Chapter 08

Couldn't stand the constant feeling of guilt, Calvino immediately grabbed the car key. He left the apartment and slammed the door behind him.

This sudden change in Calvino's attitude has made Calista ambushed by thousands of questions, but she didn't care.

'Ah, it must be office matters.' Calista mumbled. At the same time, she resumed her conversation with her beloved boyfriend through a video call.

"Honey, what was that sound?" Leonard asked over the phone.

"It's okay. It's Calvin."

Leonard frowned. "So, Calvino is in Indonesia?"

"Yeah, but he just came out. Maybe he's having a meeting with his friends. Never mind, don't talk about Calvin. We'd better talk about... us." Calista replied.

"Talking about our future makes me impatient to guide down the altar of marriage, baby."

Calista smiled while locking her lips tightly.

"Uh, baby... I can't wait to see you in my arms every time I open and close my eyes."

"Then, take me to…" Calista paused. Finding her lips almost slipping out had made her cover her own lips with her palm.

"Oh yeah honey, how about we hang up the phone first?"

Leonard squinted his one eye as if to say, 'why baby?'

"Um, I have to call, Kia."

"Oh, okay. Bye baby." And at the same time, he immediately hung up the phone.

Without Leonard knowing, Calista didn't call Kiara, but Calvino was the one she called. Her heart suddenly worried, thinking about her brother.

"Ugh, Calvin is really annoying. Why on earth he didn't pick up my call?." Calista was upset.

Without Calista knowing, her brother was frustrated by driving a high-speed car.

"Arrgghh," Calvino shouted as he hit his hand on the steering wheel.

'This is not fair. This is really unfair.' Calvino sighed tiredly when he faced the reality of his past memories.

So far, he's been struggling to bury those memories. But now, those memories came back through a woman named Kiara Larasati.

That frustration was what Calvino felt for hours on the streets without direction and purpose. He no longer cared if everyone might think that Kafeel's son had gone mad.

Yes, Calvino Luz Kafeel has gone mad. He sank into the crush of prolonged guilt.

After getting tired of circling the streets, he then pulled away from his car. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Not being able to hold back the guilt that increasingly sinks him into tightness has made  Calvino lose his mind.

Even though fresh blood had seeped through between his fingers he still didn't care. Both hands were still wiping tightly. Drop by the drop of blood-soaked the car's steering wheel. For him, this was the best way to get rid of the guilt he had all this time.

"Why did you come back through Kiara, Samara? Why? Did you come to punish me?" He talked to himself.

He then rubbed his palm, which was covered in fresh blood, and at the same time, he started the car again at high speed.

Not long after, he found a cafe on the side of the road. He immediately directed the car there. However, his intention was suspended when his gaze accidentally locked onto his palm, still bleeding fresh blood.

Not wanting to scare anyone by running wildly, he then directed the car back to the apartment.

No doubt, this pathetic condition has provoked his twin sister's attention to raise various questions. However, no answer slipped from his firm lips except to shower his sister with sarcastic questions combined with a sharp glare at the two glasses lying on the table.

"So your boyfriend just visited, huh?"

Calista didn't answer. She remained silent by closing her lips tightly. Being treated to his sister's silence provoked Calvino's emotions so that his gaze sharpens even more as he got closer.

"Don't damage your reputation, self-respect, and family honor with your completely immoral behavior, Earl!"

"Watch your words, Calvin! You'd better find the truth before making accusations!"

Calvino's eyes locked on the two glasses lying on the table.

"The evidence speaks." Calista followed the direction of her brother's gaze.

Exhalation of tired breath accompanied the roar of his breath. At the same time, Calista rubbed her brother's strong arm with tenderness.

"Listen, Calvin. It's not Leo who just visited but Kia."

Hearing Kiara's name filled his ears and made Calvino's gaze squirm with discomfort. His gaze looked around, trying to find the woman's whereabouts.

"Who are you looking for?" Calista asked, combined with a sharp look.

"Where is Kiara?"

"Why do you want to know her, huh?"

"Where is Kiara? Tell me!" Calvino snarled.

"Answer first for what purpose you are looking for her, huh?" Calista snapped.

"I don't like you doing weird things and I really don't like it when you act too outrageously to cause harm to Kiara."

Calvino rubbed his face roughly. "Arrgghh, you're always convoluted, Earl." At the same time, he walked into the room by slamming the door behind him.

No doubt, Calista was stunned by the attitude of her brother. She didn't know what happened. Her brother's attitude has changed since he met Kenan.

'What actually happened? If it was just a company problem, Calvin couldn't be this messed up. And... His hands were bleeding too. He isn't usually like this. There must be a severe problem. But what?' Calista thought while massaging her temples.

Not getting an answer to her question, she walked closer to Calvino's room. Her hand reached out to knock gently on the door.

"What?" Calvino asked without wanting to get out of bed.

"Can I come in?"

"No."

"But, I miss you." She sulked.

Not having the heart to treat his beloved sister badly, he then got out of bed and then rushed to open the door.

"Come in!" Said Calvino.

Calista smiled, and at the same time, she threw a kiss on her twin brother's left cheek as a thank you.

Calista intertwined her fingers between her stout fingers leading Calvino to the living room.

"Sit down!" Calista asked. Calvino immediately sat on the empty space next to his beloved sister without any rebuttal.

"What are you going to do, Earl?"

Calista's gray silhouette looked up. "Of course treating your wound," Calista replied along with the movement of her fingers cleaning the remnants of dry blood and then treating the wound.

"I don't know what kind of thorny problem you're in. Just don't torture yourself like this. I don't like seeing it." Calista begged her brother.
