"Ring... Ring... Hello?"
"Hello, Hemione! Where have you been? It's been a week and still not coming to the office?"
"Hahaha. you know it, aren't you? Psst... I still have to babysit that big baby."
"Oh, didn't he just leave the hospital yesterday?"
"It's been 2 days since he was discharged, but yeah, I still have to help him at his house. You know what kind of man he is, right?"
"Ha ha ha..., I understand, I understand. When big baby aka my husband gets the flu, he acts so weakly like he gonna die. Well, if I have a cold, I can still cook, do laundry, and iron. I understand. But at least your activities are still more fun than here at the office. While Steven was in the hospital, Madam Devil immediately stepped in at the office and you would understand… what kind of vibe she had."
"Hahaha but..., I don't want to say it's fun here either. Steven isn't much different from Madam Devil. They're like... yes, you know it yourself."
"Yes, Hermione. They are already like Mama and the devil child. Be patient, Hemione! Please take care of Mr. Boss, he has no one else to take care of him."
"Yes, his fate so languishes. But... actually, this is not my job desk. I applied to Ruanna to be an architect, not a nurse."
"Or, you just try to apply to be Steven's girlfriend. So, keeping him healthy is your job desk too, hahaha..." said Nia joking around.
"Knocking on wood. Don't be...!"
"Hahaha, don't be like that, Hermione! I know, he's an annoying cold guy, but, he seems to be tame when he's with you. Eh, wait... I need to hang up the phone, Madam Devil came! I can get a warning letter if I gossip for a long time. Um…, one more thing, I've emailed the data you requested, please check it!"
"Ok, Nia! Thanks, I'll check the email later. CU next time," I answered as I hung up the phone.
"Tame? That's joking right?" I groaned in my heart. If only Nia knew how hard it was to work with Steven this week. He doesn't talk much, and once he opens his mouth, he just pisses me off. And today is the day we agreed. Steven will be looking at my designs, and to be honest, right now I'm a little nervous. What if he's in a bad mood today? I took a deep breath and walk slowly into his private room.
"Oh, I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah, I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me"
Wait, did I hear it right? I was standing in front of his study door and I could hardly believe the song he was playing this afternoon. Is it a good time, if I go inside now? Can you imagine? When I suddenly walked in, while he was listening to a cheerful song? Well, I don't want to go in and find my famously cool coldhearted boss dancing to a Whitney Houston song.
Well, that doesn't mean I don't want to see it anyway. I'm even happier to record it and share it with the entire office. But I learned from the fried rice case, and now I'm the one who needs more patience in dealing with Steven. FYI, I don't want that question asked a second time.
"Oh, so, just now you were trying to tease me the fried rice, the food I can't eat, then, now you want to ask me some advice?
The questions along with the gecko chirps that I can't forget. And the fact, that Steven replies to my prank with such good advice puts me to shame, and it's not a pleasant feeling.
Ok, it's my day to show off and I have to be brave. Maybe the song Steven was playing was a sign that he was in a better mood. Hopefully, fingered cross.
"Knock..., knock...!" I knocked and opened Steven's office door while bringing all the design drawings that had been printed onto an A3 sheet.
"Good day sir!" I greeted as I entered the room.
"Enter!" he said as he turned down the volume from his Bluetooth speaker.
"I want to discuss the results of the showroom design that I have designed, sir."
"Bring it here!" he said as he motioned me to sit on the chair in front of him.
I immediately brought all my documents and immediately faced him. You might think, Sandra will be safe, she is as clever as Hermione Granger. But the truth is... it is not easy like that. I am very scared! What if Steven doesn't like it? What if Steven told me to redo the design again? Now there are only three days left! And for God's sake, if Steven told me to redo the design, then I definitely won't be sleeping for the next 3 days. But, what I'm really afraid of is, what if he fires me for judging my design so badly? No, no, noooooo...
Steven immediately took my designs and checked my drawings one by one. He seems so serious and careful. He spends a lot of time just looking at a picture.
"Move the counter to the middle! And try to make the waiting area wider. You can also add a counter for coffee and snacks, even a refrigerator for cold drinks, or whatever as a service compliment while people are waiting for the process at the workshop," said Steven commenting on my picture.
"Okay, sir." Yes, only minor problems that I can solve less in 30 minutes.
"You must be very happy?" said Steven looking at me with a straight face.
