Gwen had to do it. It was the only way that she could stop the man from remembering that he had been bitten by a vampire.
She had compelled him. Being a hybrid came with the ability to compel humans to forget what had happened to them.
Bit only that she could also compel vampires and werewolves alike. Sometimes Gwen wished she didn't have all this amount of power stored in her.
If she couldn't use it to save half of the supernatural race then why bother. Moreover, she felt lonely most of the time, she had never come across any hybrid in the past twenty years of her life.
Was she the last one?
She looked into the living room from the kitchen where she was preparing the tea to give to the man.
He still had his head on the headrest of the sofa and this time around he was staring at the ceiling. Gwen couldn't resist looking at his body.
He had one of the most aesthetically pleasing body that she had ever seen. For a split moment, she thought what it would feel like to run her hands on those sod rock abs or on the nice outline of his chest.
Gwen didn't forget the fact that she had seen his nakedness and the thought of the size of what she had seen there. Whenever she remembered it her cheeks burned red.
When she was done with the tea she walked back to the living room and handed it over to the man.
He took the cup from her hands and muttered a thank you.
She sat down on the sofa close to him and watched him as he sipped the tea. The steam from the cup clouded his face a little.
"He set down the cup after a few sips and looked at her wearily. Gwen could tell that he was tired; compulsion on humans usually weakened them easily.
"My name is Bruce, what's yours?"
Gwen hesitated before telling him. Her own name.
"I'm Gwen" she replied.
"I don't know the circumstances that we met so I wouldn't know if saying that I'm pleased to meet you would be correct."
Gwen smiled.
"Actually we found you in an alley. Your head was banged pretty bad and you were unconscious so I offered to bring you home."
Instinctively Bruce's hand s went to his head and he started touching it to see if he could feel any injuries.
When he didn't find any he took his hands away from his head with a frown.
"Actually your injuries were more internal than external so I doubt you would see any surface injuries."
Bruce nodded his head showing that he understood.
"Thanks for bringing me over here. Don't you feel a hit uncomfortable bringing a total and complete stranger that you had found unconscious in the alley?"
"Trust me I can take care of my self," Gwen said showing off her biceps in a mock show of strength.
Bruce laughed and it was one of the most pleasant sounds she had heard in a while. It was deep with a little bit of rich undertone.
Amanda felt another smile creep to her face.
"I bet you those little muscles you just showed me wouldn't be enough to stop someone who genuinely wanted to take you apart" he smiled at her his face lighting up his features.
The irony was that Bruce didn't know how strong she was. She could easily rip him apart with her bare hands as easily as it took to rip apart a rag doll.
Normally she would never have felt comfortable with someone she didn't know or wasn't close with staying in her house but there was something about Bruce that made her feel at ease around him.
"You live alone?" Bruce asked knowing that the sooner that word had come out from his mouth they sounded very stupid.
Of course, she lived alone. There was no other evidence that would suggest she lived with someone else.
Dang, she was beautiful. He felt her brown eyes bore a hole straight into his mind as though she could see even his darker secrets and he felt uncomfortable.
That was a new sensation cause a woman had never made him feel uncomfortable before.
"Yes I live alone, what would make you think otherwise," she chuckled.
He liked her laughter. It sounded...innocent.
"Sorry, that question was very stupid of me."
"It's alright, men have the tendency to ask stupid questions now and then."
Bruce's eyes suddenly lit up in mock anger.
"Hey who said so, women too and behave stupidly every now and then."
Gwen liked him, she didn't know why but she just liked him. Not a sudden feeling of love or anything. She just felt that he was good company.
"What do you do for a living?" He suddenly asked out of the blues and the question caught her off guard.
How would she be able to tell him that she worked in a paranormal company and that a hybrid which was her had saved his life from a werewolf bite.
She was relieved by the fact that he was a stranger and she didn't have any obligation to tell him the truth.
"I'm a teacher" she lied doing her best to keep a straight face and not laugh her head off.
Gwen had never even imagined herself being a teacher.
"Really, you dont look like a teacher. Or rather would I say that you don't have the aura of a teacher."
Gwen arched an eyebrow, a smile on her face.
"Really so what Aura do I radiate, Mr. Bruce."
Gwen saw that his eyes glazed over for a second before he snapped back into reality.
"My head just went in places that it shouldn't have gone to right now" he chuckled.
As soon as she had called out his name like that Bruce had felt something like electricity go through him. He suddenly had an image of Gwen naked, writhing under him with pleasure and calling his name repeatedly.
