Jay's POV
The alpha who just left the room indeed left a presence inside the room.
His words and questions lingered in my head, making me think of things I never even cared before.
Kayden Miller.
After I found out that he was my omega, a lot of things became easier for me.
I made him my secretary without even caring about what the others would say, deciding that it'd definitely benefit me better having him by my side.
Once it was publicly known that I have an omega close to me, not many tried to approach me with the intention to get into my pants or getting my money anymore.
No one was a fool enough to still disturb an alpha when he already had an omega covered with his scent close to him. It made them to naturally think that the alpha has had his chosen one already. That the alpha was now off the market.
Except for some shameless ones, like the beta girl earlier.
But even then, she'd only come close when Kayden wasn't around, afraid that when Kayden was here, she'd be in my wrath for being a possible threat to someone whom I have marked as mine.
Back to my thoughts on Kayden, I admitted that I had never tried to get to know the omega even after placing him this close to me.
He did not talk much about himself, not that I ever allowed any situation to happen where he could do so anyways.
But he was a great employee to start with, being so hardworking in his tasks even though his qualifications were not for his secretary position at all.
I believed he got assisted a lot by John, my previous assistant who was also my childhood friend.
John was trusted to handle the company by my father more than I was, but the alpha was always so humble and even decided to just be my assistant even though he was more than qualified to take my position.
As soon as I said I wanted Kayden as my secretary, father offered John the position he deserved better, to be the head of one of our main branches in the city next to us. But he declined that too, agreeing to only become one of the head of departments under my wings.
He helped Kayden a lot even up until now, and I knew the two was closer than I was with the omega.
People could even misunderstood their relationship, if not for the fact that it was publicly known that John was happily married to his omega with a pair of five years old twins, while Kayden was fully reeked with my scent.
"John," I spoke into the phone as soon as the line was picked up, and my childhood friend responded readily.
"You're coming for the meeting, right?" he asked, and before I could even have second thoughts about it, my mouth already gave him an answer.
"No, I'm taking the rest of the day off today" surprising myself with my answer, I believed it shocked John even more hearing how loud he shouted into the phone.
"What?! But the meeting -"
"You can represent me, you're better than me anyways. I trust your judgement more than myself too," cutting him off as I looked for my keys and wallet, I was getting ready to leave the office after turning off my laptop.
"Hey, Jay -" ending the call, I was already stepping out of my office, and made my mind to go to Kayden's house.
Driving into the residency area, it just came to me that the distance between his house and the office was actually close. It only took me ten minutes of driving, probably because the road was almost empty from vehicles due to the time not being in the peak hour range.
Parking the car, I was on my way up to his floor within minutes, and reached his door seconds later. Perfectly punching in the password in the first try after I had it memorized since long ago, I just stepped inside the house without being invited.
"Excuse me?"
A foreign voice sounded threatened was heard from behind me as I closed the door, and I turned abruptly at the call.
"Who are you?" the foreign omega was frowning as he put his guard up, and although I wasn't in the slightness nervousness, I raised both my hands up to show that I meant no harm.
"I'm Jay Kleinhaus, Kayden's boss"
"I've never seen a boss trespass his employee's house before but Kleinhaus, you said? Are you his so-called mate then?" hearing my name seemed to be not the first to him, and I wondered how many more people who knew that I was Kayden's alpha.
"Yes," answering curt, I detected the omega bringing down his guard slightly by the scent coming off from him, and he proceeded walking to the kitchen to place some empty plates and glasses he carried.
"That makes more sense. Where's Taylor?" the kitchen was only a few steps away from the front door, and I was lost at his question.
"Taylor?"
"Taylor Hunt, you met him earlier, didn't you?" the omega asked, and I realized that he must've been closely associated with both Kayden and Taylor then to know Kayden's situation, as well as knowing Taylor's schedule.
"I'm not aware that Mr. Hunt is supposed to come here with me?" I stepped inside the living which was also only a few meters away from both kitchen and front door, while still focusing on the words coming from the omega who was now washing the dishes in the sink.
"He's not dead, right? If he's dead, I'd be able to know right away since he's my mate," he questioned, glancing at me one time before continuing rinsing the bowl, and I was dumbfounded at how unbothered he looked after assuming that I had harmed his alpha.
"No, I didn't do anything to him" suddenly feeling the need to defend myself, the omega just shrugged his shoulder as response.
"Fine then. Please keep quiet, Kayden just fell asleep," he said, then placed the dishes in the stainless steel rack for them to naturally dry off.
"Where is he?" Asking the omega, he turned to me with unamused expression on his face.
"You think he can move after what you did to him last night?" his words attacked me effortlessly, and I kind of felt discourage even when I wasn’t supposed to feel like that.
This omega was much more intimidating than his alpha.
"I see," muttering soft the acknowledgement to his words, I just watched as he took off the apron from his body and said nothing.
"Now that you’re here, I'm leaving him in your care until he’s well enough to be by himself," he was walking towards the front door as soon as he said that, and I was dumbfounded for a second before finding my voice to ask.
"What exactly do I have to do now?"
"Do whatever you want, but disturb him from sleeping or recovering, you're facing me, Mr. Boss. I don't give a shit if you're an alpha or whatever, but Kayden is my precious friend and much more important to me than your selfish ass, you get me?"
"Understood,"
"Good. And I’m asking this for the last time, are you sure you didn't kill Taylor?" His eyes were squinted as he looked at me suspiciously, and I shook my head a few times before saying my reply again.
"I didn't,"
"Alright. You don't have to see me off," he walked out the door without turning back anymore, and I was left standing alone in the middle of the living room.
