"Sorry for keeping you waiting. What would you like to have?"
The door to the office had opened first before the voice came from behind Drake. Drake turned to see the nurse, who was housing the usual smile which he yet found pretty creepy. He feigned his back and stuttered,
"Nothing... anything."
Yea. He was starving. He couldn't believe that he could be. After all, twas meant to be a game. Or probably there are still a million things he was yet to discover. And that was one of the reasons why he had decided to come talk to the nurse.
She edged towards a fancy cooler and brought out a wrap burger. Then turned to a refrigerator close to the cooler and grabbed a bottle of soda. She returned to him and handed both to him.
"I'd had love us to grab lunch at the hospital Cafeteria but I'm quite caught up with several medical duties."
She explained, walking to her seat and settled down.
"How did you find me? I mean, my office?!"
He stuttered,
"J-just... remember you gave me some number. 325.... happens that it's the tag on the door of your office."
She chuckled,
"That's quite smart of you to had figured that out so quickly."
He only nodded, feigning a smile. She waved him to eat,
"Come on eat. It'll get cold."
"Oh, yes."
He took a bite and started munching hungrily. He was using it as a stimulation to regulate his thoughts. He was yet to figure out how to start asking the nurse questions regarding what Jane had told him.
If Jane was right, then twould be quite easy for him to get a grip of what the PERFECT LIFE PROJECT was all about. To top the fact, he wouldn't have to worry about that restless Corso anymore.
"Go easy on it. You can take your time."
She called his attention to how greedily he was eating, though he'd been enveloped by his subconsciousness.
"Oh... right. Haven't had anything since I woke up."
WOKE UP? DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE. He argued with his thoughts. But she didn't seem to care.
"Reasonable. So, what do you want to see me for -- oh, sorry. Finish eating first before --"
He cut in,
"No, it's fine."
He had a mouthful but swallowed quickly and flushed down with a gulp of the soda. It tasted strangely sweet.
"It's quite a huge hospital. And a nice work. You know, getting to help the people. But if you don't mind, why did you choose this of all things you can do in this video game..."
He tried to choose his words carefully as he continued,
"I mean... don't mistake me. It's a great job. But you'll be the first person I'd see doing a meaningful thing here. Those I've been seeing are either revenge seeking freaks who took the form of a ugly Cane Corso or a random maniac, seeking sex on the highway. Or a sane person who chose to be a football. Isn't that dumb... I mean --"
He obviously wasn't sure of how to end the sentence and he didn't try to. The nurse leaned back into the chair,
"What's your name?"
"Drake -- sorry, I mean Dreya."
OH SHIT. He cussed. NOT AGAIN.
"Which do you prefer?"
She had a curious stare. Drake snapped,
"Dreya."
"Oh, okay. Calm down."
He felt embarrassed but there was little he could do. He had been pretty impatient lately. And to crown it all, he couldn't owe the impatience to anything reasonable.
The nurse nudge him out his thoughts.
"You see, Drake. I don't know why I take this fancy in you ever since I saw you. Maybe because I've always been attracted to younger men but ended up with an old man. One of the members of the elites."
Drake's eyes widened at the manner at which the nurse gave herself out. He couldn't probably believe himself as he stuttered,
"Wait... w-wait... what?! You mean you're really the wife of one of the men who initiated all this whole two world thing?"
She nodded softly and continued explaining without his permission,
"You must think I'm drunk to be telling you that."
She chuckled.
"You see, few decades ago before the PERFECT LIFE PROJECT started, I was a college student from a wealthy family. My father thought of creating an online video platform, a duplicate of YouTube but he needed the support of the higher ups. They did agree to help him on a condition... I was to be married to a middle aged man. An elite, who's now part of the ULTINUM TRIO."
She wanted to drink from the cup of tea before her. But she felt it and complained,
"This is cold already."
She wanted to stand up but he offered,
"Bring it. I'll help you."
He collected it, poured the tea into a small washbasin (the office was somewhat like a mini house which had almost everything). He refilled it from the tea and coffee dispenser and walked back to her. He handed it to her,
"Here."
"Thank you."
She touched the back of his hand with her smooth palm, making a delay before she slipped her palm off. He gulped quickly, taking a glance at her. He discarded the awkwardness then sat back down. She took a sip then continued,
"So, I became a permanent housewife and sex slave. Did almost all sort of things. BDSM etc. But I got to have everything I wanted. By and by, I had two sons. And before I could know, I was no longer that naive college girl but a mother of two. Time waits for no one right? "
She paused again, a pressured smile on her young and attractive face,
"But then, everything changed when the project was introduced and here we are. At first he didn't want me to participate in the game but I refused and went all moody throughout months. And when he finally allowed me, I chose to do all that the unfortunate marriage prevented. Took a younger form and became a nurse like I wanted to."
Drake took a deep sigh.
"I look hot right, don't I?"
She stood up suddenly, turning around for him as she giggled. His heart flushed as he nodded, chuckling. After she'd sat back down, he came on,
"I'm so sorry to hear that. Everyone has a ugly story, but some are just uglier. And I'm sorry that you had to go through all that."
She smiled at him. Suddenly he went all serious,
"Sorry to sound this way. But why did you tell me all that? Shouldn't it be a top secret to you and your husband? What if he figures out, wouldn't he have you --"
"I guess I'm just bored out of my mind. Or perhaps because you're just too cute to be ignored."
She winked, he laughed, looking away.
"But then --"
He couldn't continue. A knock had come at the door of her office.
"One moment, please."
She pleaded and he nodded. To the door,
"Come in."
The fancy doorknob turned in and the door opened.
"Hello Miss, I'm the new recruit..."
The feminine voice came as the door opened. Drake turned to see who the new recruit was and his jaw dropped, eyes about to pop out of his sockets because of how surprised he was,
"You!!!"
He sprung to his, pointing at the NEW RECRUIT. Guess who twas. Chloe.