Damn it was too real that he almost felt sensation physically.
"I'm a school teacher whether you believe it or not and please get your head out of the gutters Mr Tony," Gwen said doing her best not to look at him as a blush crept up her cheeks.
What had he been thinking of? Did he have the same thoughts as her?
"What about you? What do you do."
He hesitated about telling her that he was the CEO of a wine company because he felt that she could be one of the many women who had been after him for his money.
But something felt different about Gwen. He knew deep down that she wouldn't care about his money if he told her the truth but on another hand, he was scared that she may fail the test.
In the end, he decided to go along with his gut.
"I'm the owner of a wine company and before you say anything I inherited from my uncle its been a family business for quite some time now.
Her eyes didn't light up when he said that and Bruce suddenly felt happy that she had passed. For some strange reason, he felt instantly relieved and pleased beyond measure.
Her eyes just simply remained indifferent to what he had just said.
"Good for you," she nodded. My parents died when I was young so nothing to inherit from them" she smiled sadly.
He felt crushed. He hadn't sensed it at first but there was sadness in her eyes. It wasn't easily visible but if one came closer the expression was evident in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know."
She waved her arm as though telling him goodbye.
"It's okay, there is no way that you would have known."
Gwen wondered what would happen if she suddenly told him that her parents had been killed by vampires who wanted her blood and still want her blood.
Exhaling, she stood up from the sofa. "Are you hungry?"
Bruce was taken aback by her words. Was she about to give him a meal in her house? It was very unusual because she barely even knew who he was but then here she was trying to do all she could to make him feel comfortable.
He stared at her in stunned silence for some seconds.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you taking care of me like I am your long lost relative?"
Gwen didn't say anything, even though she knew the answer to that question.
Bruce was a humble man. She could tell. Even better he was a good man and he had almost been killed. Gwen couldn't explain it but she felt obligated because she hadn't been there to stop his attackers on time.
If the scouts had called in late or hadn't arrived at the scene where that incident had happened, then he would have died.
"Nothing." Gwen shrugged. "I just felt like helping you out. You survived whatever it was that happened to you in the alley and I figured that you would be hungry."
Still, Gwen could see confusion swirling in his eyes. But then, he shrugged and smiled.
"Alright, if that's what you want."
Gwen realized with alarm that that was indeed what she wanted. Making her way to the kitchen, she was surprised to find out that her hands were shaking as she opened the fridge to take out a freezer meatball.
What was happening? Why was she feeling this way towards a stranger, someone she had just met, someone she had just saved.
Was it possible that she liked him? This man whom she had hardly met but captivated her in many ways than one. There was something different about him; Gwen could tell.
Or was it the werewolf part of her taking over? Sometimes, werewolves unlike vampires were able to discern their mates when they came in contact with one.
But that couldn't be possible. He wasn't a werewolf. He was human, yet he had survived a bite that no ordinary human could have survived.
She defrosted the meatball and put it in the microwave to heat up. While it spun in the machine, she tried to gather her thoughts.
Something was off. It was nagging in her mind like a pesky fly, yet she couldn't put her hands on it.
The microwave gave a small beep and she took out the steaming meatball that was on a plastic plate and headed to the living room.
Bruce felt strange. He felt different. There was something his brain was desperately trying to remember but no matter how hard he tried the memory was simply evading him.
What was it...what was it?
It was there, just within reach of his subconscious and all he had to do was remember but even the act of remembering proved difficult.
Gwen stepped into the room and handed him his meal. He thanked her and started to eat it at once. He also realized then that she was correct. He was ravenously hungry and the meatball seemed ravenously delicious.
He was aware that she watched him.
"I'm still yet to find out where my clothes walked off to unless you want to keep me in this material for...how long? Tell me, is there a part of my body that you wish to see?"
Bruce saw Gwen go red in the face instantly.
"Bad table manners, Tony." She admonished jokingly.
"Why bother shortening my name?" He asked.
"I don't know. Tony just seems way cuter than Bruce."
He stared at her and she stared at him, their eyes locking in one long embrace that seemed to go on forever. His blue eyes captivated her brown eyes until Gwen broke eye contact.
She had made up her mind. There was only one thing that she could do.
If this continued between herself and Bruce, she was sure without a doubt that she was going to slowly fall deeply in love with him.
She needed to do it and do it quickly before her mind talked her out of it.
