It's time for me to return to my monotonous life. I went to college, then worked part time, that's the routine I did. The rest of my time I spend at Ze's apartment. Finally I had to share the cost of renting an apartment with Zevanya because it was no longer possible for me to return to the dorm.
I sat in class waiting for Mr. Hudson after yesterday he did not teach and only gave assignments via email. He was supposed to come to teach us today, and that seemed to be what all the students were starting to seem nervous because he wasn't usually late for class, while today he was a few minutes late.
While everyone was busy with their own business, some were chatting, some were busy with their cellphones, I sat pensively, while my memory was dragged back to what happened yesterday late night at the coffee shop. I was the only one in the shop at the time wiping the table. I saw the woman came in with a white blazer that looks elegant and carries a bag of the same color. With sunglasses the woman came to the bar and asked about me.
"May I see Ms. Stuart?" The woman asked me with an intimidating look. I felt her gaze like it was tickling me.
"I'm." I replied nervously.
"Can we talk for a minute?" She asked and I turned to Uncle Bento, the man nodded giving me permission. I followed her out of the shop and directed me to her car. A man stood by the door and opened the door for me. I entered followed by the woman and we sat side by side while I was silent wondering in my heart, what he wants from me.
The woman's gaze was straight ahead, "I'm Lindsey Mc. Kurtney." She introduced herself, as if to show me who she was.
"Miss McCurtney." I replied, though nervous and trembling, even though I was very curious as to what she wanted from me, "What do you want?" I asked trying to hide my nervousness.
"You're quite impatient, as I thought." She smiled skeptically. "I suggest you stay away from my ex-husband." She said to the point about her purpose to meet me, and it was quite a surprise for me. She is the ex-wife of Mr. Christopher Hudson?
I gulped, "What do you mean?" I asked pretending I didn't understand what she was saying.
She turned to me and glared at me, "Christopher Hudson." she said.
I gulped once more, but tried to hide my nervousness from her, "Your ex-husband was my teacher, mam." I answered.
Sh seemed to be getting impatient, "Don't beat around the bush, I know he's approaching you." Strictly speaking.
I don't know what made me not want to just give in, "If yes then what?" I asked.
The woman's jaw tightened, even though she looked elegant, but I saw a glimpse of her firm jaw hardening at my challenging answer, "How much money do you want, I will give it, as long as you are willing to get out of his sight." She said it was like threatening me.
I sighed deeply, why is everyone judging me in terms of material things? Am I so pathetic that people think I'm after their money instead of having genuine feelings? "I thought you no longer had any relationship with your ex-husband. So stop bothering me." I shuffled out of the car, but the woman uttered a sentence that made me stop myself.
"Tell me how much money you need so you can leave that man?" She insisted.
"I'm not after money." I answered firmly.
The woman smiled sarcastically, "I often see people like you who live like parasites. Or more disgusting because you are rodents born in a slum environment that is always surrounded by hunger. How can you say you don't need money? is this nave or just being nave?" She glared at me.
I shook my head in disbelief, how such a beautiful woman could have such a sharp and painful mouth, "I thought you were an educated, elegant woman, but I was wrong." My answer expresses what I feel in my heart.
"I warned you, don't blame me if I do it my way to keep you away from Christopher." She said curtly.
I returned her glare with all my might, hiding all my fears, "Please do whatever you want." I answered.
"Just see what I can do." She said with a flushed face, he was really mad at me.
"Excuse me," I got out of the car and closed the door in annoyance. She really insulted my poverty, and I didn't accept that. She thought she could do everything with his money.
"Mss. Stuart." I snapped out of my thoughts and saw the man standing in front of me. I look around, and everyone's gone? But I'm sure my daydream won't last for hours.
"Where are the others?" I asked.
"I asked them to go to the library." He replied, and I immediately packed my books and intended to go to the library too.
"Stay here," He said.
