The New Bridegroom

A new day at Friedrich's house began in a long-established order - with a family breakfast at a common table in the living room. But a knock on the door interrupted the peaceful meal. The cook, who also performed the duties of a governess in the house, went to see who had come there and returned with a large basket of beautiful and expensive roses. Approaching Mary, who was sitting at the table, she put them on the floor next to her.

“What is it?” The girl asked in bewilderment.

“The messenger boy said that this bouquet is for you,” the cook answered for some reason, embarrassed.

“And from whom, did he say?” Maria asked in confusion.

“The burgomaster sent this to you,” Friedrich answered confidently instead of the cook, taking another bite of pork sausage. “I told you, daughter, that our head of the city is not such a bad person and not all city gossip should be trusted!”
