Chapter 1: Awakening

There are several things wrong with my current situation...

The hard, dirty floor, the distant chirping of birds, the rustling of wind through trees, my entire body aches, my head throbbing as I weakly twitch on the ground.

The thing wrong with what's going on... is that I'm outside...

When I am certain that I went to sleep in bed.

In my room. In my house.

I sit up slowly, blearily cracking my eyes open as I tiredly skim the surroundings.

'what the hell?!'

I'm in some sort of forest, green leaves drift down as the sun glares down overhead.

I look over my body, I wear long black sweatpants and a white T-shirt.

"Huh?!" A pre-pubescent voice echoes out.

I look down at my arms and hands.

This isn't my body.

I have pale skin, something that is normal for myself, but beyond that? Everything else is different.

I am skinny and small, my arms lack any sort of muscle, all in all, I'm just... tiny.

'What the hell?!'

*Bzzt Bzzt*

I reach down into my pants pocket and pull a phone free. I appear to have gotten a text-

The screen abruptly glitches violently, eventually the borders become a deep reddish burgundy as white words appear in the center of the touch screen.

Greetings Villain.

I am the Advanced Virtual Assistant to Nefarious and Immoral Purpose. AVANIP, if you will. AVANIP is a hyper advanced multi-dimensional series of records and systems made to pluck those with 'Negative Karma' who have died, freeing from the stream of reincarnation, and weigh the dice as it were. Instead of being placed in a random world with no memories of your past life, you were placed in a random universe which you have grown fond of. Your only task from this point forwards is to seriously shake things up.

In addition to Reincarnation, AVANIP allows you to keep in contact with all those with the AVANIP System across the vast multiverse. Do not worry, you are the only 'addition' to the world you have found yourself in. The branching petals of reality are infinite and constantly growing, and despite there being an billions upon billions of System users, that number is far lower than 'Infinite'.

Finally, the AVANIP system functions as your medium to gain skills and purchase items and special qualities from other worlds. But how will you ever make any money by merely existing? You clearly need some form of archetype, thus we shall be giving you one.

Randomizing your 'Villainous Archetype'.

1% 2% 3%

I watch a glowing red bar slowly fill as a roulette wheel spins on the top half of the screen.

Eventually it finishes randomizing. The wheel slows down, passing over 'Rapist' and 'Serial Killer'.

Villainous Archetype: Mad Scientist

I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god. I could have been forced to do waaaaay worse."

Granting Starter Skill.

'Starter skill? What would a rapist get in this scenario? 'Roofie'?'

Alchemy: (Novice) {Common}

You are no stranger to toiling over a cauldron and manufacturing salves and potions. It's just that... sometimes the effects aren't exactly what you want.

You know how to create Common 'Worldly Alchemical Concoctions'.

Alchemical concoctions are 5% more powerful than normal.

I freeze in place as knowledge gets forced into my head.

It takes me a moment but I come to realize just what a couple of these recipes mean.

"Oh... that's not good."

"That's not good at all."

I slowly rise to my feet, looking at the skill that appeared on the screen.

'I can do... alchemy?'

The skill tab is minimized, retreating to a small tab in the corner of the phone's screen.

A Mad Scientist is nothing without a lab! Thus, you, like all users of the AVANIP, will be granted a small starting wealth of 50,000 Dollars... or this universe's equivalent.

With this money you may buy anything you want! But we would personally suggest using it to design a base of operations for your future endeavors.

Current Wealth: 50,000 Poké

Yes, 'Poké' as in... Pokedollars. I was placed in the pokemon world. Which is subpar, I suppose.

This is my life now, so I guess I'll be forced to live like this.

I look around slowly, spying a large boulder nearby. I walk up to it and nod slowly.

'this'll do.'

I clench my hand around my new phone as I hold it out in front of me.

A hole is carved into the rock as a pathway opens before me, dirt walls are replaced with concrete, a second rock slides into place over the hole, a disguised shell of steel made to look like a boulder.

With a wave of my phone the rock cracks open, revealing a dark pathway leading down.

I quietly step into it and continue downwards for ten feet.