"Sorry sir, I have to go to the library, like the other students," I answered.
He kept me sitting in my chair, "I'm your lecturer and I asked you to stay." He strictly speaking.
I took a deep breath, then sat back down in silence.
"I heard Lindsey met you at the tavern," he said.
"Zevanya reported it to you?" I asked annoyed.
"You know your current situation, so don't run away from me anymore, come back to my house tonight." The sentence sounded more like a commandment than a request.
I looked at him doubtfully, "For what?" I furrowed my brows, looking at him "So what your ex-wife thinks of me to be absolutely true?" I asked.
He seemed quite struggling to explain it to me, his face flashing a frustrated look, "You really don't know what to do." I saw the frustrated look behind Mr. Christopher.
I shook my head giving him a soft refusal. "Sorry, but I can't follow your order, Sir," I answered.
I exited the room and left him alone to go to the library with the other students. Still, her gaze, that face, those lips, can't escape my mind. I kept walking until I got to the end of the hall, and right there my phone rang.
"Hello, Zee." Although this phone is very old, I can still use it.
"You heard about Uncle Bento?" Ze asked in a panicked voice.
"Not," I answered quickly. "What's wrong?"
"He was just rushed to the hospital with a heart attack."
"But he's perfectly healthy," I answered.
"Right, and now his son Mr. Howard has come to the tavern and said that the tavern is up for sale, and the new owner will be using the building for other purposes. So today the traven is officially closed."
"WHAT?!" I squealed, just then Christ passed, and what he told me about what his crazy ex-wife could do actually happened.
"Ze, don't cry, we will find another solution."
"I can't pay the rent for my apartment if I don't work, nor can I give money for my sister's school fees."
"I see, we'll find a way." I said, and that's when I saw Christ stop in his tracks, then turn to look at me.
"I'll call you later," I said, then ended our call.
I ran towards Christ to ask about this sudden situation that happened in the traven, "Mr. Bento had a heart attack, now his son came and want to sell the traven, tell me that this is the work of your ex-wife?" I asked him annoyed.
Christ rise his eyebrow, "I told you, she can do a lot." He answered calmly.
I took a deep breath. "I'll see her and ask her to take responsibility, " I said and Christ grabbed my arm.
"Do not be stupid," He said. "She can't hurt the people around me because of me." He continued.
"She could just put a gun to your head and kill you without anyone knowing, you want that to happen?" Christ asked and my eyes widen at that.
"Is that woman psychopath?" I held my chest, suddenly I felt my breath become heavy.
"Follow me." Christ led me down to the first floor and then got into his car.
"We should talk, but not on campus." He answered.
"What about the other students? You still have to teach." I asked him about his duties.
"Eric can handle it." Mr. Christopher answered. Eric is one of the student who is his assistant lecturer.
"From today you have to be at my house, don't go anywhere." Christ turned his car out of the campus area and down the street to his house.
"I may be safe in your house, but what if she hurts people I know?" I asked angrily. "Besides, she's free to enter your house, isn't she?"
Christ glanced at me briefly. "You saw it?" Ask Christ.
"Yes, that night," I answered quietly.
"Oh..." Christ shook his head in frustration.
"She's come a few times but only to pick up what's left of her, and that's the reason why I still give her access." Christopher gives his explanation.
"You don't have to explain it to me."
"It became necessary because that night she came looking for you, and I threw her out."
"Looking for me?" My brows knit.
"For the last six months she's been trying to get me back together but I've refused."
I hold my head, everything feels so complicated now.
"So that's why she asked me to stay away from you?"
"Don't listen to anything she says."
I took a deep breath. "The crux of the matter is with me." I looked down.
"It's on me." Christ corrected.
"I'm going to meet her and sort this out, please."
Christ's car slowed and stopped at the shoulder of the road.
"She won't let you go if I don't let you go," he said. "And I won't let you go." Christ grabbed my face and kissed my lips.
