Luffy Punches New Game by dragonraptyr (One Piece)

Summary:Luffy dies in his fight against Kaido. He wakes up in an odd room with a mystery wall. In an attempt to break free, he punches New Game Plus.
Chapter 1: The Mystery Room

"What?"
Luffy blinked, startled by the odd shift in scenery. From the misery-soaked soils of Onigashima to... wherever this place was, in less time than it took to blink. Ignoring the words crawling up the wall, he frowned.
"I know I was fighting Kaido... and I figured out that trick he was doing with conquerer's haki..." Luffy rubbed a finger against his brow. "And then he clobbered me and I fell... to here? I guess this is some kind of a devil fruit?"
Luffy looked around, taking in his surroundings properly. It was a small room, dark except for the one wall with the constantly appearing words – names, for some weird reason, and completely empty.
"Only one thing for it, I guess." Luffy couldn't quite stop the smirk on his face, tucking his thumb between his teeth. "Gear Third!"
...
"Er... Gear Third?" Luffy tried again, after the expected giant limbs failed to appear. "Gear Second! ...No? Uh... I know? Gum Gum Pistol!"
Luffy threw out his arm. It failed to stretch in any significant way, save for stretching out sore muscles.
"I thought for sure that would work." Luffy muttered to himself. "Am I not stretchy?" He pulled at a cheek, and then winced in pain. "Nope. Not stretchy. Hum. What about Haki?"
He clenched his fists. Like everything else so far, this turned out to be a bust.
"So it's not seastone." Luffy tapped his foot. "Whatever fruit this is must have made it an un-powery place. Not sure why Haki doesn't work though."
He grinned. "Guess I'll just have to punch through it anyway!"
By now, it must be noted, the names had ceased appearing, and the room had brightened. Three options appeared on the wall instead. New Game | New Game Plus | Options
By some bizarre twist of fate (or typical straw hat luck), Luffy's punch struck the New Game Plus
"Wha?"
The room went dark.
Chapter 2: Hint, hint

[ENTER NAME]
"Um, what?"
That seemed to be something that Luffy found himself saying more and more frequently over the past half-hour. First the mystery room, then a flashback-thing about Gol D. Roger, and now this.
'This' being a strange floating blue question mark that had appeared in the middle of Foosha village.
Also he was six, but eh.
He had approached the mysterious question mark thingy, and poked it. Now it wanted to know his name.
"Uh... I'm Monkey D. Luffy, and I'm going to be King of the Pirates! Nice to meet you, question-mark!"
[New Save Data Created – monkeydluffy]
[Welcome to One Piece!]
[If you require assistance at any time, approach the hint system, and state your inquiry.]
[Good luck!]
Luffy gave a tremendous grin. "So this question-mark can answer any question?
[Yes]
"Hey, question-mark... do you poo?"
[...The hint system is not capable of any bodily excrements.]
"What does that mean?"
[I do not poo.]
"Oh. Okay!"
Chapter 3: New Game Plus

Luffy wandered aimlessly about Foosha. He was beginning to be convinced that this was not merely some trick of a devil fruit, but some kind of mystery thing.
"Oh, wait! I can just go ask question about this! They gotta know the answer!"
He ran back through the village, until he came to the closest floating blue question mark. Either there was more than one, or Question was just really fast.
"Yep, I bet he's faster than that light admiral guy. No doubt about it, Question is the fastest there is!"
Luffy walked up to the hint sytem, a big grin on his face. "He question... you have to answer anything I ask, right?"
[Yes.]
"Great. Uhm... is this some kind of a devil fruit thing?"
[This. Term unclear. Define.]
"This." Luffy waved his arms wildly. "The room-place, and being a kid, and Foosha... This!"
[This. Term defined. This is not the work of a devil fruit. This is an iteration of the 'One Piece' JRPG by Eiichiro Oda, started in New Game Plus mode after the termination of the previous game. No previous save data was found.]
"And that means..."
[You died. And now you get another chance.]
Luffy's jaw dropped. "I died! So Kaido really killed me? What about Sanji, and Chopper, and Traffy... What about everyone? Are they alright? Did they win?"
[Upon terminat- death of the player character, monkeydluffy, the game ended.]
"So... we lost? Because I died?"
Luffy fell to his knees. and blinked away tears. He had promised. He had promised them never again...
[Yes.]
[...]
[New Game Plus. A mode in unlocked by the registration of a previous game. Allows save data from a previous game to be carried over into a new file.]
Luffy's head snapped up, staring at the blue question mark.
"They're...okay?"
[...]
[Party Members retain all previous experience and equipment. Any accrued experience is added when they rejoin the party.]
"So they'll only remember when they rejoin the crew, is that it?"
[Yes.]
Luffy gave a beaming grin. "Shihihihi! Then I'll just have to get stronger and train!" He stood up, smacking a fist into his hand. "I'm not gonna lose this time!

"Yeah. No way we're losing again!"
