he's going to see may or may not shake his worldview.

We shall see. ..

.

.

.

"Nuooooo~" and I end up plugging my ears after the roar of the Welsh dragon with his now shattered honour. Yeah it was fucking worth it.

A cry of horror/agony from the Heavenly dragon pervades like an echo in the blank space. Good thing we are inside the boosted gear. I decide to give him some time to compose himself. I am not so bad after all.

5 minutes later...

Alright, I guess I'll have to retract what I said...

I admit that I found it quite amusing and a tad lame to see the state of the crying dragon in front of me. I almost feel sorry for him...key word 'almost' because who am I kidding? this is gold

"Bwahahahaahha!"

"How can you laugh like that? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HUMILIATING THIS IS FOR ME!" Ddraig yells at me. Oh yes it is but what can I do about it? if anything this makes things funnier.

"Me, the dragon who made the gods tremble, reduced to... THIS!" his rant goes on as the red dragon learned of the horror called Oppai Dragon.

Speaking of the subject, if I remember correctly, I read up to the battle with Trihexa? Unfortunately some details are a bit blurry and not overly clear but I think it should do for now.

"I... feel like I'm going to be sick..." he mutters.

"But if you don't have a body, how does that work?" my sceptical question seems to cause him more anguish.

"And do you have a heart!? That disease infected Bellzard too!"

"Come on now, stuff happens" I reply as if it were nothing and move on with the conversation "Anyway, what am I going to do now? I would rather not give up my humanity, but in order to remain human I need to grow stronger."

The change of topic seems to be a good distraction for Ddraig.

"*Sniff* keep training your Chakra, you probably won't reach God class status without the sacred gear, but you'll become stronger and more resilient than any human, given how I affected your exposure in your mother's womb" Ddraig replies wiping away nervous tears, and pulling up mucus...if not perhaps for being surprised I would have turned away from the grossness of the scene.

Back to the point.

"Exposure?" perhaps a possible luck I didn't know existed?

"You don't have the summoning equipment, but having come into contact with its power while you and my companion were in your mother's womb, the dragon's power seeped into your body as it formed, giving you a more resilient constitution than normal. If trained it will be your best weapon, as it will become more resilient than Siegfried's after eating the heart and drinking the blood of the original Fafnir" he clarifies with a sigh as he massages his temples.

"'Is there anything else? "' I ask with the hope of any available advantage.

"On top of that you have increased resistance to magic while your energy reserves are well beyond the norm as my blood is flowing into you due to the booster gear, but I don't know how it has affected you in other ways" Ddraig answers sincerely "If we're done now leave, you've done enough damage already."

With that I was thrown out of the deep layer of the sacred gear. When I open my eyes it was early morning.

"At least now I'm not completely unarmed..." I say as I sit up and absentmindedly look at my brother's sleeping form.

He looks incredibly peaceful as he sleeps and sucks his finger like a lamb. Looking at this scene I feel a strong protective feeling. I would rather not want him to fight to be honest but it's inevitable at this point. Would this be what they call big brother instinct?

I only hope to lighten the load on his shoulders a little in the future.

With my mind made up I place my gaze on him one last time and affectionately muss his hair. I get up to change, exit through the main entrance and start my morning run.

I return a couple of hours later before getting scolded by my mother for leaving home without saying a word.