The walkway abruptly expands into a fairly large room, ten feet across, twenty feet long, and seven feet high, the walls are made of concrete with arches to support the solid ceiling up above as I slowly nod.

With a snap of my fingers, vents appear at the top of the room, allowing ample air flow to enter the room.

I look down to my phone as I let out a quiet sigh.

Current Wealth: 26,100 Poké

Well, this isn't as much as I would have wanted.

Notice: You have no method to generate electricity. The system can get around this by powering your electrical devices directly, yet please be aware that you will be forced to pay a monthly bill.

Current bill per month: 248 Poke.

I wave my hand as furniture begins to fill out the room.

A bed in the far corner, a desk on the wall beside it with a computer that looks like it had just been torn out of a gamer setup, a line of beakers, glass tubes, Bunson burners, and numerous flasks appearing on a desk that flashes to life on the other side of the room

Current Wealth: 18,100 Poké

Well... this is roughly all I need...

I walk over and take a seat on the bed, folding my arms behind my head.

This is my life now, eh?

*Ping*

Congratulations on creating a nice secure space for your future endeavors, this will surely be useful in the distant future!

Now, you might be wondering how all this works. It's quite simple. The more evil stuff you do, the higher your 'villainous ratings' will go. If you get ratings high enough in an individual month, you may get some form of investment from the system.

Please be aware that you can ALSO sell items you steal, create, or are otherwise in your posession, in which case, either one of two things will happen, firstly, they are teleported across the world you currently reside in as 'canon' characters buy them. This is typically what happens to those who are just starting out.

The second option is that the system itself will buy the items, but considering the numerous villains across the multiverse, we are quite picky with what we buy. So this typically only applies to extremely rare objects.

You might find it strange that you sell to the world through the system, but it isn't all too weird, in addition to the automatic teleportation of any item you sell, you are granted several other boons by the system, the first is the power to block out any psychic telepathy you don't want. This is to prevent knowledge of the AVANIP System becoming widely known in a world with thousands of psychics who have capabilities to read minds. Even with a telepathic bond you allow, you will be unable to mention the AVANIP system as anything relating to it is treated as a form of 'blank' for anyone listening in. They can't comprehend it, nor do they remember any context involving it.

Additionally, you will find that your body didn't simply come to exist. You have your very own backstory, crafted to let you better integrate with the world.

You are the son of the younger brother of a man who is the owner of a very expansive business tycoon. It has been decades since they last saw each other, and your parents have long since died, leaving you alone in the world.

Your mother was the last living member of a Sinnoh tribe that dated back thousands of years, passing on her knowledge of the past to you (An excuse for you to easily know the long forgotten Hisuian forms and evolutions) due to her reclusive nature, nobody 'important' ever met her, and your father's family was completely unaware he was even married.

This background allows you great flexibility within this world, and we look forwards to seeing how you continue forwards.

"…"

"Sooo how to proceed from here..."

My eyes stray over to the computer. "Well, a little research never hurt anyone."

That little beauty cost quite a lot. Getting internet connection all the way out here and a method to prevent tracking was quite expensive.

Knowledge is power... and I know nothing about this world.

"Hrn..."

There are several issues with how I wish to go forwards.

The Avanip system is incredibly powerful for what it is, and for simplicity's sake, from this point forwards I shall be calling it the 'Villainous System'.

But, despite the system's incredible power, it requires one sole thing to function. Money.

Something I really don't have that much of.

Of course, there are ways to get around this... or rather, a way to get around this.

Make potions.

Sell potions.

Profit.

That is my only option going forwards.

The main issue is that potions and alchemical concoctions require ingredients to create.

There are two ways to get ingredients. Firstly, go out and find them, a dangerous task considering that the very 'pest' animals of this world can breathe fire and are bred for combat.

The second option, is to buy them from the system shop, which is an issue because it also costs money.

So really, I'm in a lose-lose situation. My skills aren't good enough to consider buying potion ingredients, and I legally can't own a pokemon for protection due to my body's age.

One of the startling changes I discovered in this world compared to the anime and games.

You can't legally own a pokemon unless you are sixteen years old.

