"Lorry, Lorry..."
Please ask me, who is Lory? You must be curious, right? Ok, then I asked myself, Who is Lory? The answer is..., drum roll please... jeez, I don't know. I don't know who the hell is Lory. From the time we arrived at the hospital until now, Steven didn't stop mentioning that name. Lori! Who is she? Is she his girlfriend? Or maybe his ex? Wait, before we think so far about it, maybe I should check this fact first. Is Lory a woman's name? Or, maybe a man's name? I won't judge my boss if he has different tastes from the majority of the earth's population. Not everyone likes different gender, you know what I mean. Yes, maybe he is gay. Well, I don't know, I don't care. The point is, whatever his type is, I will never interfere with his private life.
"Lory...," Steven called that name again. His temperature is still very high. 40.3 degrees celsius, or maybe 104.5 Fahrenheit, and maybe that makes him delirious. I've heard a myth, that humans will hallucinate when their body temperature is very high. It is True or not? I don't know, but if you look at Steven's current condition, maybe the myth is true.
"Ring... ring... ring ..," my cell phone ringing and I quickly pick it up.
"Hello, Nia?"
"Hi! Hermione. Sorry, I didn't pick up your call, I was in the shower lately. So what's wrong? It's something important happened? You never call me this late."
"Um..., Nia, do you know Mr. Steven's family? Or someone that you can contact if something happens to him?"
There was a long pause before Nia replies to my words. What makes her doesn't answer my question directly? Option A, Maybe she is busy. She is in the middle of doing something important, option B, maybe the signal just so bad, by the way, it's very common in Indonesia, Or, option C, she doesn't know the answer to my question. And I'll bet, the answer is C. Nia doesn't know the answer to my question.
"Hey, what's wrong with Steven?" asked Nia trying to understand my question.
I know, I had promised to keep this a secret from all the office employees, but seeing how things got worse, I couldn't keep this a secret anymore.
"He is sick! His body temperature was very high. I guess, he has a fever. But the worse thing is... he fainted and is still unconscious until now. And, I can't go home because I was the one who brought him to the hospital."
"Oh My God!!" replied Nia a little surprised. "I see him earlier at the office, he seemed to be alright. Well, I mean he seems a little pale but he seems so healthy. How come all of a sudden?"
Should I tell Nia if I knew Steven has been sick since yesterday? I don't think so, I don't want to get off the topic too far. What I need is Steven's family number, that's all. "I don't know either, that's why I ask about his family's contact number. I hope, there's is somebody who can help him out."
"That's the problem, Sandra. As far as I know, Steven is an orphan, he has no family. No one."
I took a deep breath. I never expected this annoying human have a such miserable life. Or maybe sadness makes him cold and become an annoying person? I don't know. One thing that is on my mind... According to Nia's answer, it seems, I still have to trouble myself to take care of him until he perfectly heals.
"Ok, Nia I understand. Um..., Or maybe can I contact Ma'am Anna? If Steven is the apple of her eyes, she must be wanted to take care of all his needs, isn't she?" I asked Nia.
This is the thing that underlies me to ask Nia such a question. If it's true that Steven is her mistress, then Ma'am. Anna will come here and be ready to take care of him. My logic is very simple isn't it?
"Sandra, maybe you don't know yet, but... there is one sacred rule in Ruanna. Don't ever try to contact Ma'am Anna if it's not related to work! She's not a friendly type of person who is happy to listen to all the complaints of her employees."
"But..."
"No buts, Sandra. I know, Steven is her golden boy, but that doesn't mean she will take care of his health. Besides, if you disturb her time with her family, I guarantee, you will regret it later."
"Well...," I kinda feel disappointing.
"Excuse me, Mr. Steven's family?" says the voice of someone from behind the curtain.
"Um.., Nia, sorry I need to hang up! There are important things that need to be resolved," I said while disconnecting my phone with Nia.
From her voice, it seems that Nia still wants to ask me another question about Steven. She's the girl who likes gossip and I don't have a plan to talk to her too much. So, with the power of my thumb, I better disconnect the phone.
"San... Sandra... Wait... tut... tut... tut...," it seemed that was the voice that came from my cellphone.
"Excuse me, good night, Miss. The doctor wants to talk to you," said the nurse who called me out to see the doctor. I quickly cut through the curtains, left Steven, and headed out to see the doctor.
"Yes, doc," I said to the doctor who was already standing in the hallway, in front of Steven's place.
"Good evening, if you may know, I was talking to..."
"Sandra," I answered the doctor's question.
"Okay, Miss Sandra, are you a relative of a patient named Steven Joshua?" asks the Doctor, looking at Steven's medical record.
"No doc," I shaking my head dan answered it honestly, .
"Oh, then, what is your relationship with the patient? Are you his girlfriend?"
