Chapter 3

Camila

"Oh, look who decided to finally show up!" Mom exclaims as I stepped foot into the sitting room.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes as everyone turned their heads to look at me. My eyes caught every snare from my family but I played it off as if it was nothing and put my bags on the floor.

"What're those?" Quinn asks pointing to the two small luggage.

"Wedding gifts, from Josh"I say shrugging my shoulders.

That was enough to keep her uninterested for as long as it could. It was just 1:30 p.m, I couldn't control the lunch meeting at the tavern, Josh and I had a lot of catching up to do.

"How is Josh, haven't seen him around in a while"Mom says glancing at me.

"He was in Fiji, on business"I replied nodding my head, letting the answer hang in the air.

There was a heavy silence in the room until Eric, Elijah's father said something. He said to Elijah though and they both walked out of the room.

"Why don't you come and sit with us?" Judie, Elijah's mother asks patting the spot next to her on the couch.

"I'd love to, but I have I yet to finish unpacking and I have some stuff to do before the night"I say pointing upstairs.

She nods with an understanding smile, she wasn't like the rest in the room, she was very calm and collected. I noticed that about her, she was very open minded and spoke whatever she wanted, a woman like that I could stand to be around.

"What could be more important than spending time with your own family?" Dad asks in a daring tone as he turned from his whiskey.

"Leave the poor child alone Nick, she's probably tired, will you hop off her back for a day?" Judie asks rolling her eyes at my father.

I give her a polite smile before getting my bags and heading upstairs. I definitely am tired, driving a whole hour to meet Josh and back wasn't easy, plus the sun was saying hello my whole way.

My father always wanted to be in control, he surely controlled my mother and my sister, but somewhere deep down inside he knew he couldn't control me all the way because I've gone against his words plenty of times.

This whole marriage was apart of some scheme he was plotting, I knew him all too well to put anything passed him. It was something about business for both parties, for me to never have spoken much words to Elijah, then to be married to him, that says a lot and I don't hate Elijah. I hate the fact that he went along with the sham.

They could've married off Quinn, I knew she'd be happy being married to her life long crush. She always had these weird fantasies about her marrying Elijah, she was so infatuated by him. It would've gone better if they married her off, but no, they just had to pull me into their evil plots.

The last thing I'd need right now is them sending me off with Elijah for some stupid fake trip, that would really set it off. Anything for the publicity of their names, I had already agreed to fake wedding, why would they bother to send us off, they wouldn't do that.

Right?.

Anyway, I've got some important work I need to get done before I can finally settle and be relaxed in this house with all of them.

I was in the kitchen, watching the chef my father hired, he just couldn't do without laboring someone else. I came down to make myself something to eat when I saw him, his name was yet to be disclosed but he said that I could call him Chef. I had no problem calling him that, but I'd prefer his real name instead.

"Do you always watch your food being prepared?" Elijah asks taking a seat next to me at the island.

"Do you always find ways to annoy me with your presence?" I ask tapping my fingers on the island top.

"I'm stuck with you for as long as this thing goes, so deal with it"Elijah retorts and I just knew he rolled his eyes.

Refusing to give him any more conversation, I stayed silent and just watched Chef prepare my meal. Elijah just sat there on his phone, once in a while he'd glance at me, I could just punch him off of his high horse, but that wasn't me, I knew better than to retort in his favor.

After I got my food, I sat there and began to nibble on the bacon. I was having my usual, the one I had at the same time everyday, at precisely 4:30 p.m, I'd make a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch with cold milk, a slice of toasted bread and bacon, it was a favorite ever since my grandma was alive, she always made it for me so I grew into the habit of having it.

Elijah just sat there, drinking coffee, he was definitely a business man. I only drank coffee in the mornings, however else, I drink a cold latte or a cold drink.

"Elijah"Quinn drawls sweetly as she strolled into the kitchen.

I rolled my eyes at her sweet voice, she just could never get over her crush. I see why she's all infatuated with him, but he wasn't all that of a person, as far as I could see. She was just one of many who fawned over him.

"Your father asked me to get you"Quinn says wrapping her arm around Elijah's, "oh, and her too"she says flipping her hair and shooting me unnecessary glares.

"Thank you Quinn, we'll be right there"Elijah says feeding into her infatuation, oh lord.

I wanted to throw up, she was enough of a push over let alone him feeding into her obvious feelings. I just knew he had an idea of her being in love with him, and he just seemed to enjoyed it.

What a man.

Quinn walked away, wheeling her flimsy body away, okay, she wasn't flimsy but, she was definitely something. With her always pedicured nails, her long dry blonde hair, her surgical nose and her big ass forehead, anyone who grew up in my household, would hate their older sister, the perfect daughter.

"Why do you look like that?" Elijah asks snapping me back into reality.

"I could just spit on her and watch her shrivel and die"I say squeezing the spoon in my palm.

Elijah let out a low chuckle while removing the spook from my hand. I look at him in confusion, why's he so nice all of a sudden?.

"Let's go"he says helping from the chair.

I fought the urge to pull my hand from his but I didn't, I wanted to see Quinn's face when we walked in there.