Sure, 'youngsters' exist, but they are only allowed to use pokemon in battles with parental supervision... and even then, there's a limit to just how dangerous a pokemon they can command, but by far the WORST thing is that they can't even make or money from battles!

Yes, I am at quite the impasse.

I have a staggering four years to go until I can legally own a pokemon, but... I refuse to simply just wait around.

I won't catch any pokemon until I am of age, but nothing will stop me from acquiring a team beforehand.

I rise from my chair and nod quietly.

The system is really something. Not only does it allow me to purchase... let's call it 'hard to acquire' pokemon and buy rare items like key stones and mega stones, but its shop system also expands far beyond the scope of the pokemon world.

Sacred Gears, Infinity Stones, Magical Metals, Saiyan DNA, and don't even get me started on the ability to buy skills. I could easily learn how to shoot a kamehameha... as long as I had enough money.

I should probably ignore most of the out of universe materials and skills as they are quite expensive.

Hell, I could eventually even ditch this universe entirely and go live somewhere else if it ever gets bad here... and I have an absolutely ludicrous amount of money in my back pocket, of course.

In the single day that I have been pondering and researching I have come to a decision...

I want a team of pokemon that can easily kill legendaries. The literal living natural disasters in this world. And when I say 'natural disasters' I mean it. Last year an Articuno apparently had an issue with some pokemon hunters, so it promptly caused a blizzard that covered one third of Kanto for three months during the summer. The league could barely deal with the storm, let alone the angry ice bird itself. Despite all of his bluster, Lance was merely only able to try and lessen collateral damage.

Now, MAYHAPS that has something to do with the fact that he has like three dragonite, a pokemon who is quad-weak to ice and an overall team focus that is primarily weak to ice, but that's neither here nor there.

To have a team capable of tangling with those big beasties... allowing me to eventually CAPTURE those beasts of legendary stature?! That's the dream.

I just need to figure out how exactly to make a pokemon that can challenge the gods of this world!

I cup my chin, plots spiraling throughout my head.

'The easiest way to get a pokemon that is stronger than the standard model of their species... is through giving them a higher starting position through genetic alteration and cloning... I can do what breeders do on a much more controlled scale. Adding in traits I want and cutting out those I don't want. The issue is, to purchase the ability to even begin to learn genetic alteration is... quite expensive. One hundred thousand poke... and that is with a discount given due to my 'lack of skills' and the discount due to it being 'in my archetype'.

Step one is gene altering, but what is step two? Legendary pokemon are so far beyond the standard species, how do I close the gap?

I don't really want to make a legendary pokemon as my first creation. That sounds sort of like a cop-out... I want it to be unique. I want to utterly devastate the deities in a unique way, I don't want Palkia or Dialga to be all 'Wait... Giratina, I thought you were sealed in the reverse world. Why are you with this random human and why are your colors slightly different?' I want them to be all 'Wait... who's this human... why is there a small rat beside him, what is it doing- OH SWEET ARCEUS!'

Besides, getting a legendary pokemon would certainly put me on some form of watchlist. I want to avoid that for the time being. The less people wondering 'where the fuck did you get that' the better. With genetically altered pokemon I could just play it off as merely having good luck or 'family secrets'.

Hn. I appear to have gotten sidetracked.

I need money... and to get money I need to grind my alchemy so I can make some sweet cash money!

*Ping*

I look to the computer.

Alchemy Upgrade Quest 1:

All of the greatest alchemists had to start somewhere. The start of your journey, the beginning of it all... don't go about making any plagues, now~

Objective: Craft 10 Common Elixers: 0/10 [ ]

Reward

'Alchemy' Skill is improved to the next level of mastery

It appears that only the first level of a skill is required to be purchased with money, after that you can simply level it up through upgrade quests... interesting. I had assumed you would have been forced to pay a ridiculous sum for each skill rank up, but it appears I am pleasantly surprised.

I gaze at the door on the other side of the room letting out a long loathing sigh. "Well, I guess I should probably get out there..."