Oh, come on. What is that question for? Indeed, if I wasn't Steven's girlfriend, wouldn't the doctor need to explain Steven's condition to me? Don't I have the right to know what happened to him? I brought Steven here, and he has no family to call. Based on what I did to save his life, would it be unfair if I didn't have the right to know his condition?
"No, Doc," I reply confirming our status.
"Oh, all right then," said the Doctor with a smile to end our conversation. As expected, doctors never give outpatient data to a stranger. I know I'm a nobody, but I'm very tired of all this shitty unpredictable situation. And pretty soon, the nagging version of me is come to rise. So, Mr. doctors, please get ready!
"Doctor, please! I know, I am nobody. But he has no family to contact, nor do I know if he has a girlfriend or not. All I know is he needs help and that is why I brought him here. I don't understand the procedure in this hospital. However, I am the one who signed the treatment letter, the approval letter for taking blood for lab checks, as well as all administrative matters to start his treatment. Does the doctor think I don't have the right to know his condition? If that is, you should treat him by yourself, I'm sorry, I would like to go home, Bye, I'm out!" I said with a fast tempo as I walk out.
"Wait! Wait Miss Sandra!" the doctor said to prevent me from leaving. "Okay, okay, I'll explain his condition."
Ow, shit, Sandra, it works! Drop the mic please, this is so awesome. Thank you, thank you, I'm proud of myself.
"Hmm... How is he?" I asked curiously.
"The results of his blood test have come out of the laboratory. Mr. Steven's white blood cells number are quite high, our initial suspicion is that he has a bacterial infection. We still have to take his blood sample dan do a blood culture. We need to find out what kind of bacteria is causing the disease. I suggest Mr. Steven be hospitalized for several days because we need to control his condition for the next few days."
"Okay," I agree.
"Then, please take care of the administration, and we will immediately find a ward room for Mr. Steven."
"Fine," I said weakly.
Hospital, oh hospital, why every hospital it's the same. The administration procedure is number one, patient safety is number... I don't know. Maybe I'm the one who thinks negatively about this system? How could they ask us to finish the paperwork before they even had a chance to treat patients? Leaving the patient to suffer before the payment business is completed. I don't know why this stupid system bothers me so much, but maybe I should think from the hospital's standpoint. They can't cover all the patient's medical expenses, and that's natural, no business wants to go bankrupt. However, from a humanity perspective, this system is suck. But, I don't know… maybe I shouldn't comment on something that's not my field.
I immediately walked to the administration desk, took care of all the payments. I even spent almost half of my savings just to put in a deposit so Steven can be treated tonight. Don't think I'm generous! I'll make sure, Steven will reimburse all the maintenance money I spent tonight. But, that is if he recovers, if he moves to one-meter times two-meter complex? Oh, no, please no, go away bad negative thoughts, shooo…shooo… go away! Come on, Steven you have to wake up, you have to live well and pay my money back, ok?
After I completed all administrative matters, the nurse immediately moved Steven to his room. I booked him a VIP one because a man like him seems to get into trouble if they're in a room for 2 or 4 people. I don't want to see fights between hospital patients. This building needs quieter. So, I think, I'd rather pay dearly than end up being sued in court.
To be honest, it's not the nicest room, but it's the best room I could book with my salary, not too big. Well I know, Sandra is not a philanthropist, not a good person, and not a true warrior of humanity. However, when I can help my annoying boss, at least I feel useful in this cruel world. At least, I can do the little thing I can do for a devil like him.
"All finished. So when you need something, please call the nurse room," said the nurse after checking Steven's condition.
I went inside, to see his condition one more time. Today I will be relieved to leave him alone. I believe, Steven is in the right place at the right time. I don't need to worry about his condition again. I look at his infused bottle, the medicine that had begun to flow in his blood. I hope he's okay, he owes me an explanation, so he can't die so soon.
"I'm going home first, sir. You have to get well soon! Remember, you still owe me an explanation. I need to know, why did you take my design without any permission!" I said goodbye.
I turned around, ready to leave Steven behind. I grabbed his car keys and to be honest, my heart was tempted to use his cool car and go back to my boarding house. However, I immediately gave up that crazy idea. I don't want to spread new gossip, about Sandra the ordinary employee who suddenly goes home with her boss's cool car. And if the gossip got out, they would have thought that my real job was to flirt with my boss. That's so gross.
"Lory...!" Steven said that name again. He was sweating profusely, and he didn't stop calling the name.
I ready to walk out of the room to let him rest alone.
"Lory, please, don't leave me!" Suddenly Steven's hand grabbed my hand and held it tightly. Prevents me from leaving.
"Sorry, sir, but I'm not Lory," I said while trying to escape his grab. I pulls my hand and tried to release his grip. However, no matter how much I tried, it still ended in vain. I don't know what's in Steven's subconscious. But it seemed that somebody named Lory was a very special person to him. How could I not conclude like that? If the grip of his hand is so persistently hard pull my arm. As if his hand was pulling someone named Lory, so she would never leave him alone.