"Of course, it doesn't take much to change," I said proudly.
"Don't be too proud so easily!" said Steven in his annoying tone again. I'm used to hearing that tune, and it certainly won't end well.
"Your site plan is terrible, you don't decorate the green area of this building!" said Steven.
"But, sir...!" Actually, I want to say, that I did not study landscape architecture. After all, this is a business building that doesn't care about the beauty of the garden. Oops, sorry, what I want to explain is…, this building is not a public building like a café or a mall where everyone can come to visit. Of course, this is a public building, but those who come are limited people, um…, I mean, of course, those who intend to buy a car, not bubble tea.
Maybe you guys will think I differentiate class. However, buildings do differentiate classes according to their target market. Plaza Indonesia Mall will be different from Blok M Plaza, which of course will also be different from Mangga Dua Mall. The point is not classy or not, but more adapted to their market concept. Yes, the concept, it all depends on the concept. Maybe someone knows the difference between a riverside flat and a riverside apartment? Even their function is the same.
"I want you to design a garden in front of the building. Give it a hallmark or a statue, whatever the building marker that iconic and monumental. That can make your building recognizable from a distance and of course matching with your showroom design."
Honestly, I didn't think that architects had to design building markers too. But? Can I? I'm not a sculptor like Nyoman Nuarta with his iconic sculptures. Uh, wait, can I ask Mr. X? Isn't he busy and willing to help me? But, do I have to pay him just for some advice huh? Huh, it must be expensive.
"Don't think too complicated!" continued Steven.
"Fine, sir, I'll try," I replied.
"Yes, the shape and looks are ok, the plan is also nice. Well, it's not bad for a fresh graduate newbie."
Well, the words 'pretty good for a fresh graduate newbie' seem to be stuck in my memory for the rest of my life. For someone like Steven that is a nice compliment. Although I expected more. If the compliment was said by Madam Devil. I would be very, very proud.
"In these 3 days, you can ask a drafter to make a 3-dimensional image of the exterior and interior with many angles. Add it for presentation purposes. Have you made a 3-dimensional shape on the computer?"
"Yes sir!"
"Ok, then ask them to add furniture, render it, and don't forget to make a presentation file"
"All right. Um... one more, sir?" Actually, I'm a little hesitant to ask this question, but I'll give it a try. I just don't want to regret not showing the design I am proud of, that's all.
"What?"
"Would you like to see my other alternative design? Um... it's not important but.. for your information, I also made an alternative design for this project."
"Didn't I tell you to concentrate on just one design?" said Steven.
"Yes sir. I understand." I don't blame Steven if he refuses to see my designs. Until finally, he uttered such shocking words.
"Okay, show it to me!" said Steven, holding out his hand.
I immediately went out and grabbed a pile of documents that I had put on the front desk. I don't know what went through my head when I made this design. I know what I'm doing will be useless. However, I can't get it out of my mind. I think this is a brilliant idea and I have to make it. That's all, and asking Steven's opinion is not because I want to show off, but I just want to hear his opinion as a senior architect.
"Here it is, sir ..," I said, handing my drawing.
Steven looked at me sharply, he seemed a little lazy to look at it. I don't blame him, indeed an alternative design that would be treated like a stepchild who would be expelled only in the event of an unforeseen event. Usually, the fate of alternative designs is quite dire and will not come out of the closet.
"Sandra, it's 3 story building!" Steven protested.
"Yes sir. My idea is... we need to bring a more pleasant experience into the Showroom. So I made..."
"I understand your mindset," Steven cut me off. "This was fun, really fun. I would love to visit a showroom with a concept like this, but unfortunately, it's not what our clients request. But maybe we can try to talk to the client."
I did not think about what I just heard. Steven will try to talk to the client about this concept? Yeeee.....
"But...!" Steven said immediately stopping my excitement before the letters ssss came to complete my word. "But don't hope too much! As you know, Ma'am Anna never comes up with an alternative design. But, for your hard work, since you've also made other alternative designs, there's nothing wrong with making a presentation file for it.
From Yeeesssss to Yaaayyyyyy... Steven is right. Ma'am Anna never wanted to come up with an alternative design. But, according to Steven's request, I will still make the presentation file. Wait? Should I show Madam Devil my alternative design? Bruh, no, bad idea, Sandra! You could kill yourself if you did that.