"RAT! PATRAT-RAT!" A large chipmunk-like rat thing with crazy red eyes dives forwards, its long, straight tail with a white tuft of fuzzy fur at the end darkening in color as it gains a metallic sheen.

Its red eyes glare with poorly hid maliciousness as it lets out a dark chuckle. "Rat-Rat-Rat."

It completes its dive with a front flip, smashing its tail into the ground inches from where my heel was moments before.

The ground cracks as a miniature crater appears.

I whirl around on a dime and kick the small creature in the face as hard as I can, sending it tumbling back with a surprised squeak.

I wince a brown furred object blurs through the air and smashes against my blocking forearm as I barely manage to defend.

The second patrat is punched down into the ground as I turn and run, dodging a third's quick attack from the bushes.

The three patrat inch closer and closer as their normal type energy courses through their bodies.

"LILIPUP!" A new voice roars as a small dog lunges into the confrontation and smacks into one of the patrat.

I gain a quite substantial lead on the masked chipmunk pokemon and disappear through the tree line, a dull ache lances through my arm as I nod slowly. 'Lilipup, you won't be forgotten. I'll remember your sacrifice.'

'Patrat... you won't be forgotten. If I have my way, I'll extinct your entire species.'

As I pass through another clearing, inching closer and closer to my home, I realize that I have finally escaped the fucking annoying rodents.

I hop atop a large boulder and slide down the front, waving my uninjured hand over a smaller boulder just beside it.

The rock slides forwards, curving down into the ground as a passageway appears.

The rock slides closed as I dart inside, bringing a hand to my chest to calm my hammering heart.

I defeatedly march down the staircase, letting out a long sigh of relief as I take my backpack and sit it on my alchemy table as I decide to take a load off and flop back on my bed.

"FUCK!" I loudly curse.

I lift my pained arm and glare down at the sickening purple splotch that is steadily forming.

I think my arm might be fractured.

Little fucking RATS.

They will rue the fucking day they crossed me!

I didn't even fucking antagonize them! They just saw me collect some berries and decided 'welp I want that.' I didn't even take the entire fucking bush!

That was a bred move as well. Patrat can't learn iron tail by itself. It has to inherit it from its parents.

I slowly get up and walk over to my backpack.

Well, a good time as any to make some healing potions.

I open the backpack revealing numerous speckled blue berries about the size of a mandarin orange.

I look over to the large line of tubes and glass containers and let out a quiet sigh, my mind being drawn to the numerous recipes now contained in my head.

'lets see... to make a suitable healing potion... I need to...'

I place the berry in a mortar and pestle and quickly mash it up, transferring the liquified berry into a beaker being heated by a small Bunson burner.

It begins bubbling after some time, I place some purified water in a flask above it and begin steadily dripping water into the concoction at a fair pace.

Not too much, not too little.

The water evaporates and flows up a tube where it begins to concentrate in a second glass flask, a purplish fluid beginning to form at the bottom of the container that is also lit up by a small flame.

It evaporates once more, flowing into another beaker.

I turn away from the device as the purple liquid flows down another funnel into a small test tube.

I shakily stand from the chair and make my way back over to my computer, sitting down upon it as I cradle my injured arm close to my chest.

While the healing properties of the Oran berry are being extracted and concentrated, I can begin to plan for my future team...

What do I want?

What sort of team would be needed to combat the legends- nay, the pseudo legends of this world.

If a Patrat can probably kill me, what about a fucking Salamence?

How fast would its fire breath melt my flesh from my bones, how swiftly would my bones be reduced to powder by a lazy swing of its tail?

What would I need to defeat that let alone a legendary pokemon?

"…"

A blast of insight hits me.

"A... Steel Type..."

From basic research online, I have deduced that most steel types form an armored shell via the ore they eat.

And what pray tell do I have access to?

A shop that sells mythical magical ore from every media ever.

Vibranium Steelix.

Vibraniumix.

I'll workshop the name.

A savage grin crosses my face as I lean back in the chair my uninjured hand clenching into a fist.

Adamantium Aggron.

I'll stay in my little cave, do my own thing... and make a perfect pokemon... and then? I'll burn those fucking rats to the ground. I'll take exquisite joy in watching the dread form on their faces as they come to a shocking realization of 'this is my fault. I should have fucked with this unhinged psychopath'. But then it'll be too late.

