Cherish Turner didn't know how much of a man's physiological needs William Griffith had; she also didn't know whether he had a girlfriend during the two years before her departure. Facing such a "desirous" man was something Cherish was unable to cope with. As they rode back to the city in silence, she wanted to ask a question that had been bothering her for a long time but couldn't bring herself to do it.
William noticed her unusual behavior but remained silent.
After half an hour of silence, he finally couldn't help it and asked in a deep voice, "What's wrong?"
"Well," she began, dragging the word out before saying, "Nothing."
The car continued, and they remained quiet.