After around an hour of browsing I glance over my shoulder and rise from my chair as I see a suitable amount of potion has drizzled down into the test tube.

I quickly swap out the test tubes and look down into the murky purple fluid and nod quietly.

Least Healing Elixer: {Common}

A fluid made from an Oran Berry, its healing factor was enhanced through alchemy causing it to be a much better medicine than the berry itself, however, as a result of the alchemical process, it was rendered quite strong smelling and unpleasant to use.

Heals light wounds over the course of 600 seconds.

The user of this item has a 15% chance of gaining the 'Nausea' debuff for an hour.

Current Sell Price: 15 Poke

"This is going to suuuuck." I whisper to myself, leaning back away from the potion as to not smell any of it.

I down it in one gulp, nearly throwing up the second it touches my tongue.

I hold fast and barely manage to force the fluid down my throat, an involuntary shiver crossing my body as I glare down at the test tube.

My breath comes out in quiet wheezing pants as I purchase a simple bottle of water and drink half of it in a matter of seconds in an attempt to get the taste out of my mouth.

I shudder once more and shake my head. "Fuck."

For a brief moment... the pain subsided as I had a much larger problem to focus on, but now, the throbbing has returned in full force.

I'm not close to vomiting anymore- unless I think about the potion's flavor- so it appears I got lucky.

I look to the computer and nod once at the quest objective.

Objective: Craft 10 Common Elixers: 1/10 [ ]

I need nine more of those and I'll be good to go. Then I can grab the next level quest and move on, plus I can sell these potions and get some of that sweet, sweet, money.

My body shakes as I remember the taste of the potion I just consumed. It rolls throughout my mouth like phantom pains.

Ugh, I hope I don't need to drink another one to fix my arm.

My eyes widen as I give my forearm a gentle tap.

"Huh..."

The bruise is gone completely and while it slightly aches, it's merely a dull ache as if I had been exercising. I can work like this.

I look to my alchemical setup and nod slowly.

'hn, it needs another berry.'

Luckily when I was out, I grabbed quite a few oran berries, in addition they are large enough to produce roughly two potions each.

Some are slightly bruised by my escape from the patrat, but they're still fine for my purposes.

Oran berries can sit out for a couple of days so I should be able to blow through all of these without any rotting.

Oran berries grow quite quickly as well, so maybe I should do something like an indoor garden so I don't have to leave and get mauled by patrat again. But where could I put it?

I look to a door in the corner.

It wasn't part of the earlier designs of my secret lab, I made it recently because I needed a bathroom. It's a small five by five room with a shower, toilet, and sink/mirror combo.

There's no room in there.

I glance around the room I am currently sat in, the bed is quite large, taking up a fair portion, the two desks are sort of in the way as well.

As it is currently, you have the door leading out of the room, and an L shaped pathway leading to the bathroom door. It's quite cramped and mess, but I suppose I could make it work. The only location I could put a berry pot is in the corner.

I walk over to the computer and quietly tap away in search of what I want.

"Oh, hey, this works."

Devon Corp Berry Box:

A high tech device made for trainers of all sorts. As long as it is powered, this device gives the berries within suitable sunshine for sustained growth, allowing you to harvest berries of your choice at your Lesure.

Cost: 5000 Poke

I sharply inhale through my teeth, cringing slightly at the price take.

I sigh and shake my head, quietly buying it.

With a flash, a plant pot as large as my torso appears.

Honestly, if I had to compare it to anything... it looks sort of like a cartoonish rocket.

Beyond the plant pot itself, four spires of metal arc upwards towards a metallic dome, leaving four large open spots for anyone to reach in and snag whatever they want.

I slowly shove it into the corner and watch as an outlet appears on the wall beside it, the plug seemingly being magnetized to the socket.

After thirty minutes of reading the manual that came with it, I have a berry planted in the soil and watered.

It takes an oran berry around a month to grow and begin to produce some berries. Not the absolute monsters I picked, but more akin to grape size.

Regretfully that'll mean I'll be forced to use more than one oran berry for a single potion until my oran tree grows larger, but eh. I'll take that over being forced to fight against hateful superpowered animals.

I stare at the powered machine, sighing as a thought comes to my mind.

Now for the painful bit.

Current bill per month: 848 Poke.

"Hnnng." I wince, my nose crinkling slightly.

That's merely electricity and water for my bathroom. This doesn't calculate food.

Should I eat what will make me healthier, or should I say 'fuck it' and eat extremely cheap meals to save money.

Well, I mean, if I want to actually go on a pokemon adventure in four years, I have to keep in shape. That will probably involve building another room for an indoor gym. Luckily most gym equipment can be used without power though, so it won't really tax my monthly income beyond a few lights.

A shocking realization strikes me suddenly as I quietly stand.

I... have been in this world for a day... and have had access to a mirror for numerous hours... yet I never took a chance to look at myself.

What do I look like now?

I slowly approach the bathroom, open the door and step inside. I turn to the mirror and stare into the reflection.

Staring back is a boy with snow white hair, steel blue eyes, and a pale complexion. My skin is shockingly smooth. No acne or blemishes, of course this could be a factor that this body technically hasn't gone through puberty yet. All in all, I'm a cute kid. If I keep my good looks, I'd like to think I'd be quite the lady's man in the future.

I also don't really have a name yet.

"Hrn..." I lowly hum. "How about Xander... Xander Welsh? I like it. Let's go with that."

I smile and nod, leaving the bathroom as a ding from my computer catches my attention.

'Oh! The Quest must be done.'

Before I check the rewards, I walk over to my alchemy equipment and replace the full vial of murky purple liquid and stick a cork in it.

After gently placing it in a box with a crisscross soft pattern within- to prevent the glass bottles from cracking if I decide to move them- I walk back over to the computer.

Upgrade Quest Complete!

Alchemy 'Novice' has been improved to Alchemy 'Initiate'

Alchemy: (Initiate) {Common}

You've stepped into a brand-new world of wonder... alchemical creation! The power of life itself rests in your palms... now if only you could remove those pesky side effects.

You know how to create Common 'Worldly Alchemical Concoctions'.

Alchemical concoctions are 10% more powerful than normal.

"Hn. Just a simple five percent?" I question idly.

It's not much, I suppose, but every bit helps. Eventually these five percent modifiers will start to add up.

The real question is 'does it merely improve by five percent with each rank up or does it double each time'.

I hope it's the latter, but I am steeling my hopes in case of the prior.

*Ping*

Alchemy Upgrade Quest 2:

Congratulations! You didn't create some form of highly infectious flesh-eating bacteria! Perhaps this world may survive your evil schemes! But you shouldn't gloat yet, you still have a long perilous road ahead of you.

Objective: Craft 25 Common Elixers: 0/25 [ ]

Reward

'Alchemy' Skill is improved to the next level of mastery

"Oh boy... I can see how this is going to work." I sigh.

I wonder how long it'll take until I'm required to make thousands upon thousands of Common Elixers... plus hundreds of uncommon ones... and hundreds of rare ones.

At the rate I'm going, I'm making roughly one an hour- provided I have supplies- That's sixteen a day if you take into account that I'll be sleeping for at minimum eight of those twenty four hours. Each potion can be sold for fifteen dollars, which in turn equals about... two hundred and forty dollars a day.

A smile crosses my face.

I can afford those bills quite easily... provided I don't run out of oran berries.

I glance over to the line of berries stacked carefully in a basket.

Each of those large berries can make about two potions each, so that's like... fifty two potions in all.

Fifty two plus my earlier nine is a grand total profit of nine hundred and fifteen poke... should I decide to sell.

I let out a low groan as I clutch my head in my hands. "It's wild that I'm able to make enough to cover my bills in like three days but I'll need far more than that if I want to purchase a basic understanding of genetics to build my dream team."

"I'm going to be forced to go out there again, aren't I?"

I silently stare at the screen allowing me to access the villainous system. One sole thought comes to mind.

"I wonder if I can buy a gun?"
